“It’s taken years and many broken plates, but I can finally say that I’m okay now.” - BoKuro. MAKE THEM HAPPY AGAIN I BEG OF YOU!
Kind of a sequel to This ficlet. I hope you like it!
Kurooshowed up again in Koutarou’s life at the moment when he leastexpected it. Akaashi had told him, amid all the preparations, that hehadn’t heard from Kuroo in years, and he had not expectations ofKuroo’s answering the invitation. But now, standing at the bar atAkaashi and Azumane’s wedding between Kenma and Hinata, holding adrink and laughing was the most beautiful man Koutarou had everknown.
Andthat was the thing, wasn’tit? Kuroo was beautiful. He was everything Koutarou wanted out oflife, and it had been only too late when he had realized it. He hadspent the past six years trying to get over Kuroo, and he had thoughthe had succeeded. But then Kuroo looked up, caught sight of him, andsmiled, and Koutarou was fucked.
Still,he slapped a returning grin on his face and walked over to say hello.Kenma seemed to know what an important moment this was, for hedragged Hinata away by the arm, leaving Koutarou and Kuroo to theirprivacy.
“Hey,”Koutarou said, a little awkwardly.
“Heyyourself,” Kuroo answered.
“So,um. How you been?” Koutarou asked, then wanted to slap himself. This was Kuroo, the best friend he’dever had, the man he loved, and all he could manage was mildsmalltalk. But then Kuroo laughed and slapped Koutarou on theshoulder.
“It’staken years and many broken plates, but I can finally say that I’mokay now,” he said. “I wasn’t for a long time, but things areactually going good for me right now. And yourself?”
“I’m.Um.” Koutarou couldn’t remember much about the last six years, nothing worth reporting to Kuroo. “I’m the same as I have beenfor a while now,” he said. “Working the same job, living in thesame place.” The same place he had once lived with Kuroo, where hehad once loved Kuroo with all his heart, but hadn’t been enough forKuroo. Hadn’t known Kuroo was enough for him. Kuroo laughed alittle, and Koutarou realized Kuroo’s hand was still on hisshoulder. He looked into Kuroo’s eyes, and Kuroo looked into his,and he saw it then. His chance, to right the wrongs he had committedby not knowing. He smiled at Kuroo.
“Wantto dance?” he asked. Kuroo’s eyes widened for just a second, andthe faintest of blushes appeared on his cheeks, telling Koutarou hehad been right all along. That Kuroo was just as much in love withhim still as he was the day he left. Relief filled Koutarou as Kuroobeamed, beautiful as the dawn.
“Ithought you’d never ask,” he said.
