Byron Bay Indy Music Startup May Define The Future Of Indy Music
Is Earz The Next Evolution Of People Powered Music Distribution?
tl;dr Please support this important Kickstarter project, it’s most likely the next evolution of fan supported Indy Music.
The Music Industry Is Powered By The Passion Of Fans.
Music Lovers, we drive miles for a gig, we wait in line, we buy the CD or we buy the T-shirt. We do it because we want Indy Musos to make more. More music, more experiences, more unforgettable nights, more mad dancing, more concerts, more gigs, more festivals.
And it feels good. It feels like there is a direct link between our support and more good being put out into the world.
We the fans make that happen!
We give our attention, our cash, our texts to friends “Meet you at the gig :)", we pack chairs and put up posters and show our support in a million other tiny ways.
And it feels good. It certainly feels better than giving our money to a faceless multinational that makes a business out of squashing talent into a surreal sausage machine that poops out mp3s.
I know the labels have done a lot for the industry, but they are also responsible for atrocities. Crimes against music.
Meet Earz
Earz is a Mullumbimby based startup that has launched a Kickstarter campaign. The crowdfunding campaign will fund the development of peer distributed Indy Music discovery app, platform and marketplace.
Think of it like taking a major record label and shattering it into a million pieces and you can own one little piece.
Earz is an app that allows you to share the music you love with the people who love you. Your friends and your natural network.
The artists you discover and enjoy get a wider audience through you sharing music with the people you know. Some of the audience may enjoy the music and decide to purchase it through the Earz app.
The artist’s receive 75% - 90% of the revenue and you as the sharer may qualify for some rewards or cash.
It truly is people powered music distribution. An Indy platform for an Indy Music revolution.
Don’t Let The Man Get His Hands On This
There are only two ways I can see this failing.
1): Venture Capitalists get a hold on this before the community and the founders are strong enough to control the direction of the business.
2): The Earz idea doesn’t get enough traction (i.e. enough people onboard) to have an impact.
We can do something about that.
You and I can back this project on Kickstarter and share it with friends.
This Is iTunes For The People By The People.
Imagine if iTunes was a Co-op owned by artists and fans.
We may have a chance to do that with Earz. But we, the music lovers have got to get in on the ground floor and get involved.
We’ve got to take ownership, so we can build a music distribution platform that’s good for artists, fans and us.
Please Check Out The Kickstarter.
Even if you can’t afford to back the Earz Kickstarter, please share it with among your friends. This is our moment to build a fairer, more dynamic music industry.
