Corrin tried to weave the flowers together. It took a few tries but she got the hang of it. Though while she got the hang of it the flower crowns where messy and it seemed more then flowers got in there. As small sticks and leave had made there way into the mix. “Hopefully this is right?” Corrin asked

“Hey, you’re pretty good for a first-timer!  You’re a natural!”  Elise disregards the sticks; everybody messes up a little bit their first time, right?  It would be really mean of her to yell at Corrin!  “C’mon, let’s practice some more!  See, if you weave multiple together, you can make it thicker!”  She demonstrates, even adding leaves to the mix to hide the thin stalks.  “Don’t worry if you don’t get it at first!  I had a really tough time doing it myself for a looooong time.”

Reina laughed a little.  “It took a while for him to warm to me; he was introduced to me when I first became a kinshi knight and I was told that I needed to train him.  That was quite an experience, but once we got used to each other it was a perfect match!”  Another chuckle bubbled to her lips.  “And yes, he knows he’s pretty.”

She looked at Elise and smiled.  “I’m not busy right now, and I’m sure that Komorebi will be thankful for a potion sooner rather than later.  Shall we go?”

“Wow... Y’know, I have a horse too!  Her name’s Marie, and she’s really pretty... I make sure to brush her every day, so her coat’s all shiny!”  Elise chirps.  “Father and Xander got her for me when I was a baby, though... Me riding on her back during battle just kinda happened.  I bet we’re as close as you and Komorebi are!”

“Komorebi is really pretty, and I bet he’s lots of fun to ride on!  But I wouldn’t give Marie up for anybody.  I guess you probably feel the same about him though, huh?”  She nods sagely both to Reina and herself.  What a pro-found thing to say!

“Ooh, ooh, let’s go!  I wanna make sure he’s better as fast as possible!”  Elise jumps back and forth, speeding up ahead of Reina before slowing back down again for her.  Her energy bubbles up out of her mouth.  “Who hoo!!  Hey, tell me more about Komorebi while we’re going to wherever we’re going.  Do you have any funny stories about him?”

Corrin nodded and smiled. “Alright. Its been forever since I made flower crowns. Will you teach me?” Corrin said running down with Elise to the field. She hadn’t been in a flower field since Silas took her out of the castle years ago.

“Okay!”  Elise plops down onto a grassy spot; wouldn’t wanna ruin any flowers!  “So you take a flower... and make suuuure it has a really nice stem!  And then you take another flower, and you tie them like this...”  She expertly weaves flower after flower together.  “And there you have it!  Now you do one!!”

“Whoa whoa whoa!”  Elise shouts joyfully into the crisp, fresh air, waving her arms everywhere.  “Corrin, Corrin, look!”

She points at the field of flowers suddenly coming into view.  A wide variety cluster together in some places; reds, yellows, blues, and purples all dot the landscape.  A cool breeze ruffles her pigtails.

“C’mon c’mon c’mon let’s go see them!”  She tugs insistently on her older sibling’s arm as her eyes shine, thinking about all the flowers she can pick.  She can make so many bouquets and flower crowns and flower bracelets!  Corrin and her will be completely draped in flowers by the time they leave.

“Yes, illicit is kind of just a fancy word for illegal. Though, both don’t necessarily mean that one thing is good or bad. They just refer to what is the law and what is accepted by the people.” He grinned slightly as she flexed and crowed over her new nickname. Yes, he’d decided that this might just become fun for him too, even if it’s not the illegal stuff that she thinks he’s doing with his cart.

“Your brothers are intimidating and analytical. I doubt I come up in daily conversation. So if you start mentioning me and illegal activities, even if you say I’m not doing them, they’ll come looking into me. And trust me, having royals nosing over your business looking for illegal activities isn’t exactly good for a business. I’m sure they’re both good people though.” He assured her, not wanting to ruffle any feathers.

“Whoa whoa, slow down there speed racer.” He said as she started firing off questions at him at Mach 20. “First of all, I have most of the ingredients, as I do often make candy. Secondly, we need to figure out where to get the stuff before we even think of what we need, because even if we know what we need, if we don’t know where to go well be at this for a lot longer than necessary. So first of all we need a map. Even with all my skills and random knick knacks I don’t have one. Do you know anyone who does?”

