tried to watch project hail mary but all i could think was how once again a big budget hollywood movie that will no doubt be much more popular is trying to ape john crichton without understanding what gives him soul

only seen the first two eps of star city but lowkey laughing at how many margo/sergei fic tropes they used...but for anastasia and that other guy

#it is basically slop but watchable at least y'know #margo and sergei are the only people who make me stoop to watching things in that category i have standards normally #hope they're happy #(ok slop-but-watchable is 98% of all fic i've ever read but that's different...it's with love)#star city #for all mankind

#thank you to lola for sending me the quote <3 #this is excessive but what are we doing here if not being excessive abt some tv show lol #there is so so much to say abt this #obv severance isn't obviously horror but it is gothic which is...horror #or at least has a lot of the same anxieties/imagery #but the way the show uses the imagery of abjection is v v interesting bc it isn't played quite straight #it's lumon that has so many of the anxieties abt the body #and it's v telling that ideologically taboo moments often happen in the bathroom (physically taboo)#that lumon is obsessed w hygiene #(but that salt's neck is full of decay)#that gemma's body betraying her leads her to lumon #& that many of mark and helly's moments involve abject substances #hitting his head & spit & sex & nosebleed #severance #severanceedit #horror #markhelly

respect mark and helly so hard for straight up eating each other's faces, even briefly. no one can be john and aeryn on that front, but it's about putting in the effort

#severance #farscape #we need to have a discussion abt how little tv kissing is actually good #so often i'm like #well i enjoy the story so i'll pretend that was good #but in my heart i know they are not john and aeryn unfortunately #suspect 60% of the reason margo and sergei won me over despite the limited screentime #is that their one (1) kiss went sincerely unbelievably hard #counts for a lot!

miss my moonlighting era bad. a month of frenzied posting for like 5 mutuals on priv who did not know what i was talking about and i was having the time of my life. that's what finding out a famous show is actually good will do to you.
