They should make a book and movie TBOSAS 2 where it shows what ACTUALLY happened after the games. All of the tributes, who were only reaped to act, get up and go live north together and have tea parties and regular parties and live normal lives. And kill Coriolanus.
a bitter (but knowing) arachne crashes diana’s wedding years after they end things.
[this wasn’t one of the most requested of my options but i love these two so much and wanted to write this BAD. enjoy <3]
Arachne ground her teeth together so hard she was certain the people surrounding her could hear it. A church wedding. Bullshit. Arachne couldn’t even be bothered to learn the guy’s name.
She stared daggers at Diana as she slowly walked down the aisle, as if she would see Arachne’s glare. The beautiful bride who was surely so excited to marry the love of her life. Bullshit again! All of this was!
What was Diana thinking? It’s not like this is what she wanted. Her mother, maybe. Weird, because Diana had always talked a big game about leaving her mom and her stupid Mormon ideals behind.
Truth be told, Arachne was just plain bitter. Being here was probably a bad idea in the first place- she wasn’t even invited. But there were so many people here, what was an extra face? And security wasn’t tight either.
The reception dragged on painstakingly long- Arachne could’ve sworn that she heard the old couple behind her snoring at one point. When it was over, Diana disappeared. Off to change out of her long-ass dress, most likely.
Arachne slipped away from the party. Luckily, because her presence wasn’t wanted in the first place, her absence went unnoticed as she walked down the halls, her heels clicking on the floor and her red wine glass nearly spilling at least 4 seperate times.
Arachne heard faint laughter from a room and turned abruptly, pushing the already cracked door open. Diana sat with her mother in a shorter white dress. Better for dancing, Arachne supposed.
Diana’s smile faltered for a good few seconds before it was replaced by a fake, blinding grin. “Arachne! So kind of you to make it. Mom, do you mind?”
Diana’s mother looked furious at her daughter, and her eyes were angrily laser focused on Arachne standing in the doorway. “I thought you two weren’t friends anymore.” The disdain in her voice was clear.
Diana’s mother never fully knew about Arachne and Diana, but the old bat had always had an inkling about what was going on. Of course, the idea that her perfect daughter was sneaking around, going against the church, only helped her hatred for Arachne grow, and clearly that hatred hadn’t faded over these years.
“We are. Started talking again just earlier this year.” Diana said, giving her mother an eager smile, urging her from the room with hand gestures.
The older woman went reluctantly, making a show of staying as far away from Arachne as possible.
Arachne scoffed after a moment, being sure that Diana’s mother had walked far enough down the hallway to give the two of them any privacy.
Diana stared up at Arachne almost dejectedly, like a kid caught doing something bad. “What are you doing here?”
Arachne narrowed her eyes at Diana, leaning against the door frame and taking a long, slow sip of her wine. “The better question is what you’re doing here.”
Diana looked down at her hands, picking at her fingers. A nervous habit. Arachne hadn’t forgotten.
“I love him.” Diana said, but her voice was weak and unconvincing.
“Who the fuck even is he?” Arachne scoffed. “Just some… guy?!”
Diana bit the inside of her cheek, forcing herself to look up from her hands and stop playing with the uncomfortable, heavy diamond ring on her finger.
“No. He’s a good guy.” Diana said, but it once again just sounded like Diana was convincing herself rather than Arachne.
“You don’t want this. You know you don’t. Why would you put yourself through this? You don’t like that guy. You don’t even like guys in general!” Arachne seethed, her volume raising.
Diana’s face twisted up at that with a mixture of emotions, shushing Arachne but once again not making eye contact with her. “I do. I’m bi. I love… I like guys.”
Arachne let out a bitter chuckle. This was certainly not her place, but it didn’t matter to her anymore. “You know you’re just lying to yourself. You’re not fooling anyone. Except maybe that idiot out there that has the matching ring to yours.”
Diana stood up, letting out an exasperated huff. “Just… stop, Arachne! It’s done!”
Arachne clamped her jaw again, and she set down her wine glass. “What’s this even for? Why would you do this to yourself?!” She said, raising her voice again.
She walked up to Diana, grabbing her wrist. “Listen to me, Diana Ring. You’re going to regret this for the rest of your life. And you know it. When you wake up next to him in the middle of the night 30 years from now, you know you’ll be nothing more than his wife.” She spat, her voice bitter.
“And when you think about me,” She continued, “all of those years ago? When you think about what I’m telling you now? You’ll be standing face to face with ‘I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!’”
