Snap shots of daily life in Myanmar, otherwise known as Burma. Many thanks to those of you who followed my Yemen blog, but since I no longer live there I feel that I cannot blog about it honestly. Instead I'll focus on my new home - Myanmar.

I paid my rent on Sat - as is usual in #Myanmar, I had to pay in cash, 1 year upfront. For my cozy apartment in #Bahan #Yangon that meant 7 million, 200 thousand kyat. I'm lucky my landlord didn't raise the rent from last year.

On the way back to Burma overland. Dusk from the deck of the #NitaRaft hotel which floats on the river #Kwai in #Kachanaburi, Thailand. Private rooms with bath only $10. Its like living on a houseboat - the whole room rocks when there are waves. Apparently the #border is only a 2 hr minibus ride away. Just hope I can make it on to #Dawei, the nearest town in Myanmar. Transport operates rather differently than it does in Thailand and it's uncertain if buses in #Myanmar will run during #waterFestival.

Sometimes I dig out food from the #trash at school and bring it home to feed the pups. These guys live in the #monastery next to my apartment. Usually big male dogs chase the little fellows away so they can get all the food for themselves. But this friendly fellow looks after these two pups and is happy to share. Such a sweet chap he is! I often see the three of them curled up together. Mom usually sleeps on top of a table where she can't be bothered by her short, hungry children. Taken today in #Bahan township, #Yangon
