If you wanna be tagged as I update, leave a comment below and I'll tag you in the future chapters.
Footsteps echoed faintly down the hall, the door to the lecture room barely locked. Sylus’s hand slid to the back of your head, pulling you closer before you could think. The edge of his desk dug into your hips as he pressed you against it, the kiss deepening despite the quiet voices drifting past his door.
The building was nearly empty at this hour.
That should have been enough reason to stop
Neither of you did. Sylus found it nearly impossible to pull himself away from you. He kissed you till the air in your lungs was gone, your grip tightening on his tie. You both pulled away, panting whilst you stared into each other’s eyes. His gaze moved across your face, his breath catching slightly in his throat. For a moment he simply held you there, taking in everything about this moment. “You have no idea what you do to me.”
His lips quickly found your neck, your pulse thrumming beneath them as he kissed along your skin. Your breath grew ragged, need laced in your whines whilst his hands continued to explore your skin.
Suddenly the doorknob rattled.
You came back to your senses and pushed him off you, scrambling to the other side of the desk just as the door swung open. Another student had walked in and Sylus mentally palmed his face. “Professor Qin? I had a couple questions about the homework.” Sylus cleared his throat, smoothing his clothes and straightening his tie in an attempt to look less disheveled.
“Grab a chair, pull it up to my desk.” His voice was slightly gruff, underlying irritation in his tone as his eyes finally settled on you once more. The emotion swirling in his irises were that of annoyance and apology.
Quickly slipping out his phone under the desk, he shot you a text. ‘Meet at my place?’ You stared at it, before locking your phone again and sighing softly. That didn’t go unnoticed by him, however, he simply chose to leave you be, especially after such a close call.
The mini tutor session between you, him, and this other student lasted longer than you’d like until he finally decided to call it a night. You purposely put your things away in a slow manner, eventually leaving just you and him in the silence of the lecture hall. His shoes clicked against the tile, echoing till the stopped in front of you.
Sylus gently grabbed your hand, holding it in his own. “We can continue where we left off.” His voice was gentle, his lips placing a delicate kiss to the back of your hand.
You gnawed on your lip, the ache in your heart heavy as you contemplated saying something that would only crush you both. Letting out a heavy sigh, Sylus could sense something was wrong. “Sylus…” you spoke, the lump in your throat aching as you blinked back tears. “We should stop doing this..seeing each other.”
Sylus’s grip weakened, the faint smile on his lips disappearing. Silence stretched between you as he processed your words. “Did…” He swallowed thickly, his mouth running dry whilst he tried to find his words. “Did I do something wrong?” His voice was soft, carrying a broken cadence while he waited for a glimmer of hope in your pending response. You shook your head, trying your hardest not to cry. “This relationship between us, it’s not appropriate you know that.”
“We can figure something out-”
“No Sylus. I can’t keep doing this with you.” You finally had the courage to look at him, eyes full of tears as they rolled down your face. It crushed him to see you in so much pain. “I don’t want to keep hiding, scurrying, looking over my shoulder to see if there’s someone nearby that’s gonna catch us.”
While you were bringing up valid points, Sylus’s thinking was past logical. You were like the air he needed to breathe, and now it was like you were choking him, slowly straining all air from his lungs. “But..”
“You and I both know how risky this is.” At that point, not being able to stay there any longer, you rushed to pack the rest of your things and headed towards the door.
“Wait!” His voice echoed behind you, it took everything in you not to stop and give in to his pleas. “Please, we can work something out. I can’t lose you.” But his words were nothing more than a confession that drifted into the wind. Hot tears streamed down your face as the reality of your relationship with Sylus—your professor—finally settled in.
It was best you cut it off before you got more hurt right? Afterall you still had to graduate, you couldn’t fuck it up, not when you were so close, especially not for a fleeting moment like this.
You scratched your head, squinting at the schedule on your phone screen. You knew better than to wait last minute to figure out where on campus your classlss wasis. Having gone there for 3—well 4 now, you knew the building locations well enough to believe that finding this class should be a breeze. Wrong. You were now 15 minutes late for your criminology lecture.