“Hmm, I guess they look big and scary to everybody else, huh?”  Elise’s innocent smile shifts to a wicked grin.  “But... I bet you didn’t know that Leo always wears his clothes inside out!  Ooh, and one time he bit into a tomato while talking, and the juice went ALL OVER his clothes!  The maids were scrubbing the stains out for the rest of the day!  And one time, Xander was training with Corrin and being mean, and he tripped straight on a piece of cloth somebody left on the floor that blended in too well.  He did a whole backflip!  It was awesome!”

“Ooh, a map...” Elise calms down after chirping about her brothers.  “Hmm... there should be a map in the strategy room.  I’m pretty sure we have extras, too.  I’ll just borrow a spare one!”

She makes for the meeting room, leaping and twirling around in excitement.  “There doesn’t seem to be anybody around...  Shhh, lemme grab it real quick!”  She holds both her pigtails so they won’t make any unnecessary noise, furtively stealing into the room and snatching one of the big maps on the table.

“Is this the right one?”  She hands the big paper to Asugi; she can’t really tell what exactly it’s of.  “Hee hee... I’ve succeeded in my amazing first assignment as a godmother!”

“A godmother is a leader of a group who’s got their nose in some illicit business. Or in your case, wants to have her nose in illicit business.” Asugi didn’t really like having to explain his nicknames as most of them were made on the fly. But all of them did have reasons, so it didn’t bother him too too much.

His lip curled up as she spoke about telling her siblings he was legal. “Or maybe don’t say anything to them at all. Because that seems suspicious, and even though I’m perfectly legally selling candy… I don’t need royals and their retainers checking up on me constantly. Especially not your brother, he’d probably stick me for any little thing he can come up with. I don’t think he likes me very much.”

Asugi unfurled the scroll and started reading it over himself, needing to figure out as well if they needed to go anywhere. “Well. It seems we first need to go out to the nearest village to get some stuff. I have lots of this already but not all of it. And some of the stuff we need is pretty important to make sure things turn out right.” Normally he wouldn’t make taffy with anyone else around because he knew how much effort it was to make, and especially to pull taffy, but he doubted he’d get the young princess off his back if he didn’t at least show her how it was made.

“I-illic-it... that means... illegal?”  Elise’s tongue stumbles over the weird word.  “Wants to have her nose in illegal business... hey, i don’t want to do anything mean or bad!  But if it’s something like this, I’d LOVE to!  Bring on the law!  I’M a godmother!!”  She flexes her mad arm muscles.

“Huh?”  She’s not sure which brother Asugi means; Xander or Leo could apply here.  “Aww, Xander and Leo are big killjoys sometimes.  Don’t worry about them!”  They’re good brothers, she thinks, but sometimes they worry too much about ‘the law’.  If they could remember to have more fun once in a while, she’s sure people would like them more.

“The nearest village, huh...  I dunno where we are, so I’ll leave that to you!”  Elise shrugs, carefree; more of her attention is focused on Asugi’s latter sentences.  “Okay, so... What do we need?  Sugar, right?  And maybe some other stuff!  Oh, and we gotta get the stuff like pans so we can cook it.  Right?  What’re we going to get first?”  Out of her mouth comes a torrent of questions as she hovers around him.

She sighed.  “He’s certainly not happy about his state right now… I wish I could do more to help him other than soothing him.”

Then she heard Elise’s offer.  “I was unaware you knew how to make potions, Princess Elise.  If you’re willing to help I’d be quite thankful.  The herbs shouldn’t be hard to find, but I know nothing about the process of making said potions.”  The potion for kinshi had always smelled to her like certain types of tea, but it contained no such thing. 

“If you’d like I can give you a list when we get back to the main camp.”  Upon hearing the princess’s question she added, “His name is Komorebi.  He’s always this docile when I’m around, so if you want to come visit again feel free to ask.”

