Goddess’ gaze followed Barry as he moved from one end of the room to the other shutting doors, amusement flickered in her eyes at his blush, “Well hurrah we’ve moved past your awful lying skills at least. I hope for your sake you’re never on the stand while I’m prosecuting or defending.” She chuckled, “You don’t need to worry though, there’s no one here to hear us,” she could tell that, people were like little flames to her senses. “And, I’m not here to put you away, then I couldn’t see you in that lovely little costume again,” she smirked it was fun playing with the little human, “I’m only making conversation and you decide to threaten a lady,” she pouted, “Very badly I’ll add.” 

Barry worked past her joking words and teasing comment about his suit, going straight to her comment about his threat. “What? Was it really that bad?” He asked with a frown. “I’m not very good at threats -- I don’t usually threaten anyone.” He said with a few quick shakes of his head. “I’m sorry, Charlotte. You said you were here for something?” He asked.

Wally shifted his jaw behind closed lips. It was true—the two of them had always been the heroes to bring levity to a situation. Instead of acting with the seriousness that most issues probably deserved, they made jokes. They made it seem like it wasn’t the end of the world—even if it was. That kind of optimism was difficult to maintain for a long period of time, especially when in the face of that optimism, things only seemed to be getting worse, not better. He took a slight step back, just enough to shake Barry’s hands from his shoulders, but he had obviously calmed somewhat. Barry still wasn’t getting it. “I didn’t become a criminal to run away,” he replied. “I didn’t have another choice. That’s the difference here, Barry.” 

“You can swear all you want, but the fact is still there that you disappeared on purpose. I’m not just going to be able to forgive you for that. I need time.” Wally sighed heavily. “But I don’t want to fight you anymore. I’m tired of it and I need you around.” He had never been afraid to admit that he needed other people, but it seemed especially painful to say that to Barry. Maybe it was because he was realizing now that without Barry around, everything had gotten exponentially worse. He was still just a kid. 

Wally scoffed. “I don’t want to hit you anymore, Barry,” he said. “I’m tired. I want to go home. I don’t want to think about any of this anymore.” He folded his arms over his chest, holding onto his upper arms with stiff fingers. “I just want to go home.”

Of all the things Barry had learned to deal with in his life, dealing with ‘time’ was his worst subject. He understood where Wally was coming from -- that he needed time to process and try to forgive Barry for abandoning him on a willing decision -- but it was so hard for the other to accept that things weren’t okay between them. “Okay.” Barry said quietly. “Can I at least take you home? I really don’t like the idea of you being alone in this City...” He said with a soft frown gracing his features.

The speedster tucked his hands into his pockets and ran his tongue over his teeth in thought for a few silent moments. “You have me.” He said. “Whenever, wherever. You just say the word and I will be there.” He nodded. “And the random deposits of money into your bank accounts, or the sudden arrival of groceries at your doorstep aren’t going to stop. I’m going to keep pouring things on you, probably until we’re both in our eighties and zipping around the retirement home.” He stated.

“Wow,” Larry drawled, popping up from where he was sleeping on the bus (he hadn’t been able to find a place live yet) and looking out the window at the lightning bolts that scattered around the man nearby. “And here I thought all of you were fans of the law. Unless that’s like, something you pick and choose about.” He gestured vaguely, as if to represent their indecision. Larry brought his knees up and rested his elbows on them, watching the man for a moment longer before looking up and down the street. “Anyone catch that?”

The bus was one of the many means of travel Barry decided to take when he felt the need to ‘blend in’. That still didn’t mean he didn’t take advantage when the bus came to a stop if he needed to. He had zipped off at the previous stop to stop a purse snatcher before he could pull off the heist, and was back in his seat when the man sat up and spoke. Barry looked around some and leaned over to him. “You okay? Kind of talking crazy talk there. Didn’t see anything.” He chuckled.

“Oh, I’m sorry – didn’t realize anyone was waiting on me. I am slow as–” He stopped talking once the woman stepped forward and spoke to him bluntly. His breath caught in his throat and he coughed slightly. “What??” He asked, doing a few quick checks that any of the officers nearby hadn’t heard what she said. “I don’t quite follow what you mean? And I certainly don’t wear spandex in public.” He cleared his throat, trying to salvage the conversation now that he recognized who she was. Oh, boy… His brain groaned.

Goddess simply stared at the boy (even the eldest of humans often seemed like younglings to her) and blinked slowly, “Yes you did, it was red and gold and clung to you very nicely but it didn’t cover your eyes, they’re giving you away.” she said, raising a hand and pointing at them, “Also, fun fact about lawyers, we can scent lies like a bloodhound.” she told him lightly. Even if she as only wearing the body of a lawyer she’d learned enough to play the part very well and it was easy to spot how unnerved he was.

