in theory, i quite like the idea of female!percy fics. back in the day, when i use to read a lot of a certain wizarding fandom (you know the one), i actually LOVED gender bent stories of the main character. it can be really interesting to toy with how canon would play out differently if the mc was a girl. and in the percy jackson fandom, it's the same. like everything percy goes thru becomes so much worse when she is also facing the innate misogyny of the greek/roman world (which are things that other female characters in the series experience and are not necessarily explored in canon - i LOVE when authors dig into that).

the problem i find with so many female!percy stories is how they strip everything that make percy jackson well... percy. and turn her into a self insert mary sue. like why can't female!percy also be a sassy, impertinent punk with a smart mouth and penchant for mischief?! why does she need to be soft, motherly, and demure??? give me strong female friendships, sisterhood, and a percy who is just as much of a badass as her male counterpart. i especially see this a lot in athenide au fics - an au that I really adore but it's hard to find them done right imo.

I was tidying up a room, and right in the middle of it I saw a massive grandfather clock. At some point I noticed it had the AO3 symbol on it, so obviously I decided to take a picture and post it on Tumblr.