“K-Ko... morebi...”  Elise’s tongue stumbles over the name.  “Komo...rebi.  Komorebi.  It’s a good name!  I bet he’s really happy that you’re his rider.”  She turns to the kinshi.  “Komorebi!  Let’s be friends!  You’re REALLY PRETTY!”

“Okay, leave it to me!”  She struck the most heroic pose she could think of, taught to her by Arthur.  “I’ll make sure the potion is whipped up in no time.  I’ll go back with you for the list of herbs!  If you’re not busy right now, anyways.”

“Umm...”  She pauses as she tries to keep in time with Reina.  Would it be weird if she just called her Reina?  Elise decides to do it anyways.  If it’s offensive somehow, she can apologize, right?  “R-Reina, how did you and Komorebi meet?”

Asugi nearly fell over laughing as she got all excited over something that wasn’t actually what it seemed. “Whoa whoa whoa, hold on there Godmother,” he teased, nicknaming her based on her apparent love of illicit and very illegal opportunities. “I’m not running any black market candy shop. I’m perfectly legal!”

“Mostly.” He thought, having to correct himself mentally after he spoke. He didn’t exactly have a merchants license, and usually got run out of cities but that was besides the point. “I keep a very respectable business, not some dark candy lord.”

The young ninja sighed and scratched the back of his head as he heard her proposal. “Well, I guess we could make some candy if you really really want to.” He offered his hand respectfully to her in order to help her over the stacks of books towards him. “I’m guessing taffy is first on the list of things you want to learn to make then?”

“What’s a ‘godmother’?”  Elise tips her head to the side.  She’s not a mother yet!  Or a god.  Although it would be kind of cool to be a god, because then she could just wave her arms and candy would appear whenever she wanted it to!

“Awww, it’s okay!”  Asugi does a good job of covering it up, she has to admit; he’s just like a good liar in a play.  But she can see right past him in a second.  “Don’t worry, Asugi!  I’ll make sure to tell my big siblings that you aren’t doing anything wrong!  Sometimes you have to bend the law a little bit to bring good to everybody.  I’ll make sure they don’t punish you!”

Her eyes light up at his suggestion.  “Whoa, really?  Asugi, you’re the best!  I’d LOVE to make taffy with you!”  She grabs his hand and crawls over the stacks of books.  “Oops.  These are even more messed up now because of me... Before we go make taffy, I have to fix these.”  Elise begins to stack books back up, tilting her head sideways to figure out where they’re supposed to go.  “Hey, Asugi, what are we gonna do first?  Do we need to go outside and get stuff?  I couldn’t understand what the ingredients were!”

He hadn’t meant to scare her, but it was clear he did when he saw her jump, and he groaned internally. Even if she wasn’t Hoshidan royalty, his father would still give him hell if he’d ended up freaking her out too much. He bowed his head respectfully then looked up. “Yes, I am Asugi. Sorry for my ourburst, I know it was a bit sudden.”

“Ah, yes, that’s it!” He said, noticing the scroll in her hands. Asugi was happy to know he wouldn’t have to search too hard to find it. “That one there is a bit advanced for beginners. If you’d like I’ll trade you one of my other ones that might help you more.”

Asugi frowned a bit at her idea. Normally he wouldn’t have been against someone using his stuff to make him candy, but he needed that recipe to make more for his store. “Maybe we could work on it together and I can make sure all goes well. Because, and I mean no offence to you, but it’s for my store, and I know that I can make it well, but I don’t know how well you’ll make it.”

“Huh?”  Asugi suddenly turns polite for a second, and Elise can’t figure out why; did she do something weird?  “Umm, you don’t have to be formal with me...  Don’t worry about it, okay?  Let’s be friends!”  Well, she won’t worry too much about it.  Sometimes people do that when they talk to her.

“Huuuuuh?  Whoa, a... store?”  Elise freezes, the implications of this starting to run throughout her brain.  A store that sells candy?  But Xander had never said anything about one.  Could it be...