Surely with it being the first day, the professor could cut you some slack right? You finally found the classroom, tucked away in the back corner of the building. The door was shut, that wasn't a good sign. At first you hesitated, palms sweaty, but you shook it off and gripped the handle.
It was locked. You sheepishly knock on the door waiting for a response. The door swung open and the first thing that hit you was the scent. A strong, very masculine scent. Sandalwood and ember.
Your eyes flicked up, a pair of crimson orbs boring into your own eyes. He wasn't anything like you were expecting. He was stunning, and fairly young for a university professor. "You're late." He stepped aside letting you into the classroom.
Your eyes scanned the room for an open seat you could hide away in but found it unamusing when the only available seats to choose from were in the first row. Gripping your bag tightly, you swiftly made your way into the front row seats towards the middle of the aisle.
The professor watched unamused while a series of "''scuse me"s and "sorry"s were muttered till you finally found yourself seated, quite awkwardly at that.
He let out a deep sigh, making you sink further into your seat. Using his laser pointer, he motioned towards the board "For anyone who missed it, I am Professor Qin, all information about contacts and office hours are written on this side of the board."
The laser suddenly disappeared. "It will also be written on the syllabus. He paused, looking at you momentarily. Professor Qin picked up a series of papers from his desk before walking over to you, silently dropping them on the table and walking back to his desk.
"Any missed lectures can be found on my classroom site using the student portal. However attendance is mandatory. Moving on."
He motioned towards you "I will need to go over some of the course introduction so please see me after class." You heard a girl behind you mutter 'lucky' under her breath, trailing off about how she plans to be late to the next lecture.
The rest of the class went by slowly, it was only the first day afterall, there wasn't much to be taught. The snickers from behind you fading in and out whilst you scribbled down things in your notebook. Your gaze occasionally raking his figure as he move back and forth the front of the classroom.
After what was a seemingly endless lecture, Professor Qin finally concluded it. "That is all I have for you today. Please do keep an eye out on the classroom website for any updates or announcements. You have my contact information if you have any questions."
The study hall roared to life as the scoot of chairs and choir of backpack zippers filled the air. You almost forgot you were to meet with him after class until you found yourself the slacker amongst the crowd, being the last one to leave.
"I assume you intended on staying behind after class?" Your movements halted when you heard the click of his shoes stop near where you were still seated as you packed up the last of your things. Clearing your throat, you draw the last zip on your bag and look at him. "Let's go over what you missed this morning, hm?" You sheepishly nod as your attention turned to him.
"Well I would like to start off letting you know that, attendance is mandatory and important. You will have 2 excused absences, anything past that will be a deduction from your grade unless a legitimate excuse is given." His words were nearly venomous, no surprise given how late you were to the first lecture of the semester. You nodded in understanding.
"All ways to communicate with me are on the syllabus along with my office hours. Office hours aren't usually subject to change unless stated otherwise." You nodded, making a mental note of that. "And finally make sure to get well acquainted with your classmates, it will make this course much easier for you. Any questions?"
You shook your head "None, Professor.."
"Qin, Professor Qin." He finished off the sentence. You sucked your teeth nodding stiffly.
"Right— I will make sure to remember that. Thank you and I'm sorry about being late. It won't happen again." slipping out from behind the table, you made your way towards the door. Lucky for you, this was your only class for the day and towards the evening for that matter. However, that very reason was why you severely overestimated your ability in finding this class.
You're heading towards the parking lot, pulling out your phone, scrolling through till you find the caller ID you're looking for. The line rang, seemingly too long. Just as you were about to hang up it was answered.
The sound coming from the speaker was nearly deafening. "Just the person I….thinking of!….gonna….by?!" Caleb was screaming through the phone, no surprise to you when you could hear the bass boosted music and loud, endless chatter. His words were cutting out despite trying your hardest to understand him. You pulled the phone away from your ear, wincing at the sheer volume coming through.
Caleb was your childhood best friend, and while you both got along swimmingly, your lives were on opposite spectrums. Him being the infamous frat boy no girl could resist while you were the more chill homebody. "Caleb—I can't hear you, I'll just te-"
"You gonna swing by, Pips!" You paused, genuinely contemplating it. How wise would it be for you to go to a party so early in the beginning of the school year? This wasn't your first rodeo, however, you had to play it smart. It was your last year so you had to make it count.
