can't be specific without a location, but it looks to be an extremely well camouflaged antlion, completely harmless to you. very cool find 🫶

Crabro cribrarius, the slender bodied digger wasp.

members of their genus are also called shield-handed wasps because the males possess a shield-like expansion of the tibia on their front legs. These "shields" are apperently used during mating, where the male holds them in front of the females eyes, but it doesn't blind them, instead it filters the light in a way that the female recognises the male to be of the same species as itself.

A couple of shitty pix of butterflies i was able to take!

First we got this amazing coma butterfly, it was quite big as you can see!! their jagged wings are simply beautiful and im very happy with this photo.

Next i managed to find this mourning cloak!!! unfortunately it was hard for me to take a picture of it with its wings spread out and this is the only decent thing i ended up with..... :( Its truly one of my favorite butterflies, fan fact about them is that they have one of the longest adult lifespans for a butterfly - sometimes even around a year or so, theyre able to survive winters!

Near a bus stop i also spotted this pretty guy - a small tortoiseshell, you cant really see on my shitty camera, but they have pretty blue spots on the edges of their wings.

Last one is this pretty common forest butterfly - speckled wood, they vary in color but this one was monochromatic which i thought was pretty cool.we passed a lot that looked like him but this guy was all alone in a pretty shaded part of the forest(i guess it doesnt look like it in the photo but trust me!) chilling near some wild raspberries, from what i know theyre very territorial about their sunny spots so this was either a female or a loser male lol.

Micropterix aruncella, the white-barred-gold. It's part of the only extant lepidopteran lineage that still possesses mandibles instead of a proboscis, which is also why they can't feed on nectar, and instead eat pollen.

unfortunately, I didn't get a picture from the mandibles, it flew away when I tried x3
