Magnus is an isolated man, partially because of his banishment to his homeworld of Prospero but also because of his intellect.
His intelligence is what sets him apart from most of his brothers, his knowledge of the arcane and other topics some wouldn't even dare to touch gives him a distinct advantage. His sons would sometimes challenge his ideas or even present new ones to be tested, but Magnus continually felt as if there was something missing.
Enter: you.
The two of you had met in one of the many sprawling libraries of Prospero. You had been conducting research on leylines for some time, and the one book you needed to help with your studies was the same book Magnus had intended on rereading (for the millionth time).
Did you expect to encounter the primarch of the Thousand Sons? Absolutely not. But what took you even further aback was that he spoke to you as an equal. "There's no need for honorifics when we are both in the pursuit of knowledge," he said.
One thing led to another, the two of you started to run into each other more often and would talk for hours on end. What started as two intellectuals in the pursuit of knowledge ends up becoming two intellectuals madly in love.
Magnus' love languages are words of affirmation and quality time.
Quality time should go without saying. He adores the conversation he has with you. You have the same level of passion he does when you talk about the topics that interest you. This passion, he discovered, is what was missing from past conversations with others.
A fair warning: Magnus is a certified yapper. He could go on for hours about a single topic and pull out every single tome he owns on it for the two of you to look through. If you want to change the subject or even take a break, just tell him (he understands).
Magnus is in constant need of validation, not just to get the reassurance that he's smart enough but also the reassurance that he is doing the right thing.
The primarch of the Thousand Sons is genuine in his belief that he can unlock the potential of humanity through the warp and psychic powers. His use of the warp is what inevitably gets him banished to Prospero, and the Imperium is strictly against the use of magics.
Reassure him that all of his efforts have had a positive impact already. His homeworld would not be the bastion of knowledge today if it hadn't.
He has a habit of getting into his own head, deep in his thoughts. Your words help pull him out of it and focus on something else.
Magnus wants to show you everything he knows about the warp. He shows off all the different skills he has learned in his long life, and if you are a psyker yourself he would love nothing more than to help you unlock your true potential.
The guy is big. Huge even. And no, I'm not talking about his wiener (that's for a different post). Magnus is the largest of the primarchs and that makes him a pretty imposing figure. But you learn very quickly that he's actually a gentle giant.
It takes a lot to make the primarch genuinely upset about something. He is very mild-mannered, but ignorance is one of his biggest pet peeves.
His mind is always going, thinking of the next problem to solve and the millions of potential ways to fix it. Again, it is easy for him to get lost in thought and when he does he tends to use warp magic to fiddle with things without realizing it.
Neither of you will forget when he was absentmindedly fiddling with a cup of tea and it accidentally spilled all over your newest research notes. Needless to say he was mortified.
The biggest drawback to his brilliant mind is the many sleepless nights he has. Sometimes you'll wake up in the middle of the night, realizing your love wasn't with you. Now, primarchs don't really need to sleep but Magnus found it to be soothing (and it was something the two of you could do together).
It didn't take you long to find him. He was on the balcony, silently looking up at the night sky completely lost in his own thoughts. You gently placing your hand over his is what shook him out of it. Gently smiling up at him, sleep still in your eyes, you led him back to bed. He had never felt so... content.
Magnus had felt for a long time that something had been missing from his life. What had been missing was you.
I've been wanting to post about the handful of original characters I've cooked up for Warhammer for a while so now I'm finally taking the time to do it.
As a writer one of my favorite things to do is create characters, so don't be surprised if there are more of these posts in the future.
This post is specifically about the little family I cooked up for my favorite primarch. It's a long post so everything will be under the cut. Please enjoy!
Warnings: Loss of a spouse/parent
Noelle Ershaes, Wife of the Primarch Fulgrim
Noelle was the youngest of three children born into the noble Ershaes family on Terra, having two older brothers named Lawrence and Markus. All three of the Ershaes children grew up to be very close, and hwile Lawrence and Markus stuck within the family business of politics and law Noelle was much more interested in history and anthropology.
So she became an anthropologist, and a pretty good one too. Her parents were... disappointed to say the least, but Noelle couldn't have cared less about what they thought. She was doing something she loved! Taking up a position as a lead researcher meant that Noelle became a very busy woman and was very dedicated to her work.
Alright so here's the question: How did she meet Fulgrim?
