Crying about the friends of the boys back home.

Do you think Art’s church prayed for him when he left? Hanks friends telling him to wish for naked ladies, sending him off with cheers. Rays classmates hyping him up, giving him tips, sharing snacks, whispering about whether he’ll make it too the end. Richard’s book club giving him plot ideas or memorization techniques, promising him that they’ll edit it for him once he finishes. Curley telling his friends and they all cheer together and are already daydreaming their plans for when he gets back.

All of them had to watch their friends die on TV, saw all the sides of them they’ve never witnessed. Had to watch the boy that asked for help with algebra fall to his knees with a hole in his skull. It’s worse when their friends are just as naive, when they really believed there was a chance and next time they tune in all they hear are the screams. (What if you miss it? What if they’re laughing one day and gone the next? Think of all the boys on that hill on that night, who’s loved ones missed their last moments)

1. talk about having a plan the whole time while having no plan. he seems like the type of guy who kinda just fucks around through life and so when he thought of something like 10 minutes before he did it he had to let everyone know that he has a big plan

3.take his stupid pictures it's giving "drunk me would think this is so aesthetic" but like "me going insane from walking would find this so aesthetic"

i am sooo interested in Billy Stebbins it’s like. here’s this guy he’s tall he’s buff he’s blonde he has blue eyes he clearly does NOT want to get to know you. he’s the archetype, this is the exact person the people in charge WANT to win. you don’t know it yet but he’s the least enviable nepotism baby you’ve ever heard of. he’s antagonizing our main character for seemingly no real reason. everything is set up for us to Not Like This Guy.

and then he gets sick. and he realizes that he’s going to die and that one guy who pissed him off so bad seems like the guy who’s gonna outlast him because of a cruel trick of fate. and the walls come down and he says something genuine. he’s the rabbit and he’s flesh and blood and this BOY is coming to terms with his humanity and mortality. and you’re like. fuuuuuuuuuuuck. it’s not fair none of it is fair and it was never meant to be.

Stebbins brainrot so bad I spent my whole rewatch watching his posture and gait.

He's stood tall and upright. Not slouching. Walking in step. Route marching, checking his watch to keep pace.

Even when he's sick he almost never hunches, his spine is straight and he's looking forwards, even as hes walking bow legged and limping and covered in his own snot and drool and tears he's stood tall, he doesn't falter. It's almost inhuman.

But it is very human of him to act this way. The major is there, his father is there he wants to looks tough. Strong. Like a soldier.

He wants to look like a winner.