Barry tightened his jaw and quickly closed the doors to his lab. He ignored the redness in his cheeks from her comments on how the spandex fit him and instead walked over to her. "Look, okay yes that was me. You can't just be saying that out loud though. I would lose my job and they would try to arrest me." He frowned. "If you are here to prosecute me, I won't go quiet... And I am out of the range of our stations dampeners.." He frowned. He didn't like threatening people, but he wanted to be clear with her since she was a lawyer.

“Charming as always detective, I’ll just get the evidence from the labs myself.” Goddess rolled her eyes and squashed the urge to flick the pathetic little human into the nearest wall, sadly not all the detective’s could be as fun to mess with as Detective Murphy. She strode into the forensic lab and waited for a tech to appear and get the evidence she required, but when the door opened she paused a moment, assessing the man who’d walked in.

Goddess stepped closer and looked him over before bluntly stating, “Flash?” and raising an eyebrow, “Figures a hero would have a job in law enforcement. Though I have to say you look much more muscular in the spandex than you do now.” she added dryly.

“Here’s those reports you need, Captain. Sorry about the delay, but I made up for it by taking care of all of them at once.” Barry pleaded with the woman before setting a thick folder of paperwork on her desk and nodding himself out the door. He let out a small sigh and put on his usual smile as he made his way through the station and towards the hallway leading to the forensic labs. “Hey, nice work with taking down those armed assailants the other day.” Barry offered to a pair of officers he passed.

“Uh…” Well, now it was time for Cullen to think on his feet. Thankfully, he was decent at it. He fell into step behind the man, shoving his hands into his pockets. “I don’t - I mean, I don’t think so. What happened? What was the incident?” His gaze darted around the scene, but it was impossible to get any information based on just what was visible. He looked back at the man and frowned. “Are you a cop?”

Barry let out a quiet breath. “There was a struggle and it left one person dead. We’re still trying to piece together what exactly happened and figure out any leads on who the killer was.” Barry explained as much as he could. He cracked a smile at the boy’s question. “No. Well, sort of. I’m a forensic specialist with the police. So, not really an officer.” He explained.

The only thing that brought Cullen even close to a scene like this was the mutant that had tipped them off. He’d shown up to see if there were any other injuries, but he hadn’t expected to run into any officers. He acted surprise and lifted his hands, playing to his youthful appearance. “Sorry… wait, what? A crime scene? What happened? Shit, man, I just left my friend here a little while ago…”

Barry frowned at the male and flagged one of his coworkers down to finish up as he rose to his feet, walking over to Cullen. “Hey, walk with me.” He said quietly before continuing. “What can you tell me about your friend? Do you know if he may have been involved in this incident?” He asked. He couldn’t really go around showing the bodies off to anyone, but information he could work with.

“Yeah, I thought you would have heard. I got shot in the face and everything.” He paused. “Well, not the face. The chest. I still think that’s particularly traumatic.” He poured himself another drink. “It’s fine. All of it is fine. At least, it will be.” He pressed his lips together for a moment, looking down in his glass. “You know the tech came from Kord? It’s from Ted.”

“Holy shit, man...” Barry said, frowning a deep frown and looking him over. “I’m glad you’re back with us, but damn...” He said, shaking his head and taking a shot of his concoction. He hissed and coughed some at Oliver’s news. “Ted made those dampeners? There’s some kind of explanation for that, right? Right?” He asked.

“I’m mad at everything, but I’m especially mad at you.” Wally pointed an accusing finger in his face. “You cannot put this on me. You know that the last time I got lost in the speed force, I got fucked up. It’s not my fault you were a fucking coward.” 

Wally threw his hands up in the air, unable to find the words to articulate everything that he was feeling and everything he wanted to say to Barry. He slowly felt his anger start to dissipate, as it was wont to do, as it always did. He wasn’t done sorting through everything, but he knew he couldn’t keep pushing Barry away out of his own petty anger and hurt feelings. He pressed his lips into a tight line and took a couple of steps back. He was quiet for too long.

“You convinced me that you were going to be around last time, too,” he said. His voice didn’t have the anger from before anymore. He was just tired. Dejected. He had been pushed down so thoroughly, his face shoved in the dirt as the city turned to be made of bullies and he was just lonely. He pursed his lips. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore. I don’t know what I’m supposed to say. I’m just—” He scoffed, looking down. “I don’t know.”

