I'm a working mom with two very active little girls (ages 8.5 and 4), who works a full-time job and 3 part-time jobs. This blog is about my life. And the shenanigans that we get up to!
My oldest girl, KidD1, has tried ALL the things: taekwondo, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, dance, ice skating, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts.... I'm sure there's a few I'm missing in there, but you get the idea. She currently dances: ballet x2, jazz, tap, contemporary/lyrical, and she takes a conditioning class for ballet as well. She's also in Girl Scouts (she's a Brownie).
My youngest, KidD2, has just started the trying things journey. She has tried Ice Skating and dance, and has tagged along to all of sissy's other activities. She currently ice skates, and I have a feeling she's going to get into Girl Scouts when she gets into kindergarten and qualifies to be a Daisy.
I am my daughter's troop co-leader of her current troop. I was the cookie mom in her last troop, and filled in as co-leader when the co-leader couldn't be there. My part-time jobs? I taught 7 classes last semester (collegiate-level American History), and I'm currently set to teach 6 classes this fall.
I'm back in school (I currently hold a BA in Organizational Leadership, and one in History, and an MA in History), to finish my BA in Anthropology. I wanted to go on to be a forensic anthropologist, but, with our family situation, that's just not going to work. Frankly? I'm too busy. And so are my girls.
I'm happily married to my college sweetheart. We met the first day of college, and have been friends to spouses ever since. And he's happy in his career. And the girls are happy where we live. In order to go on to be a forensic anthropologist, we'd have to move. And I'd have to do a LOT more school. I chose that because I wanted to make a difference. I don't feel like I do currently.
However, tonight, as I was doing my New Troop Leader/Volunteer GS Training, I realized that I CAN make a difference. Without spending all that money to go back to school again, and without having to move. I'll just have to make myself more visible in the community. I'll start volunteering where I can, and be more a part of my daughter's GS Troop. I was a Junior Girl Scout as a kid when we lived in WV, but when we moved back to OH, I didn't continue my journey. They make it especially easy for girls to continue all the way through adulthood now, and I'll be there for my daughter if that's what she wants.
I was also in 4H when we lived in WV. We live in a rural area now in IN, and they I'm sure have 4H clubs here that I could volunteer with.
A big part of why I wanted to change is that my current job annoys me. I work from home, but the company I work for does not have enough people hired for the work that's needed, and so we're overworked, and I don't think they really understand the work involved, because they just keep adding work to our workload.
So, I'm going to look for a new job down the road. Right now? I can't. I'm having a big surgery in 2 weeks that's going to change my life in ways I can't even picture. I'll write more about that later I'm sure.
For now, I'm going to leave you here with this glimpse. Feel free to follow along with our madness and activities as we go through raising little girls...
