So everything just meant…nothing???
I kind of just feel numb rn. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch the show again without thinking about how they failed both Will and Mike.
Soon, byler doubt won’t even cross the lion’s mind
It’s been a pleasure going crazy together 💛💙
See you on the other side 🫡
I’m hopping onto the Byler Express one last time.
Destination: Byler Endgame
Time Until Arrival: 19 1/2 hours
The journey has been rough so far, but my prediction is that the destination will be worth it
jonathan helping will get what he wants. robin mentoring more than one person. mike’s emotional monologue. will being an unreliable narrator when it comes to mike. noah had the most scenes with finn. robin and mike being closer in ep7. the painting will “pay off”. mil*ven still dust. “friends don’t lie”. robin saying by coming out to steve she had the courage to open up to vickie. will coming out. byler field scene vs jopper field scene. finn carrying emotional weight. mike realizing that will was talking about him. there’s a plot twist in the finale. still no direct denying of byler. will still having hope in shock joke. avalanche metaphor. will convinced himself that mike is his tammy. vickie and mike parallels. mike being the one to interrupt joyce and will. still no confirmation that mil*ven is together. mike liking the butthole surfers—a band named after an offensive term for homosexual men. mike robin and jonathan funko pops being arranged near each other. the duffers saying the show was made to be analyzed. hap-satisfied. how obvious?. the writers favorite ship being korrasami who got together in the finale. mike’s pov is still hidden. will’s feelings for mike are still a secret. mike keeps bringing up the entire party. mike and will being considered a pair this season. mike is now aware of will’s sexuality. “how did you know that vickie wanted to date?” and “after this tammy and this whole tape epiphany, is that when you and vickie started to?”. jancy’s s4 issues being brought up again giving space for the painting to show up. the finale has the most character moments and the most emotion. IT’S NOT OVER TILL IT’S OVER!!
How we feeling after volume 2???
So I didn’t get as much byler content as I wanted, but I still think they’re endgame. I’m kinda worried it’ll feel a bit rushed though??
Idk 🤷♀️
All I know is I still have hope. I’m going down with this ship, idc Idc IDC-
This is gonna be my last post before volume 2 comes out. I’ve had an amazing time with you guys and I can’t wait to find out that we were right all along !!
See you on the other side 🫡
Something that I don’t see a lot of people talk about is that Noah literally criticized Mike’s character writing?? I think both Noah and Millie have criticized certain things about the show before (Millie said she thought that not enough main characters have died, while Noah talked about Will being sidelined in season 4), however I think there’s a difference there.
This video was literally promotional material, which we know the Duffers have a hand in thanks to Maya. Interviews are obviously promotion too, but I feel like those are different than the rewatch series, which was clearly more professional/put together than your average interview. Anyway, Noah said, “He was like, such a great friend to him in season 2, and then I don’t know what happened here.” It’s a common critique of Mike’s character amongst the fans that he became really unlikeable in the 3rd season, so I just don’t know why they’d leave that in if they’re not planning to address it in season 5 🤷♀️
I’ve noticed that oftentimes when Mike gets into arguments with El/Will, he’ll get called out on his bullshit and say, “That’s not true!” It happens 3 times, dude. So, I basically just want to go through those scenes and analyze them. Okay, here we go:
This is the first conversation they had after the incident at Rink-O-Mania where El hit Angela in the face with a skate. He reacted poorly and after he denies being afraid of her (he’s clearly lying), he stutters through trying to come up with an explanation for why he reacted so badly. He’s lying here and I don’t think El was buying it. I don’t even know if he had himself convinced tbh.
Okay, let’s move on the the infamous rain fight scene.
Will is upset here because Mike has been acting uninterested in DND and has been mainly focused on El and their relationship. Will feels ignored and finally snaps at Mike after he and Lucas don’t take him seriously when he attempts to DM a game of DND. The way I see it is that Mike thinks he’s being honest here because he doesn’t think he’s ruining anything. If we’re viewing Mike’s character through the lens of him suffering from internalized homophobia, that would mean this is him trying to conform by rejecting his childish desires (wanting to play DND). It’s clear that in this scene he associates growing up with liking girls, so we can assume that he views his feelings for Will as something that he can/needs to grow out of. In a way, he probably feels a responsibility to have a girlfriend and to a certain extent, ignore Will and what he really wants to do. So I don’t think he’s intentionally lying, but I do think that he is lying. I mean, things are definitely not the same. Alright, let’s talk about the gay ass Rink-O-Mania fight.