Barry was quiet for a while, waiting for Wally to speak. Once he had said what he needed to, the man walked over and lightly put a hand on Wally’s shoulder. “I know it’s hard, Wally...” Barry spoke quietly. “Clark can literally move mountains; Bruce broods with his boys; Diana provides voices of reason to everyone. You and I, though? We’re the ones that always come off like we have everything figured out -- always joking around, keeping things lighthearted. We don’t know what to do when the world turns on us. You fell into petty crimes; I ran into the one place the world couldn’t get to me.” Barry spoke, trying to provide any sort of comfort he could muster for the other.

“I don’t know what you’ve been through, but I know it had to have been horrible for someone like you to lose your way. Listen to me though, really listen,” Barry stated and moved to stand in front of Wally -- placing hands on both his shoulders now. “I swear to you; swear on my mother’s grave; that I will never abandon you like that, ever again. You are my family and running from my family is the worst mistake I’ll ever make.” He stated with a quiet frown.

He suddenly dropped his hands and took several steps back from him. “So, hit me. Let out all of your pent up frustration and anger. I’ll recover and maybe it’ll help you to take it out on someone that’s wronged you, before it eats you up and sends you spiraling somewhere worse than car jacking.”

Wally stood up and paused for just a split second as he looked at Barry before he used his speed to zoom forward and shove him hard in the chest with both hands. “How dare you judge me like this? You have no right. This is just what we went through, Barry, I don’t care what you think of me, not anymore.” 

He shifted his jaw with a deep frown on his features, taking a deep breath and letting out in a sharp exhale. 

Blinking a few times, he tried not to take Barry’s words too personally, but he couldn’t help but get angry. “Well, it’s not enough,” he spat. “It’s not enough, okay? You were gone and you don’t get to fucking come back and pretend like nothing happened. I—I relied on you and you were gone.” 

Wally rubbed a hand down his face. “My parents don’t talk to me anymore. They hate me for who I am and what I am. I’ve been fired from my last three jobs because of this. You were all I had and you disappeared. I’m not obligated to forgive you.”

Barry saw Wally start to move, but he did nothing to retaliate as the other shoved into him. The Scarlet Speedster soared backwards a few yards before landing hard on his back with a groan, listening to Wally tear into him. Barry sat up, slowly climbing to his feet and shaking his head.

“Are you really solely mad at me leaving, Wallace, or are you taking out your anger at what you’ve resorted to on me?” Barry asked him quietly -- tone neither angry nor leering. “Let me ask you this... did you ever once stop to think about looking for me? You’re a Speedster, Wally. We have some of the most unrestricted access to the world - past, present, and future.” Barry said. “I’m not defending myself in the slightest, but I am trying to make this right.”

“I am sorry about your parents. I’m sorry about your job and that you’re being ridiculed and outcast by your abilities. I may not have been there for you then, but I am here now and nothing is going to take me away from you ever again, Wallace.” Barry stated, pointing his finger to the ground as if to make the point more firmly.

Ollie shrugged. “I can’t say much. I was dead for two years. It’s not like I was much help.” Ollie nodded and lifted his glass slightly at Barry before tapping it against the counter then downing his drink like it was a shot. He wrinkled his nose in disgust as the liquor burned his throat before coughing and putting the glass down. 

“School zones. That’s a funny one.” He didn’t laugh, though. “That tech fucked Connor up,” he said, pursing his lips and tapping his finger against his glass. “I don’t know how it works but it’s doing some creepy shit.”

“Wait, hold up.” Barry said, choking down a drink as Oliver spoke. “Dead? For two years? Damn dude, what exactly did I miss while I was gone...?” He frowned. “I’m sorry.” He added with a quiet sigh. He nodded slightly about the Connor situation and the dampening tech. “It’s dangerous, is what it is. The word on the street is the city is gearing up to give that tech to every law enforcement agent in the City -- and if that’s true, we won’t be able to do much of anything if the police are involved...” He said.

Wally didn’t look at Barry. “I don’t want your money,” he said, focused entirely on what he was doing until he heard the lock pop open. He stood up straighter and looked at him. “I don’t know what you want from me. I’m not Kid Flash anymore, I’m not your sidekick. And you made it very clear that I’m not very high up on your list of priorities when you disappeared.” Wally shifted his jaw. “I tried to be cool about it, but I can’t. I just can’t.” He wanted to push it aside when he saw Barry just because he had missed Barry so much, but he couldn’t let it go.

