This is my 1000th post on Instagram! 🎉 ⁣ ⁣ When I scroll back to the beginning of my feed, I see my young family in Costa Rica, where we went to begin our digital nomad adventures. I’ve been able to live this flexible lifestyle because of all of you, the people who stay in touch with me, and follow my adventures. ⁣ ⁣ Posting on Instagram has always had a professional context for me, which is why I post photos of stages where I speak and virtual events that I host. I post about my business, and my services, and how I set up smart marketing systems for experts and entrepreneurs. ⁣ ⁣ However, I must admit, there has always been a personal agenda to my Instagram account, as well. If my kids are ever wondering about their childhood, in the decades to come, they will always be able to scroll back to the beginning of this feed, and see themselves when they were young. I have personal reasons for making this accessible to them, no matter what happens to me, or to them, or to the photo albums scattered across storage units. I want them to always be able to peek into their past. ⁣ ⁣ But my future is changing. I’m going to change how I use my Instagram account, and when I change things, I experiment. I’ll be taking some downtime from this account while I figure things out. ⁣ ⁣ In the future, I’ll be sharing more quotes, more frequently, and talking about the problems I solve for entrepreneurs in more detail. But like my business, my Instagram account was founded on my family. This is the only photograph I have of my childhood. I won’t share the story of why I was cut out of this picture, not yet. I need lots of space and time and therapy to write a memoir, when I’m older. Even though I don’t share my story, it haunts me every day. This picture reminds me that we are all presenting a façade to one other, showcasing only those pieces of ourselves that don’t break. This manuscript is going into Draft 6. I thought the #marketingyourselfbook would be ready to publish in 2021, but it’s not good enough yet. Instead of writing a fresh first draft for #NaNoWriMo I am editing a chapter every day through November, by hand. Theres something very satisfying about marking up a printed manuscript by hand, as opposed to editing it on a computer. It puts me in touch with all the nooks and crannies I overlook on the screen. Finally, it’s SPRINGTIME! In Aotearoa we #springforward today, while my American friends will fall back and reset their clocks in November. So in New Zealand I will go from being 5 hours apart from Pacific Time to 4 hours for 6 weeks, and then 3 hours for five months. The 20-year reunion for the 2001 graduating class of the @DellArteInternational School of Physical Theatre is later this month, and I volunteered to produce the virtual Zoom reunion. 20 years ago, we studied Clown, Melodrama, Commedia, Mime, Circus Arts, and most importantly, Ensemble Theatre together. The Ensemble is the group, the Chorus, the collection of performers who share a unified expression. Bringing us together to make an Ensemble while we don’t share the same physical space is tricky, but not impossible. I am meeting with the Planning Committee for the reunion tomorrow, to run through the exercises, activities, and games we can play together to reconnect with the alumni as performers, as people, and as friends. Will there be laughter and shenanigans?
