i think there were a couple contenders when i was making my user, but i eventually decided that i wanted to reference The Crane Wives, because they’re a hell of a band, and i have quite literally All of their songs on a single compiled playlist. i also wanted to chuck a life series ref into the mix, and i ended up settling on Canary (a la the canary curse) (and the canary in a coal mine song BY tcw) and so they got smacked together, and the-canary-wives was thereby established :D

fun fact, i actually hate my username!! i would change it (and honestly i likely will anyway) if i wasn’t already known as ghghghostt around here.

BUT, ghost is the nickname i’ve been using online for a few years now. i was looking for things that had my kind of vibe and names that felt somewhat in the middle of masc and fem and ghost had a ring to it that just felt right. i got to ghghghostt by literally just sticking more letters into it until i had a username.

So, I always liked the monster from a board game called Zombicide, it was called Magenta Covfefe of Aghghhggg (dont know if I spelled it correctly) so that was my nick for a long time. Then one day we (me and my dad) decided it would be better if it was shorter. So my dad took Magenta and added my name Anna (now a deadname, oi) and thats how Magentanna became a thing. I know theres my deadname in it but like, I wont change it now and it doesnt bother me that much anyway. So yeah.

I must've posted about this here somewhere in the murky past, but kbnet is a compound of "KB" and "network."

KB is an abbreviation of "KonoBaka." It means "this fool" in Japanese. The name comes from late 2010, and my freshman year of college. I wanted to project a sense of humility – that I was just a wandering fool – and thought it'd be funny for forum quote blocks to read "This Fool said:" in Japanese. It didn't take long for me to sour on the name as too weeby, and I think I only used it thrice. Unfortunately for me, one of those times was on a forum called Ace Combat Skies in 2011. I switched usernames sometime in 2013 to Sternefunken, but by then I was already known as KB. ACS was by far my closest knit internet community, so KB became my most important nickname. Not having anything better, I came up with a few earlier KB derivatives. The most important was "Nemo KB" in 2013, combining my other most important handle (a Jules Verne reference dating back to high school), but ultimately I didn't like that either. By 2016, I decided that I wanted to give all my social media handles common brand and settled on "kbnet" for The KB Network. I haven't found a need to change it since.

You'll note that at no point was my tumblr named any of these other things. I created my tumblr in August 2013 as toarunobaka – "a certain fool" in Japanese – another short-lived derivative of KB. I subsequently used youkaiphilosopher (as a philosophy student who loved Touhou), and intensionalmagic (a mathematical logic thing), before settling on kbnet. In fact, I think tumblr was the first site I used kbnet on; I only renamed my twitter in early 2018.

I don't want to leave anyone out, so I leave this open to anyone who sees it.
