Most polite catcall in recent memory

At least one young man in Ridgewood is really classing up his catcall game. Today I was walking & wearing hot pink tights when 4 guys in a red car started hollering: "Hoooo girl!" "Chyeah!" "Chyeah!" Dude #4 [super polite customer service voice]: "Hello miss. I like that pink you chose! It is very attractive." :::SUDDEN SILENCE FROM HIS HOMIES::: me: 😂

I passed by this intriguing box on Wythe Ave in Williamsburg today. It asked, "Girl or Boy?" and who could resist opening the lid to find out?! Not me. But it just got new windows so in like a month it will probably be yet another sleek black brick condo for fancy people. In September 2009 I rescued ~50 plants from the dumpster of a local hardware store. It was the "end of the planting season" & the owners said I could dumpster dive but that the stuff probably wouldn't grow next year. I don't have a yard so I repotted & gave most of the plants away, but saved some shrubs & ~10 rose plants for the 8x2' dirt strip in front of my house (formerly a gathering place for trash & dog poop). The next spring all the roses bloomed & the shrubs spread. It looked so nice that I thought my landlords might say, "Wow, we should give her a break on her rent for doing all that!" (It didn't happen, although my neighbors reported that the landlords were spotted looking upon the new garden, nodding in approval.) The garden continued in full swing until 3 years ago when the rose plants started to get STOLEN, one by one. I would wake up to see where another plant had been yanked out of the soil, with some of its tender little roots left behind. It was such a mystery, because if you wanted a rose plant for yourself, why wouldn't you dig it out in a manner that would preserve its root structure & health? If you wanted a rose flower, why not just snip one off like a normal flower thief? The mystery continued throughout the summer until I was down to just a couple of plants. My trusty neighbors, who are on their stoop anytime the temp surpasses 60* & who are gossips in all the most useful ways, caught the culprit in the act! It was 5 yo girl in pigtails who lived 2 houses down. She liked to "pick the flowers" & give them to her toddler brother. The real scandal to my neighbors was that "the mother seen her do it, too" & "she don't even say nothin". She's just letting her daughter grow up thinking that stealing neighbors' rosebushes is a cute and whimsical way to pick flowers, SHAME. But then that familia moved & so this last rose has survived the last 2 years. It never gets bigger or has more than 3 blooms, but it's resilient af & has Seen Things. Yesterday I noticed it was sporting a fresh bloom. LATE NOVEMBER! ROSES! 65*! I can't complain about New York this year, not at all. Thank you for reading the story of my rose plant's life.
