TEXT RP: The Cart (Beep/Kay/Haebor)
Beep/Kay/Haebor
For the Seyamoris Adventure with DM Sekaran
Episode 4.5 - You two are the first to wake up and are greeted by Brandor Gralbrek and three of his wolves. After initial freak outs, he tells you the story of how the ice elementals attacked his camp as well. After Negotiations with Magnus and Kay, They agreed to separate, with the group of 4 venturing into the depths of the old mine, and Kay taking beep up top and keeping logistics on the camp. As you're keeping track of the camp, you see a cart coming out of the camp, and a little ways away from the camp it crashes into something and topples. over. You decide to investigate. Ending aim: Someone leads you to the secret entrance to the mine. Or you find it.
"Hey Beep, you see that? Looks like a cart's crashed into something. Plus it just came outta that camp..." Kay pauses. "I'm gonna check it out." Kay makes her way into the cover of the treetops and inches closer, making sure not to make a sound, making sure to change her appearance to that of the guards she's seen who are apart of the camp.
(Do I see anything inside the cart since it fell over? Are there other guards coming to help? What do the driver and other cart people look like + how many?)
(You see a couple of supplies in the cart that are pretty banged up. Food supplies, some spices, and most interesting is ore. You gather it is for trading perhaps? One can only assume. It is far away from the camp and out of view especially with the forest around the bend that no one at the camp has seen it (as far as you know) or is coming to help. From your angle you can make out three individuals. Two sprawled out on the floor, one heavily bleeding. One more is a large burly man currently hunched over the injured person.)
"Beep. (Okay!)" Beep watches as Kay moves towards the cart, while keeping a lookout. Can Beep see what caused the cart to crash? Uneven ground?
(Neither of you were able to see what initially caused the cart to crash without investigating closer. It happened as it was turning the bend which was out of view, watching the camp and all.)
Beep remains hiding under the bushes.
(does the burly man look like he's part of the camp? and the other two injured people, do they look like civilians?)
"Beep," she whispers to her hidden comrade. "Keep watch, I'm gonna try and figure out what happened. If they find out I'm there, play by ear, if it looks like it's gonna get hairy, spring the big guy and take him out. Keep him alive though, we might be able to get some information from him. That's if the rest of the dudes aren't bandits." Kay waits a moment before exhaling. "Eyes, on he prize, pal." Kay makes her way as quietly as possible, skirting around to the direction of the camp to look like she -- currently in disguise as generic bandit person #08-- came from the bandit camp to "check out" the crash.
(I would like to be as close as possible to be able to figure out what happened, assess the situation. If I can, stay hidden the entire time until found out.)
“Beep beep. (Aye aye captain)” Beep beeps, focusing Beep’s eyes on the big man like Beep can burn a hole in his face, and moves as silently as possible near Kay (about 60ft) in the forest.
(As you approach you get a clearer look at the large burly man. He seems to be a towering figure. Easily over 7 ft tall. He's of darkish skin tone, something of a light grey. You see him having a messy beard white beard with an equally long white mane to match. He's shirtless on top, and doesn't seem... Human. In fact, looking closer... He seems to have... horns? Yes horns. The other two look like civilians from where you are(before the chat with beep)).
(is the big man helping or does he look like he's about to break some shit? Also do I hear him/them say anything of particular importance like names, places, sounds of anger or panic?)
(As you approach the area, slinking through, you circle around to the back when the bend starts and start walking towards the cart. Now that you have a better view of things, you can see the cart is mostly intact, although one of the wheels is in terrible condition. It would be safe to assume it ran over something perhaps... but what of the horses? That line of thought doesn't line up. As you approach and get closer to the cart you find that you're starting to hear a low burly voice talking, accompanied by very painful grunting.) "Are you alright? You look very hurt my friend. How can I help?" says the large burly man. grunts of pain (It is an odd sight to behold.)
