Negaduck likes the Prime universe in the sense that he finds it a challenge. His universe is already pretty rotten, and while he finds it fun because he can treat it as a playground in some sort of way–eventually it gets boring. It's why he comes and goes in prime, he appears when he wants, does what he wants and then disappears.
It's interesting because I think a part of him keeps coming back because of Darkwing. (Just a heads up this is NOT negawing) Darkwing is really one of the only characters to put a stick in his wheels and get in the way of his plans, it's why Negaduck constantly has to think of new ways to approach St.Canard. Darkwing is a lot more important in his life than I think he likes to acknowledge.
I do not think Darkwing holds any attachment to Negaduck. He finds him as much of a hassle as he does any other villain in St.Canard. Additionally, I think he's removed himself from Negaduck completely. Darkwing knows they're not the same person (unless we're talking about the good looks they both claim to have). There's no special treatment with him.
When Gosalyn gets involved he obviously doesn't want her there and he'll tell her to go home, but it's nothing nearly as major as Taurus bulba. It gets to the point where Launchpad uses the Quiverwing Quack Episode to tell Darkwing that he's coddling Gosalyn too much. All that's to say, Darkwing doesn't care nearly as much as Nd.
Another thing I think is interesting is his constant attempts to kill Dw. He hates him, and I think a big part of that hate comes from the fact that Negaduck is a varient of Dw. They both have a need to be #1, and tbh I think the mere fact that Negaduck will never be an original, THE varient really annoys him, especially because the original goes against everything he stands for.
It's interesting how tunnel visioned he gets sometimes, how committed he is to offing the hero. Because of how much of a challenge Darkwing is for him, the greatest achievement of all would be to get rid of him entirely.
And he doesn't think that far ahead either because in the case that he does succeed, What then? He'll likely be as bored as he was in his own universe
It's interesting how negaduck relies on Darkwings whereas dw doesn't. There will ALWAYS be other bad guys, there won't be another darkwing.
Any headcanons on Ripcord, Birdie, and Loopy? Do they ever lovingly embarrass LP in front of his husband and daughter?
okay, disclaimer, top duck is the only episode of DT87 i've watched but i've only watched it once.
but based on top duck, LP's backstory bits in DWD91, DT17 and the DWD18 Bible:
so in DWD18, ripcord and birdie were hands-off parents, not in an uncaring way, but apart from making sure their kids had pilot training before they could even walk, they believed that children should figure out the world for themselves. they sort of "unschooled" LP and loopy.
similar to the story in top duck, as a kid, a really bad crash left LP so ashamed he left home. loopy was younger but smarter and a better pilot than him, and he loved her so so much but he compared himself to her and he felt like he was holding his family back.
and leaving home as a kid because of feelings of inadequacy definitely did not leave him with any lifelong relationship issues he has to sort out. his determination to create a family with drake and gos totally doesn't border on desperation because of that.
i think ripcord and birdie have some regrets on how they brought up their kids. it was sink or swim and they didn't realize their son felt like he was sinking.
but once they all iron stuff out, which they WILL (i would talk about it more but i haven't thought about it that deeply yet so i don't want to feel like i am reheating my friend @soy-s4uce 's launchpad nachos) then absolutely they embarrass him in front of his husband and daughter.
drake was extremely wary of the mcquacks at first. his own family issues mixed with launchpad caginess around what his issues are. he expected the absolute worst. i think he was the most wary around ripcord. like, instinctively standing in darkwing posture wary.
but it turns out ripcord is like if launchpad was a lot calmer and had his head screwed on a little straighter.
just like thad loves showing gos's baby pictures, birdie loves showing launchpad's baby pictures and drake feels like the luckiest man alive. until he's flipping through the album going "WAIT WAIT <3 i have to see the awkward acne phase!" and everyone gets really quiet and drake realizes he has put his foot in his mouth.
loopy loves being an aunt to gosalyn. she's always trying to give her clothes and jewelry and stuff. they. don't really have the same sense of style. but gos thinks loopy is really cool. she lets her take the yoke once or twice in her biplane.
loopy's also always being like "when are you gonna propooooose??" before LP and drake get engaged. luckily i think they probably got reconnected after drakepad started dating or launchpad would not have survived.
i like thinking about loopy as a similar flavor of dummy as 17 launchpad. they both get a spacey look in their eyes. they both go "buh?" and misunderstand people. they both fix planes with bubble gum. they both love hugs and love each other very much.
ripcord is enthusiastically if confusedly supportive of LP's sexuality. ("it makes me so proud to have a gay son :]" "he's bi, dear." "by what?")
the mcquacks are some of the only people from the mallard-mcquacks' pasts that don't immediately clock them being superheroes. which makes it awkward because they're like. oh. we have to actually talk about whether we'll tell them.
