I heard through the grapevine that their loyalties lie with the Jabberwocks and that they also go by the Hierophant. Be careful, they work for them as an advisor and can sometimes be icy, embittered, or even vengeful but I’ve also heard some people say that they were unflappable, devoted and quite protective.— Moss. they/them. 23. Who: Anyone! When: One week after the Hippodrome Event Where: Just outside City Hall

How was it when he said "I have no further comments at this time", somehow zero people understood it? Samuel, normally hawklike eyes still a little dull and with rings under them that he hadn't managed to shake quite yet, removed himself from the podium after strictly instructing any constables he had pulled with him to deny making any comments to anyone, especially the ones that pressed themselves against the arms of his officers. Shouting over each other, waving microphones too close to people's faces for comfort. Lots of pictures being taken of his back.

The fiasco at the Liddell Hippodrome was still a mystery. Hector hadn't given him anything he could use, he was sure Viktor was conducting his own set of interviews and interrogations pertaining to the event and as he subconsciously reached down to thumb idly at his grandfather's aged bronze pocket watch, he concealed a twinge of his brow when it was still not there. There were too many questions, too many loose ends. His insides burned, but not from the toxin that had been administered to him.

"I said I have no further comments." He repeated rather irritably as he had paused in his departure to place his heels against his eyes for a moment, as though the gesture could stop them from stinging. Stop his head from pounding. It didn't keep him from being able to hear movement behind him, however, and he naturally assumed it was one of the parasitic journalists who had managed to slither between the barrier separating him from the rest of the public.

Despite being 6'3 and having shoulders broad enough to carry the weight of the Liddell line, Sefa could be surprisingly unobtrusive when needed. He fell easily in line just behind the commissioner with his hair in a neat knot at the back of his neck and a sharp, if generic suit that kept his tattoos covered, not that obsessive journalists wouldn't recognize him and his connections anyway, offering a gentle hand on his shoulder and fresh coffee - mocha, to sweeten the deal a little, but with and extra couple shots of espresso because god knows they needed it. "No comment needed, Commissioner, but... a moment of your time?" He kept his voice soft, trying to not be picked up in any recordings, but also not unlike a voice he'd use to calm a spooked horse. "Either for a personal testimony from a citizen who was poisoned and robbed while trying to organize an event, or conversation with a Liddell representative. Your choice."

Sefa's embarrassed more than anything. Of course he'd gotten so worried about keeping eyes on all the Liddells and making sure that all was well visually that he'd slipped up and let himself get poisoned and robbed like an amateur. He'd been advised that the caffeine and acid of coffee would only make him worse, so naturally he'd gotten a mocha on the way to do his best not to slink up to his boss with his tail between his legs. The sting of pain and nausea gave him something else to focus on, and some of the unsteadiness in his stance had cleared in favor of a slight shake in his hands.

He knocked sharply, before slipping into Viktor's office with the least haggard look he can manage.

"... To get ahead of it, I am sorry."

The serpent in the Garden of Eden. He would've liked to have thought of himself as such, wouldn't he? Or was he the sin that cast them out of the Garden? Was it possible to be both? Was it possible for the snake to resist sinking its fangs into its potential prey?

All questions that lingered in Dante's mind as he effortlessly locked eyes with his... replacement. Temporary? He wasn't sure yet. He fully expected the other man to be here, but part of him wondered if their paths would cross, what with Dante's new fluctuating existence with the Jabberwocks nowadays. Whatever was going through that mind was well-hidden behind a trained mask, and it wasn't the one that tastefully danced on one side of his face, caressing his stubbled jaw. A practised smile had the man looking up at the replacement, but he kept his own hand to himself, an expensive glass of rich red wine swishing about in it rhythmically.

"Iosefa." He replies, an impossible chill lacing his tone betraying how warm and inviting his expression was. "It sure has been a while, hasn't it?" It was rhetorical in nature. "They teach the right hand how to shake, now?" He said through his teeth, a petty but quick snipe to initiate exactly what sort of conversation this would be.

