I think I’m going to be a pretty kick-ass uncle. I’m good at spoiling people without the responsibility. When I first moved out to L.A. to be an actor, this family knew that I was a pretty big athlete back in Texas, and they said, “You can live in our house for free if you coach our kid in football, basketball, and lacrosse.” So I was coaching all these sports teams and I got to live at this house in Bel Air—this nine-acre estate—for free. It was amazing. Their son was 10 years old and I’d take him and his friends out for frozen yogurt, take them to dances and their friends’ houses and we’d kick it over there. The responsibility of making sure a kid lives is not something I’m ready for quite yet, but I’m ready to take them out and have a good time.

Sterek AU - Hale Academy
Sleek ebony doors fall open under Derek’s hand to a stone hallway. Magnificent pillars have been carved into the walls here, permitting the heat and light of the sun to pour through. Perched preeminently at the end of the hall is a balcony. Derek’s balmoral’s echo faintly as he walks to it. The room he’d come from has an excessive amount of air-conditioning, as no one has had the chance to tweak it to Derek’s preference, yet. (No one has had the time, more like.) He won’t bother the staff with it. The succession has tripled everyone’s workloads, including his own. He can deal with chilly fingers. Still, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t relish spreading his fingers over the sun-warmed stone on the balcony edge. His fingers tingle and turn to butter, melting slowly into liquid. With the feeling back in his fingers he looks out onto the grounds.
Hale Academy. (Yes, Hale academy, not to be mistaken for, ‘Hail, the academy!’ The second of which is a cheer in favor of the literal school, not the Hales, as it is widely accepted among the students that there can be one without the other.)
Derek’s eyes are drawn to one student in particular. Stiles Stilinski is lounging luxuriously on the grass, hands perched behind him so that his long pale neck can tilt back, back, back. His eyes are closed and there’s the smallest of grins hinted at in the tug of his lips. He looks how Derek’s fingers feel; warm and malleable.
It strikes Derek rather suddenly that he’s the only student not tucked into the corners and tables and benches surrounding the square. Hale Academy doesn’t see many sunny days, but while the rest of the students seem unbothered - knowing it won’t last - Stilinski basks in it. It must be because he’s from California, Derek’s mind supplies absently.
“Who is he?”
“Some kid from California.” Cora said, “S’been a while since we’ve had one of those, the majority of bigger packs run in the east.”
“He’s human.”
Cora had shrugged. “The academy chose him.”
Derek’s fingers start to go cold again. Looking down, a shadow has begun to cross over them. He glances up and watches as the clouds start bleeding across the sky, blotting out the sun. Unthinkingly, his gaze flashes back down to the grass, to that long pale neck, and feels his heart smack against his ribs when he finds the eyes that neck belongs to watching him back. Derek tightens his hands on the balcony. Far below him the spilling shadow has reached Stilinski, and when Derek doesn’t look away from their met gaze, the human raises his eyebrow and grins.
With forced grace, Derek turns from the balcony, thinking, “He’s gonna be eaten alive.”
any sterek fics that include the Loft? Thanks x
Hey :)
Maybe these ones.
never found a boy (to love me like you do) by stilinskisparkles | 6.6K
Stiles sits down opposite him, long fingers wrapping round the vodka bottle’s neck as he drags it towards him. “Huh.” He’s practically caressing the lid as he unscrews it and Derek shifts in his seat, looks determinedly elsewhere.
The Hollow Moon by thepsychicclam | 180K
It’s the summer after Stiles’ first year of college, and he’s working a crappy job and dealing with nightmares and anxiety - but he’s okay, he swears. He makes it through most days without too much trouble. Then, a certain werewolf comes back into town. Which Stiles doesn’t care about, nope, not at all.
(not so) Pure Imagination by theroguesgambit | 33.1K
“There is a world where whenever someone fantasizes about you, you can physically feel it, but you have no idea who is thinking it about you.”
Stiles knows it’s wrong, but he’s been Fantasizing about Derek and he can’t bring himself to stop. Derek doesn’t know who’s taken an interest in him, but he’s enjoying it way more than he probably should.
we knew the hands of the devil by grimm | 27.9K
Derek will never forget the sound Stiles makes when the alphas take him.
It’s small, so soft a human never would have caught it, but to Derek it’s as loud as cannon fire; a quick, panicked intake of air that’s not a shout, not a scream. It’s desperate and frightened and almost Derek’s name and it hurts him to the core. Derek roars as Kali lifts Stiles off the bed, the boy struggling against her hold like an oversized doll come to life. Derek fights against the twins, red mist boiling in his vision, fury and terror pumping through his veins.
“Say goodbye, Derek,” Kali says softly, triumphantly. “You’ll never see him again.”
I won’t sleep if you won’t sleep by dragon_temeraire | 4K
After the nogitsune, Stiles is unable to sleep. To help, he has a spell cast on him that will link him with Derek.
The Second Coming (of Werewolf Jesus) by lupinus, uraneia | 40.1K
Stiles was enjoying his senior year until his crazy English teacher decided he made the best candidate to gestate Derek’s kid. Now Stiles is a seventeen-year-old pregnant dude and he and Derek have to figure their shit out, because in nine months they are going to be tied together for the rest of their lives.
Hypothetically: Wolfsbane by JenNova | 7K
“So,” Stiles says, resting his elbows on his knees and settling his chin in his hands. “Hypothetical then: one of you guys gets dosed with some sex wolfsbane – how do we deal with it?”
The truth about love (comes at 3 AM) by Finduilas | 9.5K
When the pack gets locked in at Derek’s new loft during a snowstorm, they play ‘truth or dare’ to pass the time.
Convenient by exclamation | 10.7K
Stiles knows what he is to Derek: convenient. He knows that Derek isn’t looking for a relationship, just someone to have casual sex with. Which is why Stiles is so surprised to find Derek setting up a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day.
In Desperate Times by Nokomis | 3.4K
Stiles gets magic wish-granting powers, but only when he’s in danger. He begins to teleport to Derek in increasingly awkward moments.
Turn a Little Faster by skoosiepants | 3.2K
He shifts back and forth on his feet and tries to psych himself up. He can do this. He’s a badass werewolf, he can totally tell Stiles that they accidentally got werewolf married because—because Stiles was thinking about him, and happened to give him a token of his, uh, affection under the silvery light of the last full moon. Platonic affection, Derek thinks sourly, so he doesn’t get why his wolf feels all warm and fuzzy and bonded all of a sudden.
Honestly, it’s like—why aren’t people accidentally getting werewolf married all the time, if it happens this easily?
Smoke is Just the Air Remembering Fire, part 2/3
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
“I love you too, Sourwolf,” Stiles says.
The words do something to Derek, make him warm in a way he forgot he could. He knows the confessions might not mean a damn thing, given all the years between them, but they’re something.
Something like hope.
Derek isn’t quite sure where to go from here here, so he just stands behind the bar in silence, the tension growing ever-more-palpable by the second.
“So,” Stiles says finally, sitting down on a barstool with a familiar mischievous glint in his tired eyes. “Who does a guy have to blow to get a drink around here?”
Yeah, it’s definitely Stiles. It’s incredible, how his smirk is exactly the same as he remembers, how the overwhelming flutter of affection that has always drawn Derek to him blossoms in his heart again, just like it used to.

