A lui seul, il contient environ 17% de l'eau douce de surface de la planète et est le plus ancien et le plus profond des lacs du continent africain. En bordure de 4 pays – le Burundi, la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC), la Tanzanie et la Zambie – il représente une source de revenus et d’approvisionnement en eau indispensable pour plus de 10 millions de personnes.

“Long Miles began as a blog when we moved to Burundi five years ago. It was a way for me to express all the things I found difficult and exciting about living in Burundi. In 2013 Ben and I decided that what we were doing to “help” coffee farmers really wasn’t helping farmers at all. That’s when Long Miles really began. We built a washing station in an effort to produce the best possible Burundi coffee and see smallholding coffee farmers living sustainable and hope filled lives. We began with 360 farming families. Here is the highly anticipated debut episode of This Burundian Life’s new #Webserie starring (and apparently also directed by) Karl-Chris Nsabiyumva  the episode is titled DO YOU and finds @Mr_Burundi sharing thoughtful thoughts on life and questioning what happiness really is “…For years I worked with people who wake up early and very few of them seem to be happy with their lives…” says Chris in this autobiographical documentary sound tracked to the music of DNCE’s summer smash CAKE BY THE OCEAN. The tone is light at times and serious at others but it’s definetely a middle finger to the conventional people and their advices and a very welcome rallying cry to “DO YOU”

Enfant métisse d'une mère rwandaise réfugiée au Burundi et d'un père français, le narrateur coule des jours heureux en Afrique… jusqu'à l'année de ses 11 ans quand le Burundi s'embrase et le Rwanda devient le théâtre d'un génocide qui va enflammer la région.

Entre récit d'initiation adolescente et chronique de la décolonisation, ce récit prend aux tripes et laisse un goût âcre dans la bouche.

Encore une fois, je réalise que le moment où l'on passe du bonheur au malheur peut être quasi-instantané.

Rare and precious find: a spirit-woman of Burundi, from Bujumbura on the northern shore of lake Tanganyika, 1929. Badly-informed book calls her by the colonial name of “witch doctor,” and i can’t find an authentic Kirundi name for a medicine woman. It would probably be in the Kintu (Bantu-speaking) spectrum of “nganga.” Looks like she’s wearing strands of cowries around her neck and hips, feathered headdress. So hard to find pictures of women and traditional culture in Burundi…— with Aricka Douglas.
