hey everyone, its been a real long time. i hope you are in equally well health and spirits despite the mayhem that envelopes the world on a seemingly daily basis. i am very well, enjoying a quiet life surrounded by loving animal companions, delicious vegan food and listening to a lot of not-so-quiet metal. it is a privilege to have no personal complaints worth mentioning.

so George Zhen, who was basically the only member of this "band" constantly involved in it from beginning to end, found this song buried on a hard drive. it was supposed to have some piano on it and be released as a 7" or something at some point, but it just got lost in the digital shuffle after i decided to no longer play music under this moniker. here we are, 5/6 years later, and it has resurfaced. it is called "returning home," a continuation of a very early song called "leaving home," and it, oddly enough, acts as a pretty accurate bookend to this project.

i didn't know what to do with it until the awful events in Orlando on 12 June. I am from Florida, and while the state was never a place I could call home (I wrote about that often, including in this song) there are a lot of amazing people who do. violence against the queer/trans/etc. community is a reality we live with on a day to day basis, and scary situations like this are a reminder to the greater community at large that there is still a battle to be won... one side is asking for care and consideration as humans, and the other is massacring us. i feel for everyone affected by this tragedy, both the victims and their families, as well as the muslim community who is sure to get backlash and violence directed at them due to the actions of one awful individual.

this song is available as a free/PWYC download. Any money donated through bandcamp will be donated towards the GoFundMe page for the victims set up by Equality Florida.

hey toronto, i opened a vegan hot dog cart and our first time in the city is this sunday, followed by Monday the 14th. Come hang with us and let us serve your affordable and delicious street fare. We donate a portion of EVERY SALE to local animal shelters, and this includes being officially partnered up with the Lincoln County Humane Society. We are establishing the “Rescue Dogs Emergency Fund,” where all of our donations are allotted towards saving the most in need animals that face euthanasia unless they get immediate financial assistance.    We are so excited to announce that on Sunday, 29th November we will be taking over Bella Noella’s Pizzeria in downtown St. Catharines starting at 4pm and serving our ENTIRE MENU for the first time! it is a sneak preview dinner, and we couldn’t be more excited to share with you what we have been working on for a few years now.

We hope to see you at Bella’s on 29th November, and will have more information about who we are, what we are doing, and importantly where we will be as we prep for our grand opening in early 2016!

November Tour

we are heading out for a couple weeks to hit some new territory and hang in some familiar ones. this will probably be our 2015 touring swan song as we get ready to hunker down for the winter to finish writing this batch of new songs, open our business (more rad info on that soon, vegan food lovers of southern ontario!), and spend time with the animal companions.

I have been an amateur woodworker my whole life, always using carpentry as a means to channel negative feelings towards a positive outcome. I recently found myself in need of a new pedal board, a position a lot of us pedal addicts find ourselves in frequently. I built myself a new board, and at the same time built a couple others for a few friends who were in need as well. I did it to their specifications, figuring out what they needed for their rigs and it was a lovely time. They turned out great; solid and sturdy, beautiful, and very importantly they were incredibly cost effective. With this I got the idea to start cult boards, which serves a very specific purpose.

The music gear world is filled with abrasive white cis-men who condescend to any marginalized person if their knowledge of gear isn’t of the same ilk. I detest this. It makes it incredibly hard for persons of colour, women, trans-persons, queer people, and a plethora of others to learn about gear and feel comfortable going to a store and buying what is right for them, or going to meet some weird dude off craigslist who loves stained and digs **chix who play muzik.** Furthermore, a lot of gear that is worthwhile is priced so exceedingly high that it is financially out of reach, and the cheap alternatives need to be replaced so often that you end up spending more. Basically; music is a nightmare.

cult boards exists to offer custom, professional quality pedal boards on a sliding scale donations based system with a priority on marginalized persons. I am happy to build you the board you want at an affordable rate without all the weird hyper-masculinity and pretension. Need a tiny board to fit a tuner and your overdrive on so you don’t always have to set it up? No problem. Want it raised so you can mount a power strip or power supply under it? Sounds rad. Need a 3foot x 5foot monster so your queer as fuck psych prog outfit can jam? I am more than happy to help! I can make anything from the simplest of bare-bone structures to a board with built in inputs, top mounted handles and a tie up for your cables. The world is your oyster.

Pricing works as follows: You shoot me an e-mail and we discuss what you need. I let you know exactly what the shipping cost & material cost is (wood, fraction of a pack of screws, handles, etc.) and you paypal, money order, mail cash or write a cheque. Whatever works. I build the board and send it your way (builds can take as little as 1 day and as many as 6), and once you receive it you can send a suggested donation of $15-$80, depending on what you can afford and feel is reasonable. That is it! 

Why am I doing this other than the aforementioned bro-scape that is music? I love building as an outlet, it keeps me happy and helps my mental health stay in check. As well, I am an intersexed queer male who, despite a torrid time growing up, has all the privilege of being white skinned & being deemed “passable” by normal society ever since I had surgery. I have an ability to give back to a community that has given me a lot, and use the knowledge I have gained to hopefully help facilitate a less shitty environment in music.

Today Baltimore closed its schools down due, leaving the 84% of its students that rely on the free/reduced lunch program without food. If you have considered buying a shirt, cassette, digital download, patch, or anything from us, buy it today and we will donate all of the profits to the Maryland Food Bank. We will also match the total profits personally, and send those to the Legal fund for protesters. You can also just donate directly to the food bank / legal fund if you find that more up your alley.
