I can't believe that I just got done writing the outline for this comic. I have to go back over all of it to make it more professional and double check the writing itself. BUT IT'S 72 PAGES AND TOOK MONTHS?!?!?! I didn't expect it to be this long but I'm proud of it I hope my friends enjoy it.

[OCs | 🥀Florence and Klaus💉] I'M SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE LAST 2 DESIGNS! THE CREATOR AND HIS WIFE! Also yea that's all the info I'm giving but it's a real depressing relationship between these two believe me. You will learn that once the comic is out though! Again I want to do more cleaner and nicer looking refs in the future but I wanted to have sketches of the final designs at least finished! I'm so happy with how everyone has turned out and I feel so confident with all of their personalities, developments and back stories! So for the update of the story writing itself- I have the beginning finialized and the ending is pretty solid but will need more. I have all of my ideas for what will happen inbetween but I need to write it out properly and put it all together. I plan to send out the story to trusted friends and to recieve any honest feedback/critic that they will have, after coming back from Magfest next week. I also plan to have the writing completely done this month and doing screenshot studies for the comic. Then in Feburary I will start sketching out the pages and I want to have at least all the sketches done by the end of this year! I'm so dang excited to work on this passion project [name still pending] and I can't wait to show the rest of the world when things are ready!

This month has been the busiest for me. Now that the holidays are over I slept for 12 hours into my weekend off. I'm still working to finish the last 2 character designs and the rest of the story writing before the end of the year. I'm eager to start illustrating the comic as planned.

But also the breaks from social media has been needed. It's the first year that seasonal depression didn't really affect me because I did so much work on myself this year. I had self care days and stopped doom scrolling. It's been wonderful to also reconnect with good friends.

I feel like I'm truly enjoying life for the first time this year. Even when things go wrong I've gotten back up so much faster. The holidays for the first time left me at peace because I'm fully being myself without fear and was accepted. But also the problematic members were not there too aha

I also want to give a huge shout-out to journaling. I've learned some good therapy advice from good sources. With journaling my mental health has made leaps especially this year. Wow thanks for reading this yap session and happy holidays! 💛

Describe your work in your own words—what is Nyan Cat?

Nyan Cat is a little cat with a pastry body and rainbow trail that's been flying across the internet since 2011. It began as a fun little pixel animation I made back in 2011 of my Russian Blue cat, Marty. I drew it on a 70x70 canvas using Macromedia Fireworks, an old program I've been using since 2001. I've always been fascinated by classic video games from the OG Nintendo era, and a lot of my ideas come from trying to recreate that feeling.

How did Nyan Cat come about, for those who don’t know? Give us your origin story!

I created Nyan Cat (and its best pal, Fiesta Dog, who is a corgi with a taco body and blue gradient trails that complement Nyan Cat's rainbow trail) during a donation event to help with disaster relief after Japan's Tohoku earthquake. Once posted online, someone paired Nyan Cat with Daniwell's "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" song, and it instantly took off. Nyan Cat was always meant to be lighthearted and fun, and it's grown into something much bigger than I'd ever imagined. Since 2011, it's circled the globe billions of times and has spawned countless remixes in different styles and flavors.

What’s one Tumblr-specific fan interaction, reblog, or moment that surprised you or made you feel seen as a creator?

Tumblr has always been one of the genuine spaces for Nyan Cat, and it's actually where it all first took off. The original was posted on my blog late at night on April 2nd, and that's where it first blasted off online. I've seen so many creative renditions and uses for Nyan Cat in different styles, it's still amazing to see it pop up in new ways. My favorite Tumblr thing right now has been when it's used on those Blingee/GeoCities style navbar buttons. I think it captures that early internet charm perfectly and reminds me why I fell in love with internet art culture in the first place.

What project or direction are you excited about next?

Right now, I'm happy watching Nyan Cat live a life of its own—it's the internet that's keeping the legend alive and I'm always grateful to see all the ways people use it. I am still drawing different Nyan Cat characters in the original format and style, and plan to continue making fun art as it inspires me. It's been a lot of fun keeping that energy going and watching how art and memes keep evolving together as the internet grows.