Barry was quiet as Wally shot down his offer to give him money, watching him work on the car and pop its lock. He shook his head slowly, letting the other speak before doing so in turn. “No, you’re not Kid Flash. You’re not my sidekick anymore, you’re right.” He agreed, but raised his gaze to the other. 

“But you’re starting to remind me of Thawne, honestly. The less-than-noble acts, the anger with me...” He shook his head.

“I get you’re mad; but it’s like you aren’t even trying these days. I’ve tried to offer you money so you can stop this breaking-and-entering thing you have going on; so I don’t have to stop you myself like we do other criminals. I don’t know what to do with us Wally. You don’t think I beat myself up enough about leaving in the first place as it is?” He asked. 

“No one was on any list of priorities. I was selfish and only thought of myself -- but if I didn’t care about you or anyone, why the Hell would I have come back here? Why would I have left the timeline intact while I was in the Speed Force? I love you guys, that never changed. And I want to make up for leaving.”

“Yeah, haven’t you heard? We’re all turning our livers into shoe leather as protest against our new fascist regime,” he said, wrinkling his nose at what Barry said. “I don’t know, dude, I thought running away was more your style now.” He paused, seeming serious for a moment before he looked up with a shit-eating grin. “Too soon for jokes?” 

Oliver rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, whatever, it was a joke,” he replied, taking down two glasses and pouring himself a generous measure of whiskey. He hopped up onto the counter and holding his glass out to clink against Barry’s. “To living in a neo-fascist nightmare, am I right?” 

Barry let out a heavy sigh but shook his head. “No, it’s cool Oliver. I deserved that one.” He said, waving his hands lightly. He chuckled to himself as he poured some of the liquor the archer had brought and added a slosh of his special mixture to it, swirling it a moment before clinking the glasses together. “To this nightmare.” He said and downed the liquid with a breath.

“Maybe I should run away again. I mean, it’s a lot of work having to actually plan where I’m running now because of the ‘school zones’ those agents wear on their belts.” He joked.

“Ok, maybe they’re not so much groceries as, like—a lot of liquor. But I also figured you might not want to leave the house.” He left a lone box of pasta on the counter before lining up bottles. “Yeah? Because they’ve stopped me. I barely go out anymore. You’re fucking insane for getting out there,” he said, jerking his thumb over his shoulder. “You have any glasses? I figure I’m the only one drinking because of your whole metabolism thing. Though, I’m sure we could find some rubbing alcohol if that’s what it’s going to take,” Oliver added as he started rummaging through Barry’s cabinets.

Barry let out a soft laugh. “Liquor? Just what the doctor ordered, I suppose.” He remarked jokingly before raising an eyebrow at the number of bottles the archer lined up. “I don’t think it is insane. I think it is doing what I can and not giving a damn about these agents.” He stated. “I stay careful; and I stay moving.” 

He let out a small scoffing laugh. “Rubbing alcohol? Come on, Ollie, you should know I’ve compensated over the years with my metabolism.” He stated and dug through a couple of cabinets before pulling out a small bottle of his own. “Specially brewed for speedsters.” He chuckled and sat it alongside the others while he pointed to a cabinet near Oliver. “Glasses in there.”

Wally hadn’t seen Barry and he wasn’t really intending on seeing Barry, either. He wasn’t sure where they stood, but while Wally had tried to brush off his anger, he just couldn’t. He was furious that Barry had just disappeared, had just pretended that none of them mattered and fucked off into the speed force. Wally had been trapped in the speed force before—but he would never consider it an escape. That had been nothing short of cowardice. Wally was back to ripping off cars as a result, and again, Barry caught him with a slim jim snaked through the crack in the window of a puke green sedan. “What do you want, Barry?” 

Barry wasn’t sure what to do when it came to Wally. He wanted to give the speedster space, but at the same time he wanted to beg him to tell him how to fix their relationship. Barry hated being on the outs with Wally. As Barry walked up onto the scene, he let out a quiet sigh as he saw Wally had fallen back onto ripping off cars. “Did I... not leave enough money for you...?” He asked quietly, but kept his gaze off the other. “I’ll put some more into your account.”

Eyes moved back to her phone as she finished the sentence she was typing before locking her phone. A smile appeared on her lips as she glanced up to the man. “I’m fine. Just a bit hungover.” Not true but it beats saying to a stranger, ‘oh yeah, I was out stealing.’ 

Barry gave a soft laugh. “Hangovers suck.” He spoke as if he had personal experience in the matter, even though he’d never suffered through a hangover that he could really remember. “Supposedly lots of water and Advil are supposed to help with some of the hangover. Maybe suck on a lemon or something??” He remarked, but kept a small smile on his face.
