Like, if someone of the fandom find my posts and looks that I have no clue about the fandom besides how hot the character Iâm talking about, may be pissed.

âOkay so, LeonâŚâ Hunniganâs voice rumbled on his helmet. The engine was so loud he could barely hear her. âWeâre gonna do a race simulation. We want to check the degradation and the pace weâre currently at.â
âCopy.â He down-shifted before entering the last corner, riding through it and gearing again âtill the engine was screaming.
The car felt fast these past days of tests.
They didnât have a shitty car last year; at least not like McLarenâs. Leon was able to jump on the podium a couple of times, but not the way everyone expects from Ferrari.
It was just not their time.
Leon pressed the âDrinkâ button again. Driving this car was exhausting. Itâs fast, yes, but also draining and difficult. Itâs so demanding that his arms were starting to feel a bit sore, and he's just been driving for an hour now.
The over-steering started at lap 7, too damn soon.
âThese tyres are already gone, mateâ Leon complained through the radio. He was having problems with left-handed turns, especially turn 10. Itâs hard enough as it is; doing it with degradation makes it even worse.
âHow is this possible?â He asked again. âThe brakes also feel gone.â
âLeft front brake temp is climbing faster than we expected,â Hunnigan added.
Leon expected another message from pitwall, some instructions if he should finish the stint and enter boxes. But it took longer than he expected.
âLeon, engineering suggests some lift and coast before arriving at the turns. Donât be too aggressive with the brakes. Continue the stint.â
âWhatââ
âOrders from above, Leon.â Hunnigan cut him. Itâs been a couple of years now since sheâs his race engineer, and she's starting to know him too much now.
He growled without pressing the radio button. Just to let out the frustration of the moment.
If the car doesnât feel good, why are they making him drive more without checking it?
Looks like the team trusts her more than Leon, whoâs actually behind the wheel. They are going blindfolded with what the new chief mechanic says.
Mid-season last year, they announced a revolutionary signing. One of the lead mechanics who worked on the Red Bull last season. The winning car. And also the sister of the current World Champion.
Leon had worked with her a bit during the winter break. At the factory they exchanged some words and feedback at the simulator. But just strictly necessary.
He still doesnât trust her.
Sheâs the sister of his biggest rival. She even worked with them last year. What guarantees him that she isn't boycotting Ferrari? That she doesnât have anything to do with Red Bull now?
âLeon, last lap you were extremely low the last couple of laps. Everythingâs alright?â
He blinked rapidly, clearing the fog that was already taking his mind, before responding to her.
âYeah, sorry.â
â°â°â°
âSo, box this lap Leon.â
Finally.
He relaxes his shoulders when the mechanics lifts the car to enter it at the garage.
Leon takes off his helmet once heâs out of the car. All his hair compacted against his skull, sweated due to the effort.
âHowâs the time?â He asks Hunnigan, walking to the pit-wall.
âIt looks good.â She takes off her headset, letting them hang at her neck. âWeâre also done for today. At least you on track.â She nods toward the garage. âThey still have a lot of work to do.â
He follows her gaze, straight to the red-haired girl. It looks almost like sheâs ginger to fit on this team.
All the mechanics look like they trust her, listening to her words and what they need to check for tomorrow, while she holds a tablet with all the data collected during his session.
âHow did the car feel, Leon?â Claire walks towards him, at which he sighs exhausted.
âIt was perfect for the first few laps, but after a while at full throttle, the front brakes overheat and the degradation is brutal.â
âYeah, we saw that in the data. Weâll check.â She nods, looking at the tablet again. âBut the car feels good?â
âYeah,â Leon nodded, âyou guys did a great job during the break.â
Even if he doesnât fully trust her, he has to admit that they worked hard to build this car.
Claire smiled softly, still trying to get used to Leonâs personality.
Heâs so intimidating sometimes, like all the other drivers when theyâre focused. But one thing the others don't have is the sense of team he has.
It's so different when she worked for Red Bull.
âLeon,â Charlotte, his PR assistant, rushed him with his phone in hand. âYou have an interview with Sky Sports in 5. Youâre ready?â
He looked at her, running his fingers through his hair trying to look more presentable.
âYeah, sure. Let's go.â The blonde one waved at Hunnigan before saying goodbye to the entire mechanical team.
â°â°â°
âIâll catch up with you in a second. I need to grab somethingâ
It was already dark when Leon was finally free from all the media stuff. Itâs the thing he hates most about being an F1 driver. He just likes to drive. Wished the other parts were optional.