(can I check the ground for tracks to see what the wheel could've run over? I'm also gonna double check extra to see if there are sounds from the camp. Cautioning that the cart may, or may not, have been tampered with at camp by the banditos -- this is if I don't see anything that could have ruined the wheel) Are the horses calm or freaked out? technically, they should still be stuck to the cart, poor horsies, probably tipped over with the cart :( How far away is beep from me? I'm checking to see whether or not the bandits set this trap to screw over the cartbois)
(The ground does seem to show a large crop in it that signals to you that something was run over there. No sounds from the camp. It's a little ways off. Probably upwards of 120+ft. Checking the wheel you don't see that it was tampered with in anyway, it seems like the wheel is organically damaged. One of the horses is knocked out on the ground, the other is struggling to get up and failing very badly because the reigns are made in such a way that both horses are bound to one reign. Basically, the other horse is lying down on the unconscious one. Initial inspections and investigations reveal that this definitely doesn't seem like a setup. Or at the very least, whoever did this did a good job not leaving any traces of traps around. No contraptions, no ropes, large mechanisms or out of place rocks. It's odd.)
"I will try to help you, my friend. But first, you must try to speak to me. I do not speak this grunting language."
(Burly man proceeds to start freeing the horse. He's gently caressing it to calm it down and soon has it free from the reigns. The way his large muscular hands move and the way you notice how he treats the animal, he seems almost a natural. Almost like he's talking with the horse. It looks like he's done this too many times that it's effortless. He gives it a good pat and begins to start stabilizing the man who's hurt on the ground.)
Kay, upon finding out all these little details, drops her bandit disguise and takes the form of her generic black haired woman garb and with a worried expression, goes towards the catastrophe. "What happened here? Is he okay?" Kay rushes and mock almost trips while trying to get to the injured man. Worried face still on.
(What's the calm man's reaction to 7footbighorn?)
(Both of the men seem to still be unconscious, though the one he is treating now does seem to be... awake? In pain is more like it, so a reaction is hard to gauge besides the occasional ugh agh ARGH. The big burly horned man is currently trying to tie a piece of cloth he ripped from the man's robe on his lower calf where there seems to be significant bleeding.)
"Oh hello lady." The accent seems super thick and it catches you off guard a little. "Everything is alright here. See here, only this man seems to be hurt. I checked and his friend is definitely still breathing." walks over to check "Yes. Still breathing. The horses are okay, but I think this man needs some help, isn't that right my friend?" The unconscious man groans. "It was a funny story really. They were riding out over the bend and didn't see the small rabbit that was hopping out onto the road. Luckily I saw that they weren't slowing down and I jumped in to cover the rabbit. You know. Like bridge. Yes like bridge. But I think The wheel didn't like me very much. Then the cart-" motions rotation with hands "Like this."
Kay internally rolls her eyes at how Burning Man Hippy the dude is. She's consolidating the fact that he got ran over by a cart but didn't get hurt. Who is this guy? "Do you need help with those guys?"
"Ah yes. I would it if you could help this man, my friend. He is in a bad place. I don't think he will survive a night out. Can you take him back to his friends? I think they have camp back from where track leads." He points to the direction you came from "I will start to repair the wheel that doesn't like me. I will make him like me." He walks past you to the tire you were investigating earlier. Upon closer inspection, you see that the two unconscious men while in commoner clothing, seem to sporting a familiar smoky pearled earing...
Beep slinks nearer to listen to Kay and the strange man's conversation. So far, nothing aggressive seems to be happening, so Beep waits for Kay's signal.
'Sneaky bandits.' Kay thought to herself. “Say, what’s your name, Rabbit hero?” Kay asked while scrutinising the bandit who’s awake, taking away his weapons if he has any and throws them into the bushes.
(What kind of wounds does the bandit have? If Kay sees that the cloth is doing its job, she's not going to do anything further to help stop the bleeding.)
(You've seen a fair bit of gore in your time; you reckon that a leg isn't supposed to bend that way and his leg shouldn't bend that way. It's broken, twisted around the ankle. As for the bleeding on the calf, it seems to be very well done, you can tell that the bleeding at the very least, has slowed to a trickle. There were a couple of weapons hidden in the man’s cloak and belt, daggers and the like, and you promptly chuck them into a bush.)
"My name is Haebor." He says sternly as he walks back to you, wooden wheel slung over his shoulder. He starts inspecting it and turning it every which way before setting it down in front of him and sitting down cross-legged. "What about you lady? What is your name and where do you hail from?"