Mike says that Will “basically sabotaged the whole day” because he was ignoring him… Will then expresses to Mike that he felt like a third wheel the whole day. And Mike just walks away??? Don’t pmo. Trying to act like you don’t care after you just let it slip you’ve been watching Will the entire day…
🤨
And there’s homosexual yearning??
Will: “Well, what about us?”
Mike:
Have you ever seen yearning like this from someone who’s NOT a lesbian??
After Mike denies being disinterested in Will, Will acuses him of only calling a couple times over the course of a year (it was like 6-8 months; these gays are so dramatic). We know from Dustin that he actually called much more than that, but Joyce was using the phone because of her job. And we know he wasn’t trying to contact El because they communicated with Dustin’s Cerebro and letters. So, we know for a fact that he was being genuine when said he wasn’t uninterested in Will. It’s intriguing to me that he doesn’t mention he tried to call Will a lot more. I think it’s because he doesn’t want him to know how much he really cares?? Anyway, in this fight he’s being honest, but Will doesn’t necessarily believe him because Mike doesn’t tell him the whole truth. Okay, that’s it. I hoped you enjoyed reading this !! 💙💛
Byler endgame is so close. I’m gonna be sick (in a good way).
In honor of there only being 24 hours left until byler becomes canon…
Here’s a slideshow I made before volume 1 came out all about byler parallels:
Unsupported client – Canva
(It hasn’t been updated with anything from volume 1 btw).
If you check it out, let me know what you think. I’d love some feedback !! 💙💛
It doesn’t matter if they’re surrounded by dead bodies…
Trust and believe that Michael Queerler will be looking (homosexually) at his man
The sign had to be moved since the closet’s been destroyed 🤷♀️
Also, I’m going to be posting something every 7 hours until volume 2 drops because I’m mentally ill 😌
okay but FIRST. let’s set the scene.
welcome to biased journalism in 2025, a thriving ecosystem where headlines are written by engagement metrics, nuance is considered a fire hazard, and “some guy answering a question normally” is framed like an attack on an entire demographic.
this isn’t your 2009-era bias where a newspaper quietly leaned left or right. no. this is algorithm-fed, fandom-powered, outrage-optimized journalism, and it is deeply unserious.
⸻
what biased journalism looks like in 2025
in 2025, bias isn’t usually loud or ideological. it’s structural.
it shows up as:
• emotionally loaded headlines
• selective quotes that strip context
• “fans react” sections built from three tweets and a dream
• framing that implies conflict where none exists
• urgency where there is none (“adds to doubt”, “sparks backlash”, “breaks hearts”)
the goal is no longer to inform.
the goal is to provoke.
because outrage:
• keeps people scrolling
• fuels quote tweets
• turns articles into discourse hubs
• boosts ad impressions
truth is optional. engagement is not.
okay. so. let’s talk about this article.
you know the one.
the one that reads like it was written by a sentient push notification whose sole mission is to start fandom discourse few days before christmas.
because besties. this post has “manufactured outrage” written all over it in size 72 comic sans.
the VIBES are off immediately
first red flag:
“Stranger Things star adds to doubt over ‘Byler’”
adds to doubt???
ADDS????
as if doubt is some sort of community soup that the cast members are taking turns seasoning.
gaten mataratzo did not walk into an interview twirling his mustache going, “ah yes. today i shall crush the gays.” he answered a question about fan theories. FAN. THEORIES. plural. casually. like a human person.
but the headline frames it like he personally unplugged the rainbow.
selective quoting: journalism’s favorite party trick 🎩✨
biased journalism 101:
take a nuanced quote
remove its context
slam it into a headline
add fandom buzzwords
stir until engagement spikes
the article zooms in on:
“I see them as just very good friends”
and then immediately skips over the part where he talks about:
• queer youth experiences
• emotional repression
• the pain of loving a friend who can’t love you back
• how that story can be powerful without romance
but nope. that doesn’t fit the “CAST DISMISSES QUEER LOVE” narrative, so into the journalistic void it goes.
if you have to ignore half the quote to make your argument work, you don’t have an argument.
“I find the Byler stuff very funny” okay but like… why is it funny 😭
because last time I checked, people hoping for queer rep that has been actively set up in the show isn’t a joke?
