it's cool how often people will outright admit with zero self awareness that they think Veth's unforgivable sin is having priorities other than Caleb. Caleb, of course, has always had priorities outside tending to her needs, but that is right and natural for reasons that don't need to be examined. I think at least one reason why ppl get so defensive of the idea of Veth as his literal mother is that it serves as shorthand for the idea that she owes him everything and he owes her nothing.
YES. Anon, this is exactly it, people so often think her unforgivable sin is having priorities outside Caleb. This was the crux of That One Meta that I hate so much is that it implied exactly this (in addition, of course, to inexplicably calling Veth straight and neurotypical). And then there's the catch-22 of people also thinking it's wrong that she stays with the party instead of prioritizing her family by going home and being a housewife. It's a no-win situation! There is always something for someone to pick at about what she's doing, what she's not doing, who she cares about, and who she's not caring about. It's visibly fucking misogyny at work here. just blatantly

this is so stupid
I'm not gonna lie folks i think it's going to be somewhat difficult for Black critters to engage with the fandom if it keeps being posts that say "people are saying [regurgitates verbatim some vile, racist shit they found in the depths of twitter] and I just want to say, nuh uh"
like, I understand where the impulse comes from
but I have seen one (1) actual racist post about aabria (and it was on my for you page, not on my actual dash) and like five (5) posts on my dash quoting the racist shit to debunk it
please, for the love of god, stop giving them your blog as a platform.
if you're not sure what to do with this information, just say the nice thing.
do you think aabria's hot and cool and her rp instincts are killer? just say that.
are you thrilled to see more of her in the main cast? say that!
there's NO need to state the counter-argument! bad-faith critics can choke! the best way to kill a troll is to starve it!!!
Was contemplating hopping back in for c4 but hadnโt committed yetโ didnโt have time Thurs night to catch the streamโ but having seen some choice quotes and realizing itโs Brennan doing CR truly in full forceโฆ yeah catch me there!!!!!! Buying my popcorn seating myself
Currently I'm watching Campaign 2 for the first time while also doing Rewatch Machina and it's lead to a funny coincidence where last night I watched Beau and Caleb get into a heated argument about a bowl and today watched Keyleth start a fight with Kima. The two disputes are very interesting to compare in terms of Beau and Keyleth as characters. In both cases, the hostility is coming from a combination of their ideals and their issues, which are rooted in different places and expressed very differently even within the context of both being arguments.
Beau values personal autonomy and thinks that Caleb is impeding Cali's freedom because of his own issues. It's part of a wider pattern of tension between them but in the moment she's laser focused on this one specific thing because bringing up other problems won't help her achieve her goal of getting the bowl to Cali and pushing back against Caleb. During this she never claims any moral superiority, even referring to them all as shitty people, her focus is on maintaining what she sees as a bare minimum of decency.
Meanwhile in Keyleth brings up disliking being congratulated for killing someone, her issues with the gods, her fears around Grog being missing, questions whether Kima's worth the effort they've put into saving her, and suggests Kima might become the very thing she hates. There's no coherent argument, it's an assortment of moral perspectives and anxieties. She had to accept they can't get Grog until they've slept but she's still upset about it so all the anger is bursting out of her in a bunch of different directions. Throughout, she's framing herself as separate from Kima and making it clear that she disapproves of the other's moral framework.
Both are focusing on what they perceive to be the morality of the situation, are being stubborn about it, and are dragging their issues in with them. Beau is coming at it from the hardened angle of someone who's resigned themselves to being a shitty person and just wants to get stuff done; contrarily, Keyleth is terrified of being a bad person and is crumbling under the weight of imperfect choices. They're each far more willing than most of their party to start an argument with allies but they don't argue for no reason, and when they start a disagreement and what they say is very revealing in regards to central conflicts within them.
i'm sure this all has been said before but i am utterly besotted with how essek's arc in c2 looks from the m9s perspective.
like, you meet a guy with full authority on whether you friend's husband lives or dies. he's mysterious and powerful and will not take any of your bullshit. he's incredibly hot. you invite him over for dinner and he says no i have work and then knocks at your door fourty minutes later and says i changed my mind would you um uh. have me over for dinner. he infodumps to you about driving his father to his own death and also not having any friends. this makes a lot of sense. he wont let you forget about all those favours you owe him but does teach your wizard some baller spells. you fuck off for a couple months. come back in time to attend a fancy party in honour of the peace agreement you busted your entire ass to make happen. out of curiosity you decide to spy on the convo between ludinus and some slightly suspicious dignitary. its like, super easy to do that unnoticed. the dignitary is that fucking guy. holyshit.jpeg . he's still doing his most recognizable gimmick under his disguise. youre like what the fuck man and he starts crying. you fuck off for another couple months. get back. he's incredibly hyped to hear from you and eager af to help. not a mention of the favours you owe is made. halfway through the conversation he stops to rant about how hes a terrible person and will do anything to atone. his devastating puppy eyes are on par with your wizard who he's obviously pathetically in love with. you bring him with you into the worstest couple days of his elven life. he's visibly trembling but like still trying to be cool in front of your wizard. when its over he gives a speech about friendship and love and repenting. he's crying the entire time.
he floats away to go repent. you check in a year later and he's leading a fulfilling life with your wizard. he has not found a way to soft launch his walking normally again . he's one of your bestest friends.
Theyโre the same picture
Which would you prefer for your respective characters, dying in this final arc so that their story is complete, or surviving and running into your future characters in the next campaign?

sorry if this has been asked already but do you have/know of any good suggestions for rules-medium or rules-heavy games that are a bit more sensibly constructed than d&d 5e?
lancer - mech combat in the space future (i am constantly bitching about the lore and fandom but the rules are incredible)
nobilis - diceless (but still rules-heavy) godlets fighting the apocalypse
unknown armies - weird fucking game with a weird fucking magic system where the more weird you are the better you are at magick

Friend of mine is playing Last of Us for the first time, so it's time for me to do my sacred duty of sharing that nearly every "caught on fire and screaming" VO reaction is Liam O'Brien, and he taught Ashley Johnson how to do it for Ellie's death reactions which is how they became friends.
