4/100 | I usually take Sundays off but not this weekend. I was to study yesterday but the day was so foggy and grey and after lunch I decided to pick up a book from the shelf and just leave study time for today.

Sometimes looking through my desk window makes me feel deeply moved. The fields, the trees, the houses... you know all of that beauty pierces my eyes and my mind starts to think, remember, assemble words, daydream. The rain has always had some kind of nostalgia inherent to its constant dropping and for some reason yesterday made me think of my days in Berlin. Searching for something to read my eyes noticed this book I’ve had borrowed from the library a couple of weeks ago and... I totally devoured it. The youth, the music, the urban trespassing on a grey city that was just starting its new life. I’ve always been deeply in love with Berlin, its cultural history and its rough sound. Reading the testimonies from the djs and all the people that took part on the birth and rising of techno music scene both in Berlin and Detroit was so inspiring. 

So... was it a productive weekend? Well, in a sense it was. I did my daily english exercises and reading and though I didn’t read or write a line of my research project I think I found a slight connection between the 90′s Berlin music scene and what I’m writing these days. Maybe I’m just forcing it, but I feel like I’m having a hunch I want to follow. If in two weeks I still think there’s something I guess I wasn’t too wrong lmao

Today wasn’t a very productive day. I basically finished yesterday’s reading -which turned out to be quite entertaining- and didn’t complete my to-do lit. Guess I was thinking on going out tonight - honestly fridays are not made for being focused on academia.

01:17 am | Quick report from bed before going to sleep. I’ve been writing on the afternoon and reading some papers after dinner, and I also completed my daily english exercises. Tomorrow I expect to write a little bit more and start to study some stuff I’ve been avoiding for a while.

Lately my academic life has been such a mess. I have tons of work which include daily academic tasks and research, prepare for my CAE exam and study something that i don’t know if it’s common in other countries but in Spain is called oposición and basically consists in a large exam process you need to go through if you want to work in some public institutions - like court, universities, schools, museums, hospitals, libraries, etc. But after christmas I literally couldn’t focus on anything but playing sims lmao.

So I really need to establish a study routine again and this is why I’m starting the 100 days of productivity challenge. From now on I’ll be posting each day -from monday to saturday- a pic of my progress on one of these three topics: research -art and philosophy related-, english notes/readings and oposición stuff - which includes law, museology, history of art and heritage management. 

Hope this helps because I need to reverse this situation!

18:16 | So the end of the year has arrived and I have to study the spanish constitution. Yeah, learning how the general state budget works it’s not being the best Christmas you can imagine. I’m looking forward to come back to philosophy an art texts asap. Till then, I wish you all a happy new year!!

Yesterday I had a meeting with one of my professors and it was such a disaster. I thought I had a good idea for a paper but it turned out that the structure I'd been drafting for the last two weeks didn't make any sense at all. Anyway now I'm flying back home for Christmas so today will absolutely be much better than yesterday!

Me protecting the author from post-structuralists who smuggle the implications of their framework outside its proper scope and use it to deflect criticisms of their bad analyses while purporting to represent the unanimous opinion of all academic critical theory.

Me stating that the fact that we are having this argument in the first place is proof enough that the work has more autonomy than the artist. The author has no power over the work, the audience does, contingency does. Art does not exist within a vacuum because the artist doesn’t either. To state otherwise is to ignore the glaring problems in our society. This isn’t a good thing, “audience” and “consumers” mean the same thing in capitalist society. In order for work and the artist to be viewed truly objectively, capital needs to be taken out of the equation. Academic criticisms, magazine reviews, talk show spots: when you get down to it, all critiques and reviews are done to try to sell you something.
