I know some people are going to be really mad about this, but it’s a subject we all need to talk about people.

I’m getting really sick of people constantly sending complaints and even death threats to licensed harlequin enclosures. As you all know all harlequins are a sub-species of wild jesters. Much like the mime they weren’t bred to be domesticated, but  you have to understand that the only reason harlequins are sent to enclosures is because the are likely to be poached for their much sought after caps and masques. 

It’s not cruel to keep them in enclosures because they are fed on the right diet and they build their tents themselves (as custom for wild madcap breeds) with provided tools and supplies. 

And you might think that it’s unfair to show them off like that, but even wild harlequins like to perform for humans, and will sometimes come into more populated areas to do so. So having people pay to come into the park not only keeps the harlequin sanctuary running, but also ensures the harlequins enjoy their time there, performing safely behind their barriers for the crowed. 

This is a process that ensures the harlequins will live long happy lives, and who knows…maybe we’ll get to see a rise in their numbers in the next decade or so, and we can work on reintegrating them back into the wild.