He was already scolded from Charlotte for forgetting his cap at the garage, so he runs to it to take it before leaving for the hotel.
A stain of light caught him off guard as soon as he reached the box. He looks at his watch again, all the mechanics should already be at the hotel at this time.
But what surprised him the most was who was doing extra hours.
The red ponytail waved near the left front brake. Looking at it like it was something off with it.
Leon knew, but she relied fully on the data.
âSo I may be right then?â Claire jumped from her chair, clearly startled, and grabbed her chest firmly.
âGod, Leon. Donât ever do that again, especially when Iâm working on the car.â She drops a wrench on the floor, with a little grease on her gloves.
âSorry,â he chuckled gently. âDidnât know you were so jumpy.â
âWhat are you doing here?â She asks, turning his attention back to the car. âDrivers are supposed to be resting.â
âI forgot this,â he walked to where his cap was resting, taking it and spinning it through his finger.
But the red-haired doesnât look back at him, sheâs still too focused on the wheel.
Leon observes her quietly, it's the first time heâs seen her so focused on something.
Claire clicks her tongue shaking her head and gets up from the chair, only to realize that Leon is still there. Shoulder against one of the walls and arms crossed against his chest.
âEven though the data showed that everything was fine, I wanted to check it out for myself.â She wipes away the sweat that was slowly dripping from her forehead. Even though it's late February, the temperature inside the garage felt higher.âI always trust the pilotâs word above everything else, even if this machine says the opposite.â
Leon raised one eyebrow, a bit concerned.
âIt didn't look like that after I get out of the car,â
âI know, I know,â Claire excused herself, leaving the car and looking at him again. âIâm still getting used to your driving style and trying to figure how the car will respond to it.â
He nodded. She has a point there. If changing teams as a driver it's hard, he canât imagine how Claire mustâve struggled.
And the difference at the garage between RedBull and Ferrari it's also very different.
One is fully focused on results, data and winning; while the other fully moves by history, respect and legacy.
âThis might come from an aerodynamic problem,â Claire added, taking off her gloves and tossing them onto the workbench. âOr at least, something that starts there.â
Leon tilted his head slightly. âAero causing brake temps?â
âIndirectly,â she replied, grabbing the tablet again and pulling up a cfd simulation. âIf the airflow isnât stabilizing the front, youâre driving trying to compensate without realizing it.â
He frowned.
She had reached a conclusion that would have taken anyone else considerably longer.
âI want to try a different front wing configuration for tomorrow,â she continued. âIt might cost you a bit of pace at firstââ
âI don't care,â Leon cut in. âThatâs what tests are for, right? To try things out till you find the best result.â
A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips, nodding slowly.
âGood,â Claire said. âBecause it might feel worse before it feels better.â
Leon huffed a quiet laugh at that.
âGreat. Canât wait.â Leon finally pushes himself off the wall, adjusting his cap again.
âJust don't make me drive a car that makes me crash into the first wall I come across.â
He could hear her chuckle, as he straightened himself.
âI canât guarantee anything.â she shrugged, with a silly smile across her face.
Leon held her gaze for a few seconds, noticing the dark bags under her eyes.
âMechanics are as important as the drivers, you know that?â
Claire let out a quiet breath, glancing back at the car.
âIâm trying to remember that, yeah.â She admitted, softer this time.
She turned away again, already reaching for her tools.
âIâll just tidy this up a bit and head to the hotelâ donât worry, Kennedyâ
Leon didnât move right away.
He stood in the middle of the garage, watching her move around the place like she already belonged there.
He had spent the entire day questioning her.
Now, he wasnât so sure.
Leon adjusted his cap, turning towards the exit this time.
âIâll see you tomorrow, Redfieldâ
âGood night, Leon.â
He stepped out into the cold night air, the noise of the paddock long gone.
His Ferrari was parked all alone by now.
With only two weeks ahead, they need to set up the winning car. He wonât let Chris win this time.
At least not again.
Okay so first of all i want to apologize if i get too technical about anything car-related. I'm not a professional or have a degree in mechanical, so also sorry if anything I write doesn't have any sense lol. I think its the first time i feel comfortable enough to write cuz i feel i have enough knowledge to write about F1, like ive been watching and debating with my father for so freaking long about it.
Also, I hope you enjoy it as much as i'm enjoying writing this!!
Its my first time writing a full fanfiction, so i hope i stay constant even with my lack of time.