The details I have are somewhat in the works and I do plan on writing a full fic of their first meeting at some point in the future, but here is what I have so far:
The Ershaes family is very heavily involved in politics on Terra right? I don't know if a member of the family would be sitting on the Council of Terra (a lot of this stuff takes place before the Heresy) or they have connections to someone on the Council (I'm still debating). BUT the Ershaes are getting a little too close for comfort to the Council and in an attempt to get them to back off Malcador personally reaches out to the family and arranges a marriage between Noelle and Fulgrim.
Fulgrim was specifically chosen because this wasn't his first time in an arranged marriage for political reasons (this is mentioned in canon). And he agreed although somewhat begrudgingly (not to Malcador's face though), mostly because he knew this marriage would end like his previous ones.
Noelle doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowd in terms of looks. Average height, average build, curly brown hair and brown eyes. She looked like any other Terran woman. But what made Fulgrim fall so deeply in love with her was her personality. She was a spitfire and despite his status as a Primarch Noelle had no problem speaking her mind. Her dedication and passion for her work also resonated with Fulgrim, those are traits not just reflected in him but his entire legion. Needless to say, it worked out. They married, and a few years later they had a daughter (who I'll get into in a bit).
One of the rules of Warhammer is that you can't have shit in the grim darkness of the far future, so unfortunately this is where we get into angst territory. Noelle passes away when Istus is young from disease. And her passing absolutely breaks Fulgrim. But what time they did have together, not just as husband and wife but as parents was absolutely perfect. Those memories is something Fulgrim holds onto tightly, even as he loses himself to chaos.
I will absolutely be writing happy endings for these characters you best believe
Istus Tullea Ershaes, Daughter of the Primarch Fulgrim
Istus is the only child of Fulgrim. I love seeing other people's takes where he has a big family, but I don't think he would. Like I said earlier, Fulgrim has canonically been married multiple times for political reasons and while I think he did love them to an extent it wasn't the same with Noelle. Noelle was the one wife he had that he felt genuine love towards and losing her was the last straw. He couldn't bring himself to marry again and try for another child. Not when his daughter was already perfect.
Istus inherited her father's albinism, the stark white hair, deep violet eyes, and pale skin. But her facial features she inherited from her mother. Any child of Fulgrim is going to be beautiful and Istus is no exception. She has a 1920's black and white film star look about her, like Clara Bow for example (pictured below). Those soft, slightly downturned eyes are one of her most striking features. She also inherited her mom's curly hair.
Istus's childhood, like all children of Primarchs, was nowhere near conventional. After Noelle's passing, Fulgrim took on the task of raising his daughter himself, with little help from the serfs. It was important for him to have a relationship with his child despite his hectic job. Fulgrim was his daughter's teacher, in standard school subjects, the arts, as well as combat. Was he strict with her? Yeah, he definitely was at times. He wanted perfection from her the same way he expected it from his sons. But teaching a child was different than teaching an Astartes so he changed his teaching methods.
Istus was very close with her father, and unfortunately she was too young to remember her mother. Life was good until the heresy began to unfold. She's smart, she could see the change in her father's behavior. He would always act different after his meetings with uncle Horus but she didn't bring it up. The events of Istvaan III changed everything for Istus, especially the way she saw her father. After that she left without saying a word.
I think the last time Fulgrim saw his daughter was at the Siege of Terra on the battlefield. Istus fought alongside those of her cousins who had remained loyal to the Imperium. They came face to face once (but didn't trade blows), and Istus saw what her father had become. After the Siege only a handful of people she trusts knows where Istus is. To many, however, her whereabouts are a mystery.
This little family has so much potential for angst but also so much potential for fluff, I'm so excited to write stuff for them
Mischaracterisation of Fulgrim's character will be bane of my existence now that I learned more about him (pre-heresy, I still have to read novels and crack that snek up) I see how people misunderstand him.
Fulgrim represents himself as high class sure, his looks matter to him a whole lot and he knows he is beautiful and he knows his looks have an effect on other people. Fulgrim knows looks matter and he uses that to his advantage, as well as for his personal enjoyment, he enjoys all things beautiful after all.
But at the same time, Fulgrim deep down is very insecure. He constantly thinks he is not enough, especially in comparison with his brothers and Emperor, to whom Fulgrim feels he has to achieve impossible to be seen as worthy of the love. That leads to his quest to achieve perfection, even if in truth real perfection is not really possible to anyone, not even to someone as Primarch.