Diana’s face was contorted in conflict. She couldn’t let Arachne tear all of this down, this perfect image she’d created, this perfect life she’d created. But she wanted her to. So badly.
“You know you can’t lie to yourself. Maybe to your mom, maybe to your brother, and you can try and lie to me, but you can’t lie to yourself, Didi.” Arachne said, dropping Diana’s wrist. Diana’s arms went limp at her sides. The nickname felt like venom in Arachne’s mouth.
“You know what you feel. And you’d have to stop the fucking earth from spinning to stop that feeling.” Arachne added, grabbing her wineglass from the side table and storming out.
just saw a tiktok of two roommates doing a trend where one goes "this is *** and I do the dishes, I make the bed, I do the laundry" and the other one is just serving face and if that doesn't scream snowjanus roommates au idk what does
NO NO YES!! coryo just sitting there and looking pretty 🥰
they're codependent and Coriolanus is awful for Sejanus but he just can't let him go. he tries dating other people but he misses Coriolanus possessiveness, his jealousy. Years of bullying and isolation make Sejanus crave Coriolanus's possessive nature, because it makes him feel loved in a way no one else makes him feel.
He keeps coming back to Coriolanus again and again and again. even if he manages to get in serious relationships, Sejanus always ends up cheating on them with Coriolanus. And he hates himself for it, but he can't help it. There is something wrong with him. Coriolanus ruined him.
And Coriolanus? He's just as ruined. He doesn't even try dating other people because he knows no one will give him what Sejanus does: complete and total devotion. No one else will love him like that. And he hates that Sejanus can't see what he sees so clearly: that they belong to each other. The burning jealousy he feels when Sejanus dates another man is unbearable, but the satisfaction when Sejanus falls back into his bed makes it almost worth it. He just wishes Sejanus would stop making it so complicated.
HAHDHSJFJFJJSNDN i love when people dont try to sanitize snowjanus or fix them, like just let them be toxic and depressed and gay. also "codependent toxic situationship au" ypu mean the canon version? liek thats js them
ok so basically in my modern!Ballad AU it focuses on Treemina (Big surprise there), but Coral, Mizzen, and Tanner are also prominent characters (Dr. Gaul too but in a different way...)
Anyway, they're all about college age for the sake of the story, and they're from the places their actors are from (Except for Mizzen because I made him and Coral siblings so they're both French now) (Also side note, this is heavily inspired by a modern au roleplay I did with my sister)
Lamina runs a small coffee shop in Berlin. Not many people know much about it, it's kind of tucked away.
Treech is studying abroad in Berlin for school (He's a history major) and happens to find Lamina's coffee shop after getting lost on the way to a museum
Coral, Mizzen, and Tanner all come in a little bit later and I'm not telling you anything about them because it'll spoil stuff.
Lamina makes Treech dress up as a fancy vampire because she’s a little too into Twilight at the moment (but don’t worry she matches with him)
Coral has the creepiest horror makeup and makes all the little kids cry. Mizzen goes as a sailor covered in starfish.
Tanner is the Cheshire Cat (I HAVE REASONS AND I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT IT IF YOU ASK) and begs Brandy to be the Mad Hatter or something. She refuses and doesn’t dress up.
Lucy Gray goes as Maria from West Side Story (hehe…) and Jessup goes as a ghost by wearing a bedsheet over his head (he panicked last minute)
Reaper and Dill duo and do Batman and Robin. Dill is Batman.
Wovey either goes as a cowboy/cowgirl or barbie. She keeps changing her mind every day. Bobbin goes as the Winter Soldier even though he’s missing the wrong arm.
Teslee and Circ dress up as some kind of electric thing. Idk the names of anything but they have crazy special effects to make them light up.
Facet and Velvereen are a prince and princess ofc, Marcus doesn’t dress up and just hands out candy, Sabyn is a black cat.
Sol and Hy go as Shaggy and Scooby Doo because that’s what Sol insisted on. Sol was Scooby.
