Something stood out in this episode to me. Me and my sister theorized why this was Chrono’s dream instead of their future before it was made clear.

For one, Kazuma literally has shown zero desire to become an astronaut nor work with anything associated to it. He’s extremely intelligent and is fully capable of doing complex math, but he never mentioned that was his interested in the field. Second of all, Kazuma has NEVER worn a tie. Third, Kazuma has been smiling more in this single frame than he has throughout this entire season. Plus, this has nothing to do with Kazuma, but the spacecraft that has the vanguard logo was really ugly.

What does this all mean?

Chrono wanted somehow for Kazuma to be there with him. Even if it meant just putting him in a nice coat and smiling.

1) Teru teru bouzu are small traditional handmade dolls made of white paper or cloth that Japanese farmers began hanging outside of their window by a string.  They are supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day. Read more on Wikipedia.

2) Bouzu is also used as a term of endearment for addressing little boys. David literally says “the bouzu are making teru teru bouzu”.