That’s suspicious…🤔
and listen. I know he probably didn’t mean it like that. I truly do. but the way it comes off is very much “lol fandom is silly” when in reality this ship:
• didn’t come out of nowhere
• is based on actual canon moments
• and means a LOT to a lot of queer people
like sorry we watched the show with our eyes?? god forbid we saw subtext and emotional storytelling and went “huh. that feels gay.”
it just feels kinda bad when something that’s genuinely important to queer fans gets brushed off as “funny” or “just a crush” or “just a silly little ship.” because to me will isn’t casually crushing — that boy is IN LOVE. capital letters. italics. underline.
even if byler never becomes canon, cool, fine, whatever. but treating it like we’re stupid or delusional for seeing it as a real possibility is just… :// not great!
I hate when the cast members downplay Will's love and call it a crush.
okay no because let’s actually laugh about it for a second or we’ll scream.
HAHAHAHA.
so funny.
people hoping for queer rep on one of the biggest shows ever = comedy gold apparently 😐
like yes king, hilarious. side-splitting. absolutely peak humor.
meanwhile—AND THIS IS WHERE I START SQUINTING—
a crackship. a fully unserious, never-happening, vibes-only ship like Eddie/Steve gets a cute little “aww Dustin would be supportive 🥺” moment.
but Byler?
the MOST popular ship in the fandom.
built on YEARS of canon moments, subtext, dialogue, framing, literal confirmed feelings on one side?
that’s “very funny” and “just friends” and “not canon” 😬
oh that’s not suspicious at ALL. totally normal. nothing to see here folks.
and like… you’re telling me:
• crackships = fun, harmless, encouraged
• queer ship with narrative weight = joke, dismissed, downplayed
hmm. interesting. fascinating even. 🧐
especially when this is said before volume 2, while fans are literally waiting to see how things resolve. like idk man, maybe don’t casually go “yeah that’s not happening lol” when:
1. the show isn’t finished
2. the writers haven’t said that
3. fans are deeply invested
4. you’re potentially spoiling or at least discouraging half the audience
because let’s be real: some people WILL stop watching if they feel mocked or written off. that’s just how fandom works.
emotional manipulation disguised as reporting
biased journalism in 2025 loves feelings.
not understanding. not clarity.
feelings.
anger. betrayal. disappointment. rage.
“fans’ hearts breaking”
“hopes dampened”
“unbridled fury”
these aren’t observations. they’re instructions.
the reader is being told how to feel before they’ve even finished the paragraph.
bias by omission (the quietest kind)
the most dangerous bias in 2025 isn’t what’s said — it’s what’s left out.
a full quote becomes a sentence.
a thoughtful explanation becomes a soundbite.
context becomes inconvenient.
journalists know most readers:
• won’t watch the original interview
• won’t look for the full transcript
• will react to the headline alone
so the article becomes the story, not the source.
this is how:
• nuance disappears
• intent is misrepresented
• people are pitted against each other for clicks
final verdict 🧑⚖️
is the article technically reporting something that was said?
sure.
is it framing that something in the most dramatic, fandom-baiting, emotionally manipulative way possible?
absolutely yes.
this isn’t journalism. this is:
• clickbait cosplay
• discourse farming
• “let’s quote three angry tweets and call it cultural analysis”
and honestly? gaten mataratzo did not deserve to be turned into the villain of a story he wasn’t telling.
anyway.
drink water.
log off twitter.
remember that tumblr taught us better media literacy than half of entertainment journalism.
How many times do you guys have to be told not to listen to what the actors say before you actually listen??
We’re only two days away from volume 2 bro 😭😭
I’m begging you guys to pick yourselves up off the floor
guys for the love of god every time an actor opens their mouth you guys have byler doubt. remember that byler not being canon would be a waste and they were built up a lot. the cast can't say to our faces that they're going to be canon if byler endgame is part of the plot jeez
“when will has a feeling it means something” so if he’s asking Robin about how to read the signs because something is making him feel like mike reciprocates his feelings IT MEANS SOMETHING
Mike Deserves Byler, Too
When you take off the blue and yellow glasses, put aside sexuality at all, and look at what is presented to us in the show about Mike Wheeler’s character, Byler (ending up with Will) is STILL a better (more perfect, if you will) ending for his character than ending up with Jane or ending up single.
There are several reasons why.
Yessss. Mike deserves happiness too 😌
