twin sisters cristi jo and jessica made a splash last year with their ep glossolalia. i can't get enough of their gothic electronic pop and have had it on repeat. this track is taken from their upcoming debut lp house of baasa, which will be realased april 4 on kanine records. download the "icbys" single on itunes. by the way, "icbys" stands for "i can believe you said".

parakeet - tomorrow

yuck bassit mariko doi's side project, parakeet, sounds like what might you expect - great 90s grunge rock but with a harder, heavier edge. doi handles the lead vocals and bass while james llewellyn thomas rules the drums. their debut single "tomorrow" will be self-released on a limited run of 500 as a 7" on march 5, available through parakeet and yuck's webstores. download the track from their bandcamp.

L.A.-based duo alex jacob & spencer frazen made the blogosphere rounds late last year for their washed out, bedroom pop treatment of soul music. this track and their earlier singles "breaking a heart" and "avenue" make me hope for a soon-to-be full-length.

frankie rose - night swim

80s pop music is not necessarily my cup of tea. the "sound" is often much too basic and naive. but this...this i like. i can't put my finger on it exactly. perhaps it's because frankie strolls the darker, seedier streets of pop without letting herself stumble into cliché. her new album, interstellar, is out february 21st on slumberland records.
