Rowan stares at the piece of paper she’d been given. Something for her classes, they’d told her, but she can’t decipher it. She could speak multiple languages, and kill with ease, but she’d never been taught to read. It just wasn’t needed for a weapon like her. So this was just squiggles on a page. She sighs, frustrated.

“Excuse me,” she asks the closest person. “What does this say?”

“this is your class schedule,” birdie said after take a moment to look at the paper the other held out.

“Do you have, like, any clue why people hate crocs so much?” Dinah asked with a shrug. “They seem like perfectly functional shoes. And, uh, they look nice too.”

“it probably has something to do with everyone’s dads thinking they were the be all, end all of functional footwear and buying approximately six pairs for every member of the family in 2005... not that i speak from experience.”

zoe spent most mornings at the track field , but some mornings was a swimming day so she’d spend it by doing laps in the pools. either way , zoe barnes was an early riser and was always doing something. ‘ you’ll change the world , zo-zo , “ her mother would say. zoe got to the end of the pool after doing another lap ( they had lost count by now ). zoe came out of the water and the first thing she saw was someone standing over her. “ y’know , this is the perfect beginning to a HORROR MOVIE, “ she laughed , taking her swimmers cap off. 

birdie was a notorious early riser. most morning she would do homework or dance, but this particular morning she had decided to swim, wanting to change things up a bit. she hadn’t meant to scare the other, actually it had jumped her to see someone pop out of the water, but birdie gave a smile, “shit, i didn’t mean to scare you..”

on a normal day, birdie would be one of the most compassionate people, worried about everyone around her, but right now, she didn’t care, at all. she frankly could not give a shit about anyone’s problems. she just wanted to go back to her apartment and be alone. “see what, fabian? there’s nothing there. i don’t know what you’re seeing, but clearly it’s your problem and i can’t help you if you’re seeing things.”

“ you were a child , i - would never expect you to… “ fabian shook their head. maybe if birdie had said something then it would have prevented them from dying on THAT day but who knows , it could have happened a different way at a different time. “ thank you for telling me - but this doesn’t change anything – c’mere , “ fabian sighed and pulled their cousin into a hug. 

growing up, birdie had always looked up to fabian, not just because they were taller than her. they had been like an older sibling to her. wrapping her arms around her cousin as they pulled her into a hug, she gave them a smile. birdie felt so much relief now that she was able to tell fabian. “i’d offer to start telling you about all of my weird precognitive dreams to make up for it, but honestly, i wouldn’t do that to you.. some of them are so vague or just plain weird,” she said with a small laugh.
