I've been seeing for an exagerrated amount of time where people claim this oil has magical properties and can potentially slow down and eventually prevent hairgrowth. I've been meaning to research about this for a good while and decided to post on here for anyone also curious!! Please read to the end before considering!! <3
First of all, cyperus oil (nut grass or purple nut sedge) comes from the tubers of the plant & the reasoning behind this oil working is it contains the y-curcumin compound that interferes with hair-growth enzymes, another benefit of being good for nourishing and repairing dry skin.
Therefore, you'd want to purchase a product with the highest plant concentration possible - yet majority of oils easily accesible (mostly for the UK, such as Amazon etc.) are blends of multiple plants and have a low percentage (not worth the money and less likely to work!!)
The study that started this trend was tested on mild to moderate unwanted axillary hair growth (armpits) with pure concentrated CR oil for at least 2 minutes per day, aswell as being used after hair removal from the root such as waxing/threading/epilating etc.
My own conclusions / pros and cons:
Results can vary greatly depending on concentration of oil, however too concentrated can irritate and burn (!!!)
All opinions i've gathered are done majority after IPL as a main form of hair reduction - therefore the hair would be lessening anyways
Some say the smell sticks and is super difficult to cover up
The way of removal affects hair-growing hormones, and can penetrate deeper than what you're aware of
No long-term results to know dangers etc.
To conclude, after searching about this for a while I will likely not be trying this until further research and proof has been done (on using it for this specific purpose) and rather stick to already well-tested forms of hair removal.
I reccomend also doing your own research if you still wish to try this, as many articles say it's totally safe.
Let me know if you have your own experiences. ♡