“Asugi...”  Elise leans in, eyes wide.  “You run... a ‘black market’ shop for sweets?!  Wow!  I didn’t know those existed!”  But one of the hard books Xander liked once said something like ‘if people want something, and it’s not provided legally, then they’ll find ways to get it illegally’ and he’d told her that it was called a ‘black market’.  Just like her brother had explained to her, the army wasn’t providing any candy with the rations, so Asugi had decided to open a black market store for sweets!

“Don’t worry,” she says afterwards.  “I won’t tell my big siblings about your secret!  I really like candy too, after all.  And I think everyone’s going to be really happy about getting to eat sweets at a time like this, even if it does hurt your teeth.  I’ll be your assistant!  I’m reaaaaaally good at brewing up stuff!  Ooh, ooh, can we make a batch right now?!”

“I go by many name….but you may call me Grima…” He smiled, looking back at the flowers he gave. He smiled and looked back to a place not far from here. “I have a place…where there are very pretty flowers….if you wish, follow me…but if you would like, leave if you must. Just be careful….” The dragon then ran off into the trees, at the heart of the forest. He ran off to the edge of a gorge filled with spikes at the bottom. Naturally , he wanted to keep his place a secret so he needed to place it in a place unassailable by normal means.

“H-huh?”  Grima?  Elise hasn’t ever heard the name before, but it sounds kind of strange.  “Wait, huh?  Where are you going?!”

The stranger runs much faster than she can, with her short legs; she scrambles to follow, tripping over logs and fallen branches.  A broken one leaves a shallow thread of a cut on her arm, but she pays it no mind.

“H-hey, wait up!  Slooooow down!”  A little out of breath, she stumbles to the spot the stranger is standing.  There’s... a big valley of spikes?!

“What is this place?  ...Who are you and what’re you gonna do?!”  What if she gets thrown in there?!

Asugi was pissed. Someone had moved his taffy making book while he’d been busy. The young ninja didn’t doubt that it happened to be one of the various maids and butlers around the camp. Even though he’d told them a million times, it always seemed like they were taking his book back to the library while he was still reading. “You’d think they’d learn not to touch my stuff after all the times I’ve gotten angry at them.”

He threw open the doors to the army supply room and immediately started rustling around searching for it. He didn’t even seem to notice Elise as he dug through the various books and tomes. “Cooking taffy! Where is it?! How did it get this this lost!!” He said angrily at himself then looked up at noticed Elise.

“Oh uh… I lady Elise…”

“Whoa!  Um, aren’t you Asugi?”  Elise jumps at his outburst.  She’s seen this guy around camp before; he’s son of Saizo, that ninja, or something like that.  But she’s never spoken to him, so she’s surprised to suddenly be addressed like that.

“Oh...”  She looks at the scroll in her hands.  “Wait, is this yours?  Ohhh... Sorry!  I was just looking for some cookbook for candy... Now that I look at it, this is a Hoshidan scroll, isn’t it?”

She chews on her lip; she really should return this to him... but it took so much time and effort to find, and there might not be another one here.  But it’s his, and he probably wants it back—

“Oh, that’s it!”  Elise claps her hands together.  “Hey, I’ve got a good idea.  Hooooow about this... I borrow your scroll, and in return I make a BIGGER portion of candy for you!”  Hey, maybe she should ask his help for the ingredients too...?

Grima walked up to the girl in the bush. Instead of doing any hostility the girl believed, he only smiled from under his hood and rubbed her head as he picked her up. Not a word was said from him as he picked her up and even from his decent. Although he can speak, he was going to save his breath a bit and just shower some comfort. He also fixed the bouquet of flowers for her and gave them to her.

“Nooo!  Put me down!  Heeelp!  Stranger danger!”  Elise shouts into the forest as the stranger picks her up.  The only response she receives is the faint echo of her own voice.  Oh no, what if this person carries her off?!  She’ll never get to give her big sister the flowers now!

Her cries cut off in confusion when the person fixes up her flowers and pats her on the head.  Are they trying to throw her off so she won’t try and escape?

“Don’t try and trick me!”  She puts force behind her words, though her staff remains stationary at her side, and she takes the bouquet from him.  “Who are you, anyways?  Um... You’re going to be sorry when my siblings come for me!”

