Better Call Saul is such a good prequel, because Nacho Varga is retroactively haunting the fuck out of the narrative of Breaking Bad despite only being offhandedly mentioned once. Basically every major plot point that isn’t just Walter’s midlife crisis can be traced back to him. Like, Domingo’s whole everything in season 1, Walter and Jesse even meeting Saul in the first place (Jesse knew Saul through Emilio who probably was introduced to him by Domingo, who knew him because of Nacho), them getting involved with gus (Mike knows gus because he got involved with the Salamancas through Nacho) (and Saul only got deeply involved enough with the underworld and Mike bc Nacho introduced him to Lalo), some of Mike’s character motivations (especially in regards to Jesse), hell even Walt witnessing the raid in episode one (Domingo is Hank’s snitch, bc nacho got saul to be his lawyer), and probably some other stuff too but I just started season 6.

look, i get the temptation to only ever post your own stuff and talk about it. you’ve made something that has you in a chokehold; of course you want to scream about it. that part is genuinely cool.

but to me, the core of fandom has always been community, engaging with other people’s works, their headcanons, their interpretations, their experiments. fandom doesn’t really function as a one-way broadcast.

and sure, interacting with others’ creations can feel like a burden when you’re writing fic yourself, especially with time and energy being limited. still, i think it’s essential. fandom doesn’t really work if everyone is only speedrunning their own output, only ever talking about their own work and never touching anyone else’s. and even small things count like a comment, a reblog. you obviously don’t have to commit to reading everyone’s longfic and writing 1k-word comments on every chapter.