I also see a whole lot of mischaracterisation on Fulgrim's personality too: he is seen as glamorious, white handed, and pretty silly boy while in truth Fulgrim is exceptionally down to earth and someone who does not shy from dirty work. Fulgrim takes pride in his past, in years he spent working in the mines, in all the machinery he had fixed and all the labour he did to reform Chemos from dying mine world into a prosperous paradise world. On other hand, Fulgrim too feels sorrow for all he had to do to tranform Chemos from warying tribes and Overseer castes into united society. He does take pride in his work, but not always in the methods used to achieve that.
A whole lot of Fulgrim's character is a facade he wants to showcase, because that is useful to him to be seen as beautiful, majestic, teatralic and hardly approachable, but under that shining exterior hides simple, extremely talented and hardworking man, who feels deeply insecure and thinks despite all the work he did, he will never be perfect enough and that in return breeds his utter need of control, to be in control, because his self-worth is so damaged, he feels he constantly needs to strive to prove he is no worse than his brethren by putting goals to surpass them, no matter how much he will have to sacrifice for those.
I will say till the end of time that one of the novels that truly shows who Fulgrim is as a character is his primarch book The Palatine Phoenix. Please please please read it if you haven't already, it's also just very well written.
I have thoroughly enjoyed your "Primarchs In Love" series. It's so heartwarming!
Might I request a "Primarchs As Husbands" series, next?
I'm so glad you've enjoyed the series so far! I say it a lot but it has been a lot of fun to write so far. As for your request, I will happily take it! I've been thinking about it for a little while now, but exploring these characters being in love or as husbands helps expand on aspects of these characters not explored in the lore.
All this to say, please look forward to a new series in the future!
AKA if it's anyone who can stop this workaholic in his tracks, it's you.
It's time for everyones favorite baby girl Bobby G to get some "In Love" Headcanons! We're getting close to the halfway point of this series (I guess it's a series?) which is wild. If you have any ideas for what headcanons you wanna see next like the primarchs as fathers, husbands, etc let me know!
Enjoy!

Everyone knows Roboute is a workaholic. I know it, you know it, his sons know it, even the Emperor knows it. So when you enter his life, work doesn't seem nearly as important as it did before.
Now, don't get it twisted, Roboute is still incredibly serious about his work. But now he's finding ways to work you into his schedule. It starts off as requesting you bring him paperwork. He would make small talk here and there and discovered he valued your opinion on things and as time went on he would request you presence at meetings.
You have a brilliant mind. and you're not afraid to speak it. Among all of the advisors the primarch his you refuse to let your voice be drowned out. This even earns you the respect of some of his most trusted sons.
You know you're in good with the Ultramarines when Marneus Calgar vouches for you.
Roboute's love languages are acts of service and quality time.
Roboute Guilliman is the reseaon chivalry is not dead. Out of all of the primarchs, he is one that most embodies a gentleman. Of course he's going to hold the door open for you. Of course he's going to make sure your meals are to your specific standards.
But most importantly he will put your needs before his own, sometimes to his own detriment.
The primarch of the Thirteenth legion has gotten used to years of burying his nose in his work (both on and off the battlefield). And yes, primarchs do not need to meet the same nutrition standards as baselines or even Astartes, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't eat.
When you go out of your way to make sure he gets a proper meal or take breaks in between his paperwork and Excel spreadsheets, he knows that you really care for him.
Roboute will never ask you to do anything for him, it's perhaps one of the things he is the most stubborn about. Remind him that sometimes it's okay to ask for help., that he doesn't need to carry the entire Imperium on his shoulders.
Spending time with you means that Roboute gets to turn his brain off, even if it's just for a few moments. He loves when you sit on his lap and listen to him talk (let this man infodump please).
This is how you learn that Roboute talks with his hands when he becomes very passionate about a subject.
Now, you may have to remind your lover to steer clear of work topics. In the beginning of your relationship it's his default conversation topic because it's usually the topic of most of his conversations.
One time the two of you talked about incredibly obscure and oddly specific laws Roboute has encountered during the Great Crusade. Some of them were actually pretty funny (and yes, you got to see your primarch laugh).
Roboute is very tense. All the time. And despite the fact that he does not have much free time on his hands, one thing he will never skip is a nice soak in the bath.
For one, it's very relaxing. The hot water helps relieve all the tension in his muscles. But it's also a very quiet environment, and he just enjoys the fact that it's silent. It gets even better with you there.
It shouldn't come as too big of a surprise but Roboute is a big reader. In the rare moments when the primarch does need sleep reading is something he does to relax.