The place was absolutely booming, you couldn't hear your own thoughts over the speakers and chatter. Caleb ran to the entrance to greet you, quite enthustically to no surprise. He jumped into your arms, squeezing you tightly. "Pips! So glad you turned up!"
Your eyes scanned the room, everyone seemingly on cloud nine. You did notice a couple glares but you were used to that.
Being close with the renown and very desired frat boy on campus meant there were bound to be a few jealous people. Caleb grabbed your hand and dragged you through the crowd, shoving a red solo cup in your hand before pouring you a drink.
Did you know what it was? No. But you didn't bat an eye and downed the whole thing in one go.
Hoots and hollers grew loudly, loudest from Caleb himself as he slung an arm around your neck and pulled you close. The night was only getting started.
It passed by in a blur, noise, music, laughter, and chaos, something you had grown accustomed to over time.
Morning came far too quickly. You found yourself passed out on Caleb’s bed. Groggily, you pushed yourself upright, your head pounding with every breath you took. A groan slipped past your lips as you tried to get your bearings.
When you shifted, your gaze landed on Caleb's disheveled figure. His feet where the pillow should have been, his head nearly hanging off the bed. "Eugh Caleb…get your stank ass feet away from my face."
He groaned in response, hanging a foot off the bed in what seemed like an attempt to wake up. That wasn’t happening any time soon. You stumbled out of the bed, heading toward the bathroom, searching for something—anything—to help with the splitting headache drilling at your skull. Your eyes remained squinted while trying to adjust to the light.
Getting to the bathroom proved to be a task in itself as unconscious students were scattered about the floor—typical of Caleb’s parties.
Finally you made it to the bathroom. Reaching blindly for your toothbrush, your hand cautiously swiped through the air until your fingers brushed against the familiar plastic.
If you were being honest with yourself, Caleb’s apartment was like your second home. Despite the absolute mess parties left behind, he always made sure the spare room remained untouched. After all, it was yours to use whenever you wanted—his offer, of course.
You grabbed the tube of toothpaste from behind the mirror, squeezing what you could out of it. “Damn Caleb, you really need some fucking toothpaste.” you muttered to yourself, shoving the brush in your mouth.
“I need some what..?” The groggy voice came from behind you, followed by a weight on your shoulder. Whipping your head around, you were met with a face full of hair. Caleb’s head rested on your shoulders, his arms snaking around you to rest on your waist as he slumped further into you.
The weight of his body grew heavier by the second, he was falling asleep again. “Calebbbb, geh off me.” Your mouth full of toothpaste, brush still between your teeth. He simply groaned in response, balancing some of his weight on his feet instead of your body.
“Mmm you’re warm.” His breath tickled your neck, still heavy with the scent of alcohol.
“Caleb—” you spit out the toothpaste in your mouth, looking at the reflection in the mirror before rolling your eyes. “Can I please brush my teeth in peace?”
He simply groaned in response, his hold on you becoming tighter. “Caleb I swear to god, if you fall asleep on me again I’m shaving your eyebrows.”
The threat barely made him budge, after all he knew it was empty. You gave up and accepted your fate of him clinging to your back. Brief silence passed, the scritch and scratch of the toothbrush being the only break in silence.
“So how was your first day of class?” He sounded more awake despite being groggy. You spit out another glob of toothpaste.
“How was your first day of class? Any new fan club members?” He scoffed, you could practically hear him roll his eyes as you felt the smile creep on his face.
“You already know how that goes down, Pips.” He chuckled lightly, finally releasing you from his hold and standing up straight. Caleb ran his hands through his hair, a poor attempt at fixing his bedhead. He reached around you, grabbing his toothbrush and sighing when he saw the measly tube of toothpaste. “Damn..” he sighed, squeezing the absolute last of its contents out onto the bristles. “I gotta get some fucking toothpaste.”
“Speaking of things that need fixing…I’ve got criminology again today.” You sighed. Professor Qin’s crimson eyes flashed briefly through your mind, making you pause for a split second before finishing rinsing your mouth.
