It wasn’t until the throbbing pain started to vanish he noticed his face was wet. He just collapses against her, clinging to his sister, to the only person that he ever truly felt safe with. She was the only one that understood him, didn’t try to fix him or change him, she loved him.
Rubbing his back gently, she moves his head a little to wipe away any tears on his face, a soft hum escaping from her throat, a song that she used to sing to make him feel better when their parents got to them. She would do anything for her brother. “I’m so sorry.” Rosie whispers with a frown.
He shakes his head at her apology, she was the only person in the world that never owed her an apology. He just twisted his fingers in her shirt as he held onto her. The stress and anxiety of the last few weeks bubbled up and he couldn’t stop the hiccuping sobs. “Dad did it”, he whispers as she wipes his tears. Caleb was tired, exhausted from fighting, he just leaned his head against her shoulder and cried.