How disappointing. Maybe its the lawyer in him, but even with a smile on his face Dante's immediate ice and knifes out feels like he's getting ahead of himself. They're at a social event, for one, and a social event that has been actively starting to burn down around them. Sefa narrows his eyes incredulously, glancing at the crowd around them and then back to try and remind his predecessor just how bad it is to show division in the ranks. "We're all friends here, Dante. You can call me Sefa, the whole family does." He sighs, laughing softly to give the most genuine smile he can. It doesn't quite reach his eyes, but Sefa's gaze is soft with pity and sympathy instead of frosty. He's already started to feel a bit nauseous, but having to calmly bring his hand back down without a shake makes his stomach turn. It would be so easy to hate him, teurn the favor, but Sefa has already decided that Dante's the only one who'll stoop to lower levels here. "I've learned a lot of tricks, and making nice is certainly one of them. God knows we need it."

Iosefa Tamaroa is many things: a rock, a constant JW presence that's slowly made his way up the ranks through grit and loyalty, a family man. But also, regrettably, jealous.

He's had a fairly predictable night of trying his best to stamp out small fired before they can reach Victor's attention, but catches sight of a face out in the crowd and froze like he'd seen a ghost. How the fuck did he not know that Dante was invited. Was it kept from him? Does the end of his sentence mean that Dante just thinks he can waltz back into his same level of respect and power? He grits his teeth, glaring over the rim of his glass as he downs the bottom of his glass of champagne and makes his way over.

"Excuse me? It's... certainly been a while." He smiles cordially, tension in his eyes behind the mask, and extends a hand. "Sefa Tamaroa, the right hand. Good to see you again."

On principle alone, Nikolai tried his damnedest to avoid these events thrown by his family. It seemed Viktor finally managed to outsmart him by figuring out that he was not expected to be at the Royal Opera House for the entire week. So, there Nikolai was outside of his house and among the masses. He sullenly drifted among the crowds, half mask pressed to his face (as if it did anything to truly hide his identity), in search of Max or Eliza.

As trays of drinks passed by him, Nikolai's eyes searched until they finally noticed a piano by the stage. A lighthouse in the ocean. Nikolai beelined for his beacon of hope when he stumbled into someone else. He coughed at the impact, mask only slightly askew, and lightly patted the shoulder of whoever he brushed against. "My apologies," he said, before lifting two drinks off the tray. Well, now he had to play social. It was the least he could do, he supposed. "Care for a drink as an apology?"

Sefa's not surprised that he's been roped into organizing and seeing that another event goes as smoothly as it can, but now its... too quiet. If he had to guess some sort of calm before the storm. But he can shake it off, tell himself that the night is still young and that maybe, maybe he'll be lucky enough to actually relax a bit and enjoy being a guest who doesn't want to be here like the rest of his family.

He closes his eyes, taking a breath and trying to recenter when he feels someone brush past him. Sefa starts a little, but looks back at Kolya with a bit of relief. "No you're alright, it's fine-" He sighs, but takes the offered drink anyway. "Where are you headed in such a hurry? Something else go wrong?"

He’s easy enough to spot in this crowd, due to both his height and the tattoos revealed by rolled up sleeves. Max’s babysitter, and perhaps the man with some influence on Viktor – gathering information isn’t particularly her job, but the opportunity is too amusing to let pass. Lottie smirks and makes her way casually through the crowd, snagging two glasses of champagne from a passing server.

“I don’t believe we’ve been properly introduced,” her smile is all playful charm as she hands him the second flute. The bit of tulle across her eyes does little to hide her face, her dress covering even less of her body – wouldn’t be the first time he’s seen her in some varying state of undress, though usually with Max. “Charlotte Astor, but my friends call me Lottie. Not off chasing Max or one of his siblings today?”

How like a Liddell event, Sefa couldn't help but think. Everyone dressed too expensive and outlandishly to care about anything other than being seen watching a horse race that no one gave a damn about outside the money they had usually put on a seemingly random horse. Whichever had the best name, or was suggested by a bookie who rattled off enough numbers.

Sefa feels like he's stuck on the outside again, pulled in six different directions as small things keep going wrong, but still out in the cold. Victor's been texting people, but no word to one of his most loyal who's practically working this event instead of attending.

He's about to reach out himself, has a most of "what's you plan for the rats, we're infested" written out and ready to send before hearing her voice, and turning quickly. Sliding his phone quickly back into his pocket and only pointedly looking at her face out of practice.

"I... No, I guess not. Pleasure, Charlotte. Iosefa, but Sefa's fine." He sighs, summoning a polite smile from somewhere deep down. "No, actually. Finally giving Max a night to breathe, I've got other things to chase instead."
