Government Responds After Leh Apex Body Refuses Talks Until Peace Returns to Ladakh

The Union Government has responded after the Leh Apex Body (LAB) announced that it would not engage in talks with the Centre until normalcy is restored in Ladakh. The move comes in the aftermath of violent protests in Leh on September 24, which left four people dead and several others injured.

Leh Apex Body Declines Dialogue Amid Unrest

The Chairman of the Leh Apex Body said that the prevailing unrest had created an environment of “fear, grief, and anger.” He clarified that LAB had unanimously agreed not to participate in discussions with the Home Ministry’s High-Powered Committee (HPC) until peace is restored.

“We urge the Home Ministry, the UT administration, and the security forces to take concrete steps to calm the situation. Until then, we will not join any dialogue process,” the Chairman stated.

Centre’s Reaction: “Always Open for Dialogue”

In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reiterated its willingness to hold discussions with both the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).

“The government has always welcomed dialogue with LAB and KDA on matters concerning Ladakh. The mechanism through the High-Powered Committee has already delivered positive results in the past, and we believe that continued discussions will bring a constructive outcome,” the MHA said in a statement.