Kay stands up to at least try and look the giant, Haebor, in the face, and fails. "Name's Kay. Nice to meet you, Haebs. Now, I've got an interesting thing to tell you, big guy. Stay here for a second, I need to grab my friend." Kay goes and finds beep and brings Beep to the two bandits sprawled on the ground. Then looks at Haebor. "Big guy, what were you doing in these parts of the woods again?"
"Beep." Beep looks at the two bandits, then at the big guy, then at Kay. "Beep beep?" (What are we doing to them?)
"Keep an eye on them, Beep. " Kay points towards the earrings on both of them."
Beep keeps an eye on them, and the other eye on the big man.
Haebor looks at the new bird creature that has now entered the fray and smiles eloquently. He proceeds to pat him on the head and rub under his beak with his large hands. "Aaahhhh. I don't usually come to these parts of the woods. I live a little further north. I came down here because an old friend had to call for a favour. His short man. He only likes his wolves. I think it's stupid. He should like all animals. It's was quite annoying to help him but Haebor don't turn back on friend and favour. Haebor had to clear rocks and it was not very nice time. But see there were these nice people. You would like them. This two men and little girl. The little girl was nice. She had nice smile. Ah but yes, dwarf friend just ask to clear old miners passage into the underground mines. It collapsed many moons ago. He's too small to clear and his dogs don't dig like Haebor digs." He starts to ramble on and on about clearing the way for the dwarf and how annoying he was as a person but that he's happy that he's his friend. All the while making some shabby repairs on the wheel.
"We know all of them, we're friends with Hannah and the ones you met. Big guy, I need to tell you something about these fuckers. They're not good people." Kay points to the earrings. "Most of the time, if they have this, they're assholes. They've been kidnapping little girls like Hannah."
"Also," she adds, somewhat excited. "I'm actually like you, big guy! This is a disguise, you wanna see my horns?"
*happy beeps* Beep casually sits Beep's butt down and let the two talk while still keeping an eye on the bandits. Beep helps big man to repair the wheels with some rope.
(is the cart now upright? or still on its side?)
(The cart and it's contents are very much on its side still)
"Aaahhh yes. The little one Hannah. You must forgive me, Haebor is not so hot with the names. And words. And numbers. Yes." He looks at the bandits and ponders for a moment at your remark. "Well, I don't like to think they are bad people until they do bad things. They didn't see Mr. Rabbit, so that one wasn't their fault. Maybe they aren't the ones kidnapping the girls? The little ones? Yes. They aren't. But again, Haebor is not the one who saw so I can only say what Haebor saw. These guys look like men of selling. Yes. But if you are friends of dwarf then you are friends of Haebor. I believe you my friend." At your mention of the disguise Haebor kind of just scratches his head and gives you a hand up as if to stop you. "It's okay. Haebor believes you, my friend. If you can change look you should change look. Life as a horned person is not very nice. Yes. Very bad. Nobody likes you much."
(The mcgyver work on the wheel seems to be working. It's not done yet, but beep you notice that Haebor is really good with wood working. He's fashioned a replacement rim piece and is working on replacing part of the outer wheel at the moment. He kind of gently puts you aside when you come to assist him and just pats your head again, as if you say its okay)
Kay removes her hand from her hat and shrugs, almost pouts. "We should try and fix the cart and take it with us before going to look for the rest. And maybe tie these guys up. " She looks at beep and whispers. "Beep, when the Igbay Ude-day not ooking-lay, ock-knay em-thay the fuck out-ay. Say, where'd you bring our friends to anyway, Big guy?
"Like Haebor said, they went into an old abandoned mine. I had to clear the way for them, but after that, I left. I don't know why they would go there anyway. No trees." Haebor looks up and has a confused look aimed at you when you talk weird to beep. "What are you doing here disguise lady?"
"Making sure my friends don't get attacked by these assholes." She nudges the one that's passed out with her foot. "We're trying to find those girls and make sure they're safe. Your buddy, Brandor, said they've been stealing his crates, too."
Beep looks at his work and finds it fascinating. Then when Kay whispers that, Beep nods. "Beep.(Knock them out when big guy not looking, okay)." And then waits for Beep's chance.
