“First up was the incredible Robyn Gair. Local musos will already know Robyn not only for their exceptional talent, but also for the support they constantly give to the local music scene.

As for Robyn’s set itself - astounding feels like too small a word. This is one of those artists who possess that difficult-to-describe quality that instantly makes you feel you’re watching somebody destined for much bigger things. A singer-songwriter with a classically trained background, there’s an ease and confidence to their musicianship that’s impossible to ignore.

Their voice is heartbreakingly beautiful, carrying almost a Cranberries-esque quality at times - haunting, rich and deeply emotive. The lyrics are intelligent and emotionally charged, yet still threaded through with flashes of wordplay and personality. Elvis Presley’s in My Basement was a perfect example of outstanding songwriting: clever, vivid and packed with wit and emotion.

Sheff Herd will be writing more about their releases shortly, but you should absolutely catch them at Café #9 on June 6th - if you can, that is, because it’s very nearly sold out.”
