TXT's Music Video Analysis: Cat & Dog
To start off, I want to say that most of the things that I say in these posts are my opinion, but I also want you to know that even if it's my opinion, it's still an interesting take on their music videos. One of the coolest things that TXT has done with their music videos is in Cat & Dog. In this music video, there are recurring colors of blue and yellow shown on the screen throughout the video. The person who I first saw this from was @/byeblossom on Tiktok. Any MOAs that are on Tiktok have probably already seen that video, but I will explain what she found throughout the video.
The eye is made up of receptors and specialized cells called rods and cones that allow for an organism to depict between different colors around them. By studying the "cones" present in dogs' eyes, it has been found that dogs can only see shades of blue and yellow (and white, gray, and black). This is most closely related to red and green color blindness, which essentially means that one cannot depict between red and green, but can between most other colors. There is another type of color blindness called blue and yellow color blindness that means the opposite (one cannot depict between blue and yellow but can depict between most other colors). Dogs' color blindness is most closely related to red and green color blindness. This being said, there have been generated images to show what dogs can see, which is a range of yellows/browns and very discreet blues.
In Cat & Dog, there are constantly blue and yellows thrown all around the screen in different ways. When watching the music video through the Tiktok filter that is designed to show one potentially how a dog sees the world, it seems as if the music video was meant to have the filter used on it, as the colors that were used in the music video show very well. In the scenes where they are with dogs (Beomgyu at 2:43 and Soobin at 2:55), the background is a shade of yellow or blue, colors that dogs can see. The only rivaling evidence of this is when Hueningkai is with a dog at 2:52, where the background is orange. Dogs cannot see orange very well, as it is basically a reddish shade of yellow, so they will see it as a dull gold color.
In the scenes when they are with cats (Taehyun at 2:49 and Yeonjun at 2:57), the background is either red or green. Apparently, researchers argue over what colors cats can see but agree that they can at least see green and blues well. With red, I personally am unknowing of whether they can see it well, though my research tells me that they can't really see reds and oranges like we can.
Even with the small exceptions, I am almost confident that they purposely set the color scheme the way they had it (mostly to fit with the canine vision, but perhaps to also fit the feline vision) because of the song being called Cat & Dog. The people who come up with the ideas for different TXT music videos and the lore behind them (which I will talk about in other posts) are absolute geniuses, and I appreciate the thought they put into their music videos that people don't usually think about.
