Hello!

Welcome to my pet and nature blog! In this blog I will mostly be posting pictures of my pet bugs or nature photography. I will also sometimes post pictures of my kitty, Luca!

My name is Firie or whatever you want to call me. She/Any pronouns. I am an entomologist with a specific focus on the study and control of cockroaches and bed bugs. I am also a hobbyist artist, and making art is my favorite way to pass the time. I share my home with my kitty, Luca, and dozens of pet tarantulas, millipedes, scorpions, centipedes, roaches, isopods, and more!

FAQ

What camera/lens do you use?

Mostly iphone pictures with its macro camera, but any super high definition pics and detailed macro pics are taken by a Sony Alpha 6700 camera.

Standard lens: Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS APS-C E-Mount Zoom Lens

Macro lens: Sony FE 90 mm F2.8 Macro G OSS

My wolf spider enjoying a roach I gave her. :)

I believe she is a giant wetlands wolf spider. Would love to have a Carolina wolf spider one day.

I think wolf spiders are slept upon as pets. They’re honestly really amazing to watch hunt and feed and they’re quite active. I used to have one that would see me from across the room and would run up to the highest point in her cage and wait for food. I find them quite charming.

This is Mimi II, the regal jumping spider!

I got her as a subadult over a year ago. She’s getting up in age now and she tends to move slower than she used to. Still, she’s quite strong and able to hunt. She always looks so proud when she’s caught her food. : D

I adore jumping spiders, they have so much character!

Asian Giant Hornet

One of the coolest bugs I've ever come across. I was hiking in the mountains of Japan when I heard a deep buzzing noise and saw it flying around a tree.

She was definitely the highlight of my trip and I am honored I got to meet her and sit next to her. She didn't seem to fear anything. She would look at me and then return to feeding on tree sap.

....And she was NOT sharing.

This is Critter!!

Critter is a Piceoflava centipede (Scolopendra subspinipes ‘piceoflava’)

I love him (or her, idk the sex), but I must admit I am always afraid of him developing mycosis, lol. Even so he changed my outlook with centipedes. I never really considered them before because people always told me that you never see them, and my other pet centipede is only seen maybe once a year. However, he is always out and about, waiting for his next meal. He has easily become one of my favorite bugs. I even used him as inspiration for a dragon on a virtual pet website.

Some beautiful periodical cicadas I saw a while back. I can’t wait for spring to come around so I can do more insect photography!!