(is the wheel fixed and attached yet?)
(The wheel is fixed now, not attached)
"Hey, Big guy.Once the wheel is attached, you think you're strong enough to put it back the right way?"
"Aaahhhh. So you've met Brandor. Yes yes. His wolves are very nice. Too much tongue sometimes." He stands. "If they steal from him, they are not very nice people. Brandor is good man. Not good to steal from good man." He dusts himself off a little bit. "I've finished the wheel, it will last maybe half a days riding, nothing more, Haebor thinks." He walks over to the cart and looks back at Kay, then at the wheel. He stretches, and before you, you see this behemoth pull the cart from its side, into the upright position. His face is looking back at you as he grasps the axel of the front wheel with one hand, and the bottom of the cart. "Can you put it in disguise lady? And hurry yes? This is heavy. Many things inside.” He grunts. “Yes. Very heavy."
Beep looks at the cart, then at Kay. "Beep? (Got shinies?)"When Kay and Haebor are busy with the cart, Beep will give all the bandits a little whack in the head to knock them out.
Kay puts the wheel in and secures it, giving ample time for Beep to knock the guy out. it's a good thing she's done this a few times when on a mission with Robert -- The wheel thing, not the knocking people out thing. As soon as it's done she stands up and slaps Haebor on the butt. "Thanks, big guy. Now we have to probably take this with us and park it outside the mine so that the rest of the Bandits don't find it." Kay goes to the two bandits that are now passed out. "I can think of one thing we can do with them, but what do you think, Beep? also, we could totally check for shineys."
(Kay would like to frisk the guys to see if they have any valuables. And she takes the earrings for Hannah.)
As Haebor eases the cart down, you hear a creak and see the wheel deform, holding more of an oval than a circular shape. Haebor finally let's go when he thinks it can hold, and turns towards you two and the unconscious bodies. "Wait, he isn't speaking groan anymore. Is he alive my friend?" He looks at beep who was keeping watch. At the mention of taking the cart, Haebor just shrugs. "It is not Haebor's way to steal. You may steal the cart if you wish. Haebor will help because you friend. But Haebor doesn't like, yes?"
Beep puts Beep's hands in front of the unconscious bandit's nose. "Beep beep. (Yea, he's still breathing.)"
"I'm sorry. I don't speak... uhh, beep. Yes. Haebor does not speak beep like disguise lady. Is he alive?"
"Don't worry we ain't killers, they're alive, just looks like he's passed out again," Kay points to the bandit with a tourniquet. "I say we bring 'em with us in the cart and let Kane deal with 'em. Can't risk leaving 'em here, we'll get found out.""What say you, Big guy?"
Beep examines the fancy ring and the fancy necklace
Haebor looks at the two unconscious people before him. "Well that one needs help or he will die within the day. Maybe lose leg. I think we should give him back to his friends. Yes. Friends can help him no?" He has a look of sympathy on his face. You recall him trying to help them all day. He seems intent to get the injured man help. "Haebor cannot save people. He cannot help. So Haebor needs to get him to someone who can save him. He will die."
"We can't send him back to the rest of them, Big guy. Is there a town nearby?"While saying this, Kay takes inventory of everything in the cart.
(what's in the cart? is there a healing kit?)(i mean, they’re traders, takkanla takde first aid kit kot)
"We're pretty far away from a town. A lot of old towns and villages here are long abandoned." Haebor says, as he tends to the horses while you search.
(You find a lot of stuff that you reckon was for trade. A lot of mined minerals, some food, some ale, garbs and armor, trinkets and other accessories. No healers kit. No potions. Nothing magical to your eyes. Seems like regular trader things that wouldn't be given a second look through a security check.)
(What kind of minerals specifically?)(Also, Beep will like the trinkets and armour to sell for money)
"Haebor, the faster we get to our friends, the more likely it'll be this dude makes it. The other option is we let nature do her thing and complete the circle of life. " She pauses. "Personally, these guys are a part of a group that's been kidnapping girls. I don't feel obligated to take care of them," Kay grabs some ale and drinks it.
