it takes him a second to realize who’s sat at his bar, and then he’s actually GRINNING, happy to notice it wasn’t another customer who was going to keep him there all night. “am i ? i think i’m just gonna leave you here… so…” he chuckles softly, setting bottle of water on the counter for her. “there was, almost thirty minutes ago. just forgot to lock the doors ‘cause i’m covering for a bartender tonight.” he notices, watching the last of his staff leave the building as he waves a goodnight to them. “just gotta finish a few things and we’re good. you have an alright day ? how are you feeling ? “
“could you really leave me, a helpless pregnant lady, all by her lonesome?” tabby pressed a hand to her chest, playfully milking her pregnancy. she knew he wouldn’t. she trusted him. “thanks,” she takes the water bottle with a smile. “ahhh, i see...everything all right? there’s wasn’t some big bartending brawl or anything?” tabatha’s brows furrowed with a bit of concern for a moment. “yea -- i got all the time in the world. don’t worry about me,” she fanned gio, telling him to take his time. “i did,” tabatha enthused, “i had a great day! i’m not allowed to do much because,” she pointed to her baby bump,” but i went to a couple meetings and some really cool collabs are in the works for the blog.”
THEY had only become freshly acquainted, but saoirse felt the obligation. knowing first hand the difficulties coming with a pregnancy. though that felt like eons ago. giving tabatha a small smile, “ how far along are you, again? “ inquiring with a mild subtle approach. still hesitant about the full details of the other’s predicament. “ you’re welcome, it was no big thing. thank the gods that we have a decent enough chinese take out around here. new york always had the best, i’ll tell you what. “
“nineteen weeks!” tabby exclaimed, still in a mixed up state of shock and paranoia. “every time i ask my doctor about it, she says i’m fine and everything’s going well. i guess this little one is just...angelic,” tabatha smiled down at her protruding belly, giving it a small rub. “ugh, sometimes i miss new york so much, but then I go out on my balcony and see trees and hear birds chirping...it feels like home, you know? the city’s such a rat race and here...it’s just...quiet. i don’t know. i love it,” tabby alughed at herself, taking another bite of food.
“Yeah, there is this little thing called Uber Eats.” He reminded her, making himself comfortable on the couch. “But your boy is broke, so I can definitely get the conveniences of making people bring you shit for free. So—” He leaned in now, chin resting on his hand. “Do you seriously get any weird cravings? Like, I dunno, pickles and mayonnaise or anything like that?
“You know I’m boycotting Uber after all their scandals. Does Uber Eats even come to Marble?” she questioned, constantly reminding herself of how small this town is in contrast to Harlem. “Oh, I’ll tip you. I promise,” Tabatha laughed softly, covering her mouth as she also chewed. “Dairy! And chicken,” she pouted, looking down at her plate. “This year was gonna be my second year being vegan, and now my body just needs cheese.” She sighs before changing the subject. “ I can smell everything now, and everything stinks,” Tabby grimaced, scrunching her nose up. “I went to the bathroom at Starbucks yesterday, and I was dry heaving the whole time,” she frowned, stuffing some fried rice into her mouth.
it had been a LONG night for giovanni. he was down a bartender, so that meant he was filling in. it was getting late – in fact, that were OFFICIALLY closed about fifteen minutes ago, but a few stragglers left giovanni opened even later than planning, and that certainly didn’t stop one last person from walking in and settling at the bar, despite the usually lively bar scene being quiet. “you know bars having a closing time too, yeah ? “ he speaks with his back turned, a rag cleaning down the back on the bar before turning to face them. “however. i guess i can make an exception.”
“wha-- i had no idea,” tabatha slid onto the bar stool anyway, pressing her chin into her palms. a warm smile curved onto her face when he finally turned to face her. “you kinda have to for your favorite neighbor,” tabby sang with a shake of her locks. “also you’re my ride home, so i’m here as long as you are,” she reminded him before taking a look at his bar. “i haven’t been in a bar on purpose since...2013, but i distinctly remember there being a last call and then people having to leave,” she chuckled, turning back towards him.
“listen, i’m all about being positive and grateful for the little things, but i honestly can’t help but be a little suspicious about how well being pregnant is going? i feel like the swelling and the aches is going to spring up on me any day now,” tabatha shares with the other, a small laugh following her words. she took a chunk out of her sweet & sour chicken. “thanks for bringing me chinese takeout when i could’ve just ordered chinese takeout myself,” she nudges them with her arm.

tabatha was born in vancouver, british columbia, canada to a gambian mother and a swedish father. her parents were both college professors. her mother taught africana studies and her father was a law professor. she was an only child.
her family was very upper-middle class, but that label did not identify them. tabatha went to public schools even though her parents could certainly afford private. they were humble. they kept tabby grounded.
she didn’t grow up with many friends, just one or two very close ones. tabatha always had her nose stuck in a book -- either for fun or for studying purposes.
as she grew older she went to the occasional high school house party, but it just wasn’t her thing. she’d much rather cuddle with a book or watch a movie.
intimacy always made her nervous. it still does. she’s been insecure about her body, her freckles, and her wild ginger hair ever since someone told her that she was different. she’s much better about it now, but the fear of intimacy still haunts her.
she’d always had an interest in being creative and eating food, so going to cornell university for food science was an obvious choice for her.
at university, she fully realized her bisexuality through some physical exploration of both sexes. she’s only been in two relationships. a very short one in college with a man. and a very long one throughout most of her twenties with a woman.
during college, she experimented with her hair, makeup, food and even dabbled in witchcraft. she became a vegetarian then a vegan. she started doing yoga, meditating, and really coming into her own.
instead of following the strict food science path, tabatha decided to create her own lane by trying out new wellness life hacks and passing them on through social media. for the past eight years, this is how she’s been making a living -- posting youtube videos every week, working at sponsored wellness retreats, and spreading her knowledge on food, health, and wellness to the masses.
tabatha is still on the path onto becoming her best self, but when she looks in the mirror she sees someone she loves, someone she wants to take care of, someone who is happy and that’s enough for her.
tabatha moved to marble 1) because she loves the slow pace of a small town as compared to living in nyc, 2) it’s cheaper, 3) more nature