“Ugh, this is just a boring history book,” Elise mumbles as she scavenges through stacks and stacks of volumes the army keeps.  “I wish someone would organize these already!  It’s been days since the last skirmish...”

A scroll with the word cook in large letters catches her eye, and she snatches it out from a large stack, paying (almost) no mind when the stack topples.  Contents... list of recipes... there it is!

“Candy!” she exclaims, perhaps a bit too loudly.  Anyone in the vicinity would have heard her shout.  “Umm, with this I can make... this is taffy, and there’s a lot more!  Hee hee, just what I was looking for.  Now I can brew up some delicious candy for everybody!”

Her eyes scan quickly over the ingredients.  Hmm, some of these look completely foreign to her...

Reina stroked Komorebi’s head.  “Oh, I’m sorry sweetheart… I’ll get you medicine as soon as we get to the nearest town.  Just hang in there, alright?”  It seemed to be nothing more than a respiratory infection, but even the mildest could affect a kinshi’s ability to fly normally, not to mention that respiratory infections made kinshi absolutely miserable.

A voice from the other side of her kinshi made her peek around Komorebi’s head.  The second princess of Nohr was looking at Komorebi, her words indicating her pondering his ill health.  “Ah, hello Princess Elise.  I apologize that you should be meeting him in this state.  It’s been a long time since he’s caught any sort of illness.” 

She stroked the area right above his beak, hoping to soothe him, but instead she got a gob of kinshi snot on her shoe.  “Alas, I think he’s been overworked, so he caught it from…”  She shrugged.  “Honestly, I cannot claim to know how he caught it.  However, I think we’re still a day out from the nearest town, so he’ll likely remain sick a little longer…”  She sighed.  “Poor baby,” she murmured.

“Oh, no...!”  Elise inches closer, eyes fixated on the poor kinshi.  “He must be so miserable...”  She hates getting colds too; her head always aches, and she can’t heal anybody, and she starts getting snot everywhere!

Reina’s words reach her a second later when she takes her eyes off the kinshi’s shiny sad head.  “Wait, medicine?  Oh, I can help with that!  Corrin taught me to make potions and stuff!  I have a big cauldron still and everything.  If you can tell me what the ingredients are, I bet I can make it in no time at all~!”

Elise reaches out cautiously; her small hand pats the crown of the kinshi’s head.  The feathers are soft and cute.  “Don’t worry, I promise I’ll have you all better in no time at all, okay?!  I’ll make an awesome potion!  ...Ummm... what’s his name?”

"Wow, this one is sooooo pretty,” Elise gushes as she snaps the next stem in two, adding the blossom to the bundle in her hands.  “And this one is just like Big Sister’s hair!  And if I arrange them all like this, they look super pretty, and...”

She hears the sound of leaves rustling and freezes, expression drooping in an instant; she listens to the animals a lot, and they wouldn’t make a noise like that.  Too obvious!  Which means it must be an enemy soldier.

Elise holds her breath and tiptoes behind a tree trunk, refusing to let go of her precious flower bouquet.  She almost chokes at the next sight; a huge dragon!  A dragon even more dragon-y than Corrin!

Just like her sibling, the dragon shrinks down to a tall man.  She backs up to start running but forgets where she is; her leg runs right into a bush and makes a loud bush noise.

“Um, d-don’t come any closer!”  Nothing to protect herself with; she raises the staff in her hands instead.  “Or I’ll—I’ll whack you with my staff!  Yeah!”

“Kinshi are so pretty,” Elise mumbles as she stares at the one in front of her, wide-eyed.  The golden sheen of its feathers makes it look so fluffy, and the blue accents match the rest of the body well, she thinks.  And they make cute crooning noises.  Maybe one of the Hoshidans would let her ride on one, just once!

One of the kinshi to the left of her makes a choked, snot-filled noise that does not sound like a cute crooning sound.  She approaches it cautiously.

“Is he... sick?”  Another sneeze directly into a corner of the stables.  “Uh oh.  Um... hmm... I can’t heal it with a staff, so, a tonic maybe...?”  Do the Hoshidans have medicine for their kinshi when they’re sick?