Does he read pretty much only non-fiction? Yes. Do you encourage him to read outside of that genre? Also yes, and he reads ever single book you recommend to him.
You are Roboute Guilliman's treasure. You are more precious to him than the most beautiful piece of lapis lazuli would be to a gem collector.
In the beginning, he kept pushing forward to see his father's vision come to fruition. But now? You're the reason he keeps going. Roboute fights for a better future for you.
First post back after my hiatus let's go! As promised here are the In Love headcanons for him. I won't lie, I think he's one character that is a little more difficult for me to write for, but I still had fun writing these nonetheless.
Enjoy!

Perturabo is... stubborn, to say the least. He denies that he has any sort of feelings for you for a while and chooses to ignore his feelings by burying himself in his work (more so than usual). In this phase he becomes more irritated and isolates himself in his work area often.
He's smart enough to know that he's not ill, but actively goes about denying his feelings for you because he doesn't think he can allow himself to feel such things. Perturabo needs to remain objective, he can't allow for any distractions.
But you become more and more of a distraction as time goes on. And eventually, he gives in. He goes about confessing to you in perhaps the most tsundere way possible, but you happily accept the little trinket he made for you when he had a little bit of free time (which is rare for a primarch).
The thing Perturabo loves about you the most is your mind. His intelligence is perhaps one of his proudest feature, and you're able to keep up with him and even challenge him intellectually? Man is so in love.
He gives you certain privileges that not even his most trusted sons get (if there are any among the Iron Warriors). Will he admit to it? Not really. But everyone sees it.
Emperor forbid one of his brothers sees him become even a little bit soft with you around. He will be teased relentlessly and be incredibly embarrassed. The only reason he hasn't pummeled his brother is because you're there.
Perturabo's love languages are words of affirmation and quality time.
Quality time for Perturabo means both of you working at his workbench and actively engaging in conversation. Once you become his partner you are his default peer reviewer.
While he may not say it out loud, the fact that he comes to you to look over his work means that Perturabo truly values your opinion. That is something not a lot of people get from him.
But he also enjoys the idea of the two of you simply working together. He has his projects, you have yours. Perturabo will listen to you talk about whatever you're working on and may even offer you some advice (he's even nicer about it than he is with his sons).
This man feeds off of praise, which is why words of affirmation are important to him. Tell him how impressive his work is, tell him how his design is better than anything Rogal Dorn could ever imagine.
In private, he melts when you give him praise. The face that Perturabo puts on in front of his brothers and sons is very different than the one you see.
Hold his face in your hands and quietly tell him how much you love him. Perturabo has a very difficult time making connections with other people (and the fact that he made a connection with you is somewhat of a miracle). But with you, he has never felt this way about anyone else so he makes an exception.
The primarch of the fourth is a very bitter man. You take a bit of that bitterness away, and his sons definitely notice. Many of them are suspicious of your relationship with their gene sire, but most don't say anything because it isn't their business (and you seem to have a positive influence on their primarch).
Perturabo does truly love you, and that love should not be taken for granted. The two of you have a bond that the primarch will remember for as long as he is alive, long after you're gone.
Hi everyone! I had to step away for a little while because I got sick and then I unfortunately was dealing with some mental health stuff. But I'm doing much better now, which means I'll be posting again. Look forward to Peter Turbo in love headcanons sometime later this week!
Inspired by buzy-beez post that even a primarch deserves to feel girlypop 🤫
So, how would the Primarchs get their nails done?
Realistically, they'd just get a manicure and some clear lack but we're taking this one further for the sake of the tism. Assuming that they'd choose the colors of their respected legion, unless they're going for simpler designs, would imo result in their sons wanting to get their nails done as well.
Which, if you think about it, even without extensions they all have big fingers and equally big nails, would allow for more intricate designs even without giving them new shapes or hindering them in battle.
So, hey, Primarchs, introduce spa days and nail salons okay, your legions would love it!
I: Lion El'Jonson
For our first victim. I'm getting aunty vibes, he'd probably go for something more basic, say almond, rounded or a simpler square shape.
II: [Redacted] - he slayed too hard, they had to silence him
III: Fulgrim
This absolute diva is going with Stiletto and Stiletto only
IV: Perturabo
I feel like he's so constipated he'd FIGHT to keep them short, in reality he'd love longer ones tho so he can tap away on surfaces to enjoy the sound. Shape wise I'm giving him square.