(If you're trying to do it secretly, roll sleight of hand and let me know. If you're not, Haebor knows you nicked things. Also your backpack won't be able to fit like, all the armour. There's not that much in this cart, but enough that an adventurer backpack won't let you take all of it. There are 11 pieces here altogether. Your backpack can probably only fit 3-4 after some squeezing.)
(Okay, checking all the stuff they have, what do they have?)
(The minerals are unrefined so it's tough to recognise. But there seem to be mostly jewellery stones in there. Nothing that makes armour you reckon. You some red, some blue, a little bit of green. Again not refined, so they're still inside the rock for the most part.)
(Kay is only interested in food and ale lol -- and getting out of here stat because they're still near camp and nowhere near team)
(Will not take armour since it's bulky, will try to swipe 2 minerals -- that's a 14)
Haebor pauses and thinks for a moment. "It's okay. I know you don't care for dying man. Haebor understands. He has done terrible things as you say. Haebor has idea and he will do idea. You let, yes? After we go to your friends with cart as you say."
(You nick 2 unrefined mineral stones without anyone noticing beep.)
"Sure, let's hear it," Kay says taking another swig of ale.
(is the ale in casks or on tap, or bottles, or how?")
(Crate with bottles inside)
Beep sits back down with curious round eyes looking at Haebor as he explains his idea.
Kay takes a bottle and refills her waterskin. Like all casual and shit, while waiting for Haebor to explain his plan.
He steps out and starts preparing a makeshift seatbelt, more like a strap, and picks up the injured man carefully. He straps him on stomach down onto the horse and secures him in place. Then he starts talking to the horse in light whispers. He nods a couple of times, and the horse gives a snort. He looks up at the two of you. "Horse say he can bring man back to camp. He says he will go slow because of hurt man. This is okay, yes?"
"Uhh... can you ask the horse to go AFTER we get a certain distance away?"
*whispers nods whispers* "Horse do this. Yes."
"Done." Kay holds a hand out to Haebor for a shake. "We should probably throw this guy in the back of the cart." She points to the other person who's still passed out,
Haebor looks at the extended hand. He raises an eyebrow and stares at it. Then he proceeds to lace his fingers between yours and is holding it palm to palm with the mirrored hand. He holds it there long enough to make it awkward for you. He just has this, 'yes this must be correct' face of satisfaction on his face.
Kay sees this awkwardness happening, and with fingers still entwined, she faces the side of the cart and boops her forehead on it. She turns back around and takes his hand off hers and shows him how to shake hands. "This is a handshake, big guy. It's a gesture of trust and friendship." She then gets on the front of the cart, motions to beep to get in. "We ready to go? It'll be a bit of a bumpy ride cos of the wonky shit wheel but beggars can't be choosers."
"Beep!" Beep jumps on the front of the cart and sits right beside Kay with a happy beaky smile.
"Actually, Haebor, you spoke to the horse. Can it speak back?"
Haebor takes the part of the reign where the other horse's mouth would've been secured in. "You don't speak horse? Yes, horse speak back."
"Oooooooh, Haebor, while we're on the way to our friends, can you ask if the horse knows about the young girls in the bandit camp?"
"You mean this one?" He points to the horse next to him. "Yes, no problem." He begins to start whispering to the horse and is mumbling to himself. "Yes yes. Two little girls. They were taken from a small town... a little outside of Vinheim. Yes. That's all horse knows. He don't know girls. They do not speak horse."
"So they're still there... Shit, Big guy. If we don't hurry, they might hurt the girls..." Kay gets partially stands up and grabs Haebor's face dramatically. "What if they're pretending to be merchants to kidnap more girls?!"
"Beep beep. (Kay has a point)"
"Would you like Haebor to help?" It sounds very distorted and muffled, but you catch what he says through his squeezed face.
Kay stands up, holding on to anything she can to look back towards the horse with a man strapped to its back, the visage slowly getting smaller and further away... She slumps back into the seat and grabs haebor's arm. "We have to save Satina and Acoco, Big man! Get em away from those bastards!"
"Yes yes. Little girls must be very afraid... Haebor will help. They should not be kidnapped. They should be free. Yes." He affirms himself. He continues to lead you along the path before he takes a turn into the forest and begins to lead you towards an unfamiliar path.