Otto goes as a dog, and Ginnee is also a princess. Panlo and Sheaf don’t dress up😔
wait no the concept of modern college au!snowbairdplinth toxic throuple, in which Coryo and Lucy Gray have been in a situationship since freshman year but then why is Coriolanus always hanging out with his roommate Sejanus!?!? Everyone on campus is incredibly confused on how the dynamic works and its the most speculated thing at this old money college’s yikyak and Lucy Gray and Sej have to find a way to keep Coryo off the app before he bursts a blood vessel, shaves his head, and drops out.
coriolanus 'i can't do polyamory because if you like someone more than me i'm burning this whole house down' snow
see I completely agree and thats why i need it, rationally, he knows that sejanus and lucy gray arent romantically in love with one another and are instead bound by mutual, platonic love and also their love for their insane blonde boyfriend but every once in a while he goes on a D1 crashout because hes convinced LG and Sej are going to elope without him so he drills nails into their tires and fakes a cancer diagnosis or something to keep them tied to him
i think tbosbas movie would’ve been so cool if they had kept lucy gray faceless the whole time but im glad they didn’t bc i love seeing rachel zegler’s beautiful stunning gorgeousness
This hellsite is probably the only place I'll put up with armchair diagnoses because unlike most platforms it tends to be a pastime of people who are neurodiverse themselves, and isn't constantly used to excuse problematic behaviour in young men (looking at you facebook). I was a late diagnosis, and have worked in a number of roles supporting people with ASD, but wouldn't claim any level of expertise.
That said, it makes me a bit sad that 99% of the autistic headcannons I see on here are about characters that are wholesome and loveable. Neurodiverse people exist in every shade of grey, and it's infantilising to autistic people to assume we cannot lie, cheat, or commit crimes against humanity.
And while my initial reaction was 'Coriolanus Snow isn't undiagnosed with anything apart from the trauma of being a war orphan' having re-read tbosas recently, I'm actually not so sure.
All of his most problematic character traits are just as likely a result of adverse childhood experiences and being unable to trust the adults around him, but that doesn't mean they can't also be filed under 'things that are worryingly relatable to me as an autistic person even knowing who he's going to grow up to be'.
Many autistic kids have a strong desire for control because they're used to things being done for them for longer than they are for other children, or being forced into situations they find deeply uncomfortable without the ability to say no.
Narcissism is not an inherent autistic trait, but many boys in particular are told they're 'special' by well-meaning care-givers to try and counter the stigma of a diagnosis and end up taking it way too literally. If my grandmother had told me repeatedly when I was growing up that I'd be president one day I'd probably have thought 'yup, seems legit'.
But let's talk about the actual text, re-reading even the first few pages, we get:
'The shirt. The shirt. His mind could fixate on a problem like that - anything, really - and not let go. As if controlling one element of his world would keep him from ruin.'
'A tendency towards obsession was hardwired into his brain and would likely be his undoing if he couldn't learn to outsmart it.'
Feeling personally called out here, but yes, this could also be a symptom of trauma. However, there's also a strong disconnect between his ability to talk to others as though following a script, to charm and manipulate them when needed, and his reactions when that script is thrown out. When he meets Lucy Gray we get:
'Her flirtation left Coriolanus tongue-tied.'
'He meant it as a joke, but it fell flat. It was complicated enough, and it got more so by the minute.'
'Coriolanus felt something inside him unravel as he saw her helplessness and felt his own.'
and my personal favourite, when she kisses him for the first time:
'Rather than pulling back, he held her even tighter as the taste and touch of her made his head spin. So this was what people were talking about! This was what made them so crazy!'
I'm not suggesting waiting until you're 18 to get a proper first kiss and then being like 'ah, maybe I've been missing out the whole time, this whole smushing of food-holes together isn't actually that bad' is peak autism, but it's not a particularly neurotypical reaction either.
If there was one thing that both bothered me and that I found particularly clever about the narration in tbosas, it's that Suzanne Collins commits hard to the notion that her protagonist doesn't start out straight up evil and despotic, but nor is he a tabula rasa everyman-type either.
He has a particular way of thinking which gives him empathetic responses when he doesn't expect or want them, but also reinforces polarised or outright biased views to cope with a world that's lacking in the order and control that he craves. And I believe Suzanne Collins deliberately left the root cause of this open to interpretation when she writes 'For whatever reason, Snow has a very controlling personality.'
In many contexts, autistic traits can be indistinguishable from trauma, because if a society like the one I've grown up in (flawed, rife with wealth inequality and political division but still somewhat democratic) does not produce un-traumatised autistic folks, I dread to think what the Capitol does to them.
But while we're living through an era when two of the richest men on earth have ASD and also happen to be complete arseholes, it's time to stop pushing the narrative that autistic people cannot be supervillains because they're somehow too pure or innocent, and embrace the full spectrum of autistic headcannons.
