summary: you get steve to try koshari for the first time
warnings: fluff, a little arabic, flirting, a tiny bit of idiot steve.
brooklyn was known to most as captain america's birthplace, the home of coney island, brooklyn bridge, prospect park and the best pizza in new york, but you just knew it as home.
your cafΓ© on 13th avenue was known to carry the spirit of hathor, the euphonious tunes of Um Kulthoum and Abdelhalim could be heard from mere meters away from eight a.m till twelve a.m.
so of course, it provoked captain america's curiosity to hear foreign yet beautiful sounds on a wednesday morning.
becoming one of your regular customers, steve's mind denied his heart to be attracted to your humor, your playfulness, your beauty, your hard-working nature and your egyptian accent that drives him crazy.
despite being there almost everyday, steve's regular orders were either coffee, tea or salad, now it was your time for you to be curious.
"hey captain, don't you wanna spice things up a bit? change the regular food and try something more ... exciting?" you winked at him, steve's brain went into a whirlwind and his throat went dry, good lord you were a sight for sore eyes.
"uh, whatever you want really." steve mentally face-palmed himself for the dry response, what the hell was wrong with him?
your brows furrowed together.
"well i'm down to try whatever you want me to." he corrected himself. you grinned like a cheshire cat and his heart melted.
"wait here." you speed ran to the kitchen while steve admired your voluminous curls bouncing from the enthusiasm. god, if only i weren't a coward." he thought to himself.
around a minute later, you came back with a hot dish which seemed to have alot of onions, rice, pasta and ... lentils?
"this is koshari!" you were grinning from ear to ear as you places the delicious looking plate infront of steve, "it's basically rice, pasta, hummus, brown lentils, crispy fried onions, garlic vinegar and zesty tomato sauce, literally my favourite."
"that seems like alot." steve chuckled.
"the hell it's not! it's the perfect amount, this is our super soldier serum." you pushed the plate closer to him.
"yalla dig in." your chin rested on your gold and henna decorated hands from the wedding you hand last week. you stared at steve and his plate despite it being rude in your culture and your mother had to pinch your thighs whenever you did it at family gatherings.
steve took a spoonful of the traditional dish and slowly directed it towards his swollen rosy lips, not breaking the connection between his atlantic blue eyes and your staring ones. you couldn't help but drool a little.
"good lord, that is so good." his eyes went wide with adoration and ecstasy, you couldn't help but squeal and jump around like a maniac.
"YES! I TOLD YOU YOU'D LOVE IT!! I AM AMAZING YES YES!!" a small yet loud zaghroota left your lips making every head in the place turn towards you two. steve's brows were scrunched.
"who got married?" your brother, omar, came out of the kitchen and made his way to you.
"i think your sister is nuts." steve chuckled, still fazed by your previous act.
"steve liked the koshari!" you gave a half-surpressed laugh.
"ya habla," your brother rolled his eyes at you then turned to steve, "sorry about her, she's a bit cuckoo, did you really like the koshari though?"
"It's wonderful, never had something like it before, though i must say, it is a bit spicy."
"steve, it's definitely not spicy, you're just an old white american man." you teased. one thing steve has always loved about you is your spontaneity, your ability to diffuse a simple sentence into a joke at any given moment, so he definitely let out a loud laugh at your comment despite your brother's attempts to elbow you in the ribs.
"eskoty." omar whisper-shouted.
"hey she's right, i am an old white american man, but that just means i need more training, right?" steve ended his sentence in a low and steady voice, his eyes piercing holes into your figure.
"right! that calls for the molokhiya!" you blurted out, "i promise you won't be leaving until your absolutely full, your 'super soldier metabolism' won't be able to burn this before a week." the soldier couldn't help but laugh.