A Guy Walks into a Bar Stiles/Derek Teen
There was something about New York that settled Derek Hale. Maybe it was the anonymity of it, maybe it was the friends he had made there when he and Laura had lived there, or maybe it was the way memories of Laura didn’t come tainted with blood.
Or, maybe, it was who he was in New York. He wasn’t Derek Hale, exonerated murder suspect, former alpha, unwanted pack member. No, in New York he was just Derek, and he liked that. He liked being Derek in a way that wasn’t tied to some tragic past that people constantly brought up.
Even the friends that he’d had before going back to Beacon Hills didn’t look at him like he was broken or evil. They had all been sad to hear about Laura, they had all understood why he stayed away for the three years that he had been gone, and they had all welcomed him back with open arms.

“So, what happened?”
Derek sighs as he stirs the spoon in his coffee mug. They’re in a cafe close to the police station that Stiles just picked him up from, and while Stiles is on his second cup of caffeine, Derek is still staring into the first, wondering if it’s gone completely cold by now.
“It’s complicated,” he says.
“Then uncomplicate it for me,” Stiles shoots back, face expressionless.
Derek stays quiet.
“Look, man,” Stiles says after a heavy sigh. “I’m not gonna judge. Hell, you know the shit I used to get into back in Beacon Hills. And I already know what the guy did the first time. We’ve been working on getting everything back, not just the box with the photos of you and Laura and… everyone.”
“I know,” Derek says. “It’s just…”
“You weren’t supposed to be near him,” Stiles tells him, disapproval ringing through his voice. “This isn’t going to make our case easier.”
“It’s not like I did it on purpose!”
“Then why the restraining order violation?”
Derek takes a few calming breaths, then looks up at Stiles.
“He came to Laura’s place again,” he says. “He had a bag with him, and I’m guessing it was all the stuff that he was supposed to return. Probably wanted to claim that he never had any of it.”
“What an asshole,” Stiles says. “He needs to be locked up.”
“Is that your professional legal opinion, Mr. Stilinski?” Derek asks with amusement.
There’s something warm that settles in his stomach when he realises that Stiles is willing to fight for him, for Laura’s memory, for everything that Derek holds dear. He knew this before, of course, but it was mostly theoretical.
“Oh shut up, you know I’m right,” Stiles mutters. “But I’m glad I amuse you.”
“It’s not that hard,” Derek says.
“It used to be,” Stiles replies. “I used to try to get you to smile back then. I’m not sure you knew.”
“I didn’t.” Derek narrows his eyes, and then asks, because he can’t figure it out. “Why?”
A blush spreads across Stiles’ cheeks, and maybe that’s all the answer that Derek needs to get. Maybe the answer is the same as the reason why he’s been trying to be funny around Stiles since the time that Stiles walked into the police station and declared that he was Derek’s lawyer.
“Because it’s you,” Stiles does answer eventually. “Because you should’ve smiled more. Because I thought… still do… that you deserve to be happy.”
And yes, there it is. Not difficult or complicated, after all.

Playing in the minors, just one phone call away from having every dream come true, means Derek has no time for distractions, no time for fun. He has to bring his A-game every day, during practice and game nights equally. The coaches are always watching and he needs that next ringing phone to be the one calling him up to the majors. He’ll have fun when he’s catching for the Mets.
But then Stiles Stilinski gets picked up to pitch for the Las Vegas 51s and…
Derek has never had so much fun getting distracted.

“We can’t just leave him here to die.”
“He’s an emissary, Scott.” Derek tried to make his tone empathetic, but Scott’s tendency to fight back on everything always grated on his nerves. “His pack is gone, he won’t survive more than a day or two either way.”
“Then we should stay with him.”
