swarkles was just THAT sitcom couple. two people very similar, with different vibes. friends to lovers to best friends to married trope spanned over years. the yearning, the chaotic messiness, CHEMISTRY. robin/barney really ATE up main ships on that show.
Yes, Ted and Robin were in love. That doesn't mean they should have ended up together. Love isn't enough. Your lives and desires have to be compatible. I don't believe in soulmates. There isn't "the one", there's just different people you love in different ways. And you choose who end up with based on how compatible your lives are. You can be in love with different people for different reasons. Robin also loved Barney, and Ted also loved Tracy. Ted and Tracy/Robin and barney were compatible with each other's lives, so they should have stayed together. The HIMYM ending shouldn't have basically twisted everything to make it so Robin and Ted get back together. It defeated so many years of character development and moving on. It defeats the realistic message that just loving someone isn't enough to maintain a relationship. You have to want the same things and be willing to build a foundation on compatible life goals.

I read an article the other day that was like “You’re actually not fully conscious of things most of the time. If you were the sensory input would overload you” and I was just like asjhfdksajks
Yeah that’s literally what being autistic is like. Allistic people’s brains filter out a lot of the sensory “noise” (from all senses) around them but autistic people’s brains don’t or at least don’t do it as well.
Which is why we can hear shit like hums from all electronics and we are aware of this all the time.
We did an experiment in my anatomy class in high school where you would put a stack of 4 pennies on your arm and then just sit there and talk to your lab partner and they would time how long it took before you stopped being aware of the pennies. It took my lab partner 4 minutes, they waited 16 minutes for me before we gave up and decided it wasnt going to happen. Everyone else in class had already finished.
i once had a class where we studied zazen—a seated zen practice developed in japan, and zen has a focus on being aware of all of your sensory experiences without judgment or other thoughts. my professor thought i was fucking showing off when i said that i never stopped being aware of the sounds of passing cars outside during the half-hour meditation session our class did.
and that’s how i learned that neurotypicals actually struggle to be fully aware of their sensory input

Steve brings Diana home to his parents. They’re told to keep their hands off each other. That doesn’t happen.
okay do you ever just think
when steve died, diana was essentially left with nothing but the watch and a couple photos of him. no funeral no grave - at least not one for himself, he could have had his name on one of the large memorials or something. but nowhere to properly grieve her loss.
he was gone in a blink of an eye, and it left diana with practically nothing.
and to me, that's the saddest part of it all. she had to go looking for his memories. i wonder if she ever tried to contact his parents (through etta or someone else) just to have any more memories or information on who he was.
and because there was no grave, after he was gone, he only existed in memories and photos. there was not much in terms of physical recognition that he was alive.
and this fact leaves me so sad
