One thing I actually really wish people would understand is that telling copinglinkers that they aren’t kin is not the same as telling them that their experiences are not valid. I have no idea where the connection came from that “this is not kin” means “this is not real”.

What the statement “this is not kin” means:

“You have vastly different experiences and circumstances, therefor you would benefit from having your own community and terminology”

“Please stop taking our preexisting terminology and twisting its definitions until they suit your usage”

“Respect the differences in our experiences and stop insisting that all of us are experiencing the same thing and that our terminology means whatever random thing you want it to”

What the statement “this is not kin” does not mean:

“Your experiences are fake and invalid, bye”

It’s not fake. It’s not invalid. It’s just not kin.
