I find it endlessly fascinating that most humans just want someone who will get up in the middle of the night to close the windows with them when it starts down pouring. We want someone to dry our dishes after we wash them. We just want another person to do mundane activities with. We want to tell someone how the copy machine broke at work and we want to listen to how Debra is causing office drama again. We just want something so simple. We want human connection and honesty and to be bored with someone else instead of bored alone.

Anyone else think that Dimitri should have canonically carried a handkerchief in his pocket? Because:

1) He’s an old man at heart, with his love of John Wayne, Westerns and 80s music. You know who else likes John Wayne, Westerns and 80s music? My 63 year old father, who always has a handkerchief in his pocket.

2) As a guardian, it’s super practical to have a piece of cloth handy at all time. Got a gaping wound? Pack it with a handkerchief. Covered in blood, sweat and dirt after a fight? Wipe that shit away without having to ruin your shirt. Got a particularly mouthy hostage? Good thing you have a convenient gag in your pocket. Stake all covered in Strigoi blood because you just gave one an extra ventilation hole? Boom, clean that sucker off with a handy hanky.

3) There is no way that the chivalrous cowboy that is Dimitri Belikov wouldn’t carry a handkerchief with him for the soul purpose of offering it to others. As sure as I am that he would give up his seat to a pregnant woman, I know that that man would whip out a clean and pressed handkerchief the moment he saw someone in emotional distress. Not because he expects gratitude. But because that’s just who he is.

So anyway, I’m going to fix this major oversite in the canon by writing a fanfic in which Dimitri carries a handkerchief, because of course he should.