V: Jaghatai Khan
Girly pop is not afraid of length, he'd prefer a shorter mountain peak or longer stilettos. I feel like he'd wear sharp nails like a king, also for some reason I feel like he'd go with natural colors
VI: Leman Russ
Stilettos or Ballerinas, also the first contestant whom I'd consider giving claws
VII: Rogal Dorn
Another contestant for short and practical so we have either that with a design or just bland gold to match the armor
VIII: Konrad Curze
... Claws, sharpened
IX: Sanguinius
Kinda swaying between a very pretty intricate design and a simpler almond one... They'd be gorgeous one way or another
X: Ferrus Manus
Uhhh, I didn't think this through I think, maybe he'd just go over where his nails would've been with a plain color? Assuming bro finds some crazy press on nails though... I feel like he'd go for some simpler square matte
XI: [Redacted] – bro outslayed the emperor, had to be taken out
XII: Angron
Going with dull and short for everybody's well being... He gets a pretty short square red though
And the winner of the poll is... Rogal Dorn! Surprising literally no one the poll was neck and neck. Perturabo is probably throwing a tantrum as we speak. A big thank you to everyone who voted, and don't think I've forgotten about Mr. Peter Turbo (his are next wink wink).
Enjoy!

To be honest, no one really though Dorn was capable of feeling an emotion such as "love". Not his brothers, not his sons, and not even the man himself. But when you entered his life that all changed.
Dorn is... blunt, to say the least. Blunt and very direct. And in the beginning he talked to you the way he talked to anyone else. He was a busy man and he had a lot of work to do.
You saw how hard he worked, how hard he fought with his legion and as the Praetorian of Terra. You also saw that he doesn't really eat proper meals (sometimes going for multiple days without one) and pretty much survives on nutri-paste and the occasional cup of recaff. Yeah... that wasn't going to fly.
The gestures started off small, you would sneak the occasional sandwich or something small. Dorn would notice it immediately when he came back from his desk, and at first he had no idea how it got there. But he did catch you after a few more times, so you decided to do it out in the open.
He didn't understand why you were doing it and told you as such. Dorn may have a hard time understanding why people do nice things for him, but you explained you didn't like seeing him survive off of nutri-paste. All he said in response was "Understood."
Nowadays you leave little things for him on an almost daily basis. And you swear you can see the tiniest smile on the Praetorian's face.
Dorn's love languages are quality time and acts of service.
The Praetorian is another primarch that does not necessarily need to engage in something together with you in order to call it quality time. He is more than content with both of you doing something in quiet, usually him working on paperwork or a blueprint and you reading or working on something of your own.
With enough convincing Rogal may be open to doing something with you. Try to find things that are engaging the two of you can do together, like puzzles for example.
We all know that he isn't the best at small talk, or really having any conversations. But he does enjoy listening to you talk about your day and your hobbies. He'll listen quietly, carefully working on connecting two pieces of a puzzle while you talk about a remembrancer you met that day.
Just like you do small things for him, he does small things for you in return. It's never a flashy or grand gesture, but rather a simple gesture that only you notice.
For example, the two of you are laying in bed and he can tell it has been a particularly long day for you. He listens to you quietly and attentively, gently drawing small circles on your back with one of his large fingers. And he offers you a small tidbit of advice.
"I don't know Rogal, all of this diplomacy is so far out of my league. Talking with all of these dignitaries and planetary governors... I feel like I can't keep up... I feel like I'm letting you down."
"You are not. Be yourself. You are kind and sincere, they will appreciate that. And if they do not I will speak with them myself."
Just like you did for him, he makes sure that you have one of your favorite snacks or drinks nearby.
In one instance, a serf was incredibly confused when Dorn requested one of your preferred drinks rather than his usual cup of recaff. When they walked in and saw you sitting in your chair (that he specifically got for you based on your specifications) it made a lot more sense.
Need help with work or some blueprint? Rogal is your guy. He is much kinder with his words when he's reviewing your work than he is with his sons or members of the Mechanicus.
Makes sure that if you're going to be engaging in diplomatic work that whatever outfit you're wearing is not only freshly steamed and ironed, but everything is laid out for you in the morning (he's often already working by the time you get up).
The Praetorian never thought he would experience this. He never thought he was capable of feeling this way. But here he is, the happiest he has ever been in his life even if his face doesn't always convey it.
He loves you so much. He will do anything to keep you safe.
Alright party people it's time for the next poll for "In Love" headcanons!
These two were tied after Sanguinius in the last poll, so now it is time to pick your favorite! If these two tie again I'll probably just flip a coin or something idk.
