I talked a bit in my reblog on how the people who talk about this fail to properly analyze why the hivemind is so harmful to EVERYONE as a whole. I dabbled on how Hispanic culture, from my experience growing up in the USA in a STRONGLY culturally tied (Salvadoran) immigrant family, is very much about friendly banter and rude gestures as signs of comradery. but also I think a lot of people fail to understand that the Pluribus themselves dissolve culture.
My dad grew up living in a very "ranchero rural" type life. His family has taken care of a piece of land with fruits and animals, from horses to chickens and I believe bulls too? That is the pride and joy of my dads side of my family. They tended to that land with a deep passion. I went to my moms families house when I was 6 and I ate a chicken from the chicken coop for dinner once and it was honestly fantastic. Through conversations with my dad I found out a lot about my families history and our culture as Salvadorans and I sorta realized while watching that...its weird that these people act like killing animals or keeping pets is an inherent cruelty. That these people think owning a land like this is cruel. That Kusimayu scene was genuinely heartbreaking but the goat being abandoned despite being so clearly loved and cared for because "keeping animals is cruel' reads to me too like the Others dont really recognize the inherent love of a rural persons tie to their livestock and our thankfulness for their death (even when we cook them). Which in of itself makes me feel like I am witnessing the death of a individual CULTURE as well. Its all just a mass of "People" instead.
Sure, mourn the animal all you want while acting all Pure and Kindly and cooking the most Ethical food but honestly...like, this sheer abandonment of clearly-beloved livestock all for the sake of being "peaceful" (in a weirdly Western imperialist "we come in peace to liberate you from your savage old ways" type way) is Frightening from the perspective of being colonized and assimilated into a monolith, and whats even more frightening is that it seems as if people fail to comprehend that us people and descendants of people from third world countries, developing countries, the Global South or what have you would Not fucking want the Joining to happen either. We actually like our distinct cultures? Thanks? (And its insane to see seemingly typically White Pluribus fandomites act as if Carols resistance to it has to ONLY be because of Evil American hyperindividualism when theres so many damn reasons why someone would be like NOPE)

It was kind of a joke between me and a friend ("you wouldn't judge someone for having gone rock climbing with a bunch of different people") but honestly the more I thought about it the more I bought into it unironically because:
It is a physical activity done with one or more partners
You should only go rock climbing with people you trust to not let you fall
You should not go rock climbing with someone who is drunk or currently incapable of rational decision-making
Some people get super super super into rock climbing and do not shut up about all the places they have climbed and how many are left on their bucket list and these people are usually men between the ages of 20 and 35 and like it's fine dude I'm glad you're happy but I don't know what most of those mountains even are
While many consider it a fun activity, pressuring someone into climbing when they don't want to (or ignoring their feelings and just dangling them off a cliff,) could cause both psychological and physical trauma
There is no moral value to it whatsoever. Who you have gone rock climbing with (or whether you have rock climbed at all) has no bearing on who you are as a person. Imagine telling someone "it's not that heights make you nauseous, it's just that you haven't found the right person to belay you!" or "you need to save your first time rock climbing for someone special." That would be absurd.
For some people it is a deep and moving personal experience.
historically I have not asked myself "will this aggravate my hip flexor injury" before participating when perhaps I should have 😔
Years. Years this post has been up. Every few weeks it takes out my notes again. My cousin's girlfriend sent it to my cousin. Hundreds of people have said "harnesses :)". I've gotten one weird pro lifer. And you are the first person to notice this. Including me. It was an accident. I'm so mad. It would have been so funny if I'd done it on purpose.
