THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME today Revy left her absolutely speechless, giving an adequate yet simple reply, that she was once again stunned in another stupefying spell, locked beneath her embrace. However, this time, the feeling was much different. There was a certain urgency in their intimacy, familial-like without stepping out of the boundaries that were already set in place. Remain professional, Ochako thought, using all her willpower to abstain from reciprocating with the same amount of emotional fervor as her mentor, hands hanging loose by her sides. It was almost like a scene out of a movie — the older woman being so touched by the younger girl`s honest sentiments under the guise of giving comfort. It was saccharine, sweetness that could make a jaded woman like Revy gag, yet she held her. Initiated their embrace, even. Her eyes fluttered close as she sighed a quiet breath of relief, relaxing within the steady rise &. fall of the woman`s chest. Cigarette smoke that clung on to her shirt mingled with the sweet scent of her cheap strawberry shampoo, &. for the first time since the start of her internship, she could finally relax. The familiarity was starting to feel like home.
Ochako was getting choked up all over again, but she stamped down those feeling when she concluded that Revy needed this tender moment more than she does right now.
“I always knew you were a gluten for sweets. But I`ll keep that a secret, just between you &. me, since that would go against your totally hardened reputation,” she gave a light-hearted reply, offering a smile to offset the somber mood. Hopefully, her casual tone will goad Revy to respond with her usual offbeat quips &. references Ochako could never hope to understand. As much as she enjoyed their closeness, more so if it involves a level of trust where Revy can be vulnerable for just a couple minutes, she would love it more if the woman she grew to adore returned to her normal brusque-self. Their time together was simply more fun that way.
“... You’re right--”... not quite. It’s not that Revy had a sweet tooth--she had a taste for good cigarettes, though, but strawberry mochi is close enough, right? It was over as soon as it had begun and she’d much rather have it this way, Ochako’s arms at her sides, her arms at her own sides. She hoped the gentle blush wasn’t so obvious and the beating of adrenaline wasn’t so loud--her hand went to the top of her head and she stood there, looking off to the side in a hopeless daze.
The trees’re so green here, huh. A change from Thailand’s tongue-and-cheek palm trees
And it seemed as though the sun setting was the ending to some sort of movie--a stupid B-list flick with a cheap end. It was annoying. Revy sighed and stared at big baby brown eyes and sighed once more. It was like watching a metamorphosis as blushing became blank and as soft blinking eyes became firm with thoughts about the future, wondering what to say next. “... Let’s go back, then. It’s almost curfew.”
She awkwardly directed to wherever the road was, looking off hurriedly, as though time would soon experience turbulence.
