Calgary Flames 2016 Draft Picks
6. LW Matthew Tkachuk, 6'2’’,188lbs, London (OHL) Tkachuk is almost a mirror image of his father (Keith Tkachuk) Matthew is a student of the game and has been in NHL locker rooms since he could walk. He is one of those players with such a passion for the game that he loves. He plays a heavy, gritty, hard hitting style of play. On of the most dangerous players in the slot in this draft. Will constantly go to the hard areas with no complaints at all. NHL scouts compare him to Anaheim Ducks Allstar Corey Perry. Tkachuk is one of those players people love to have on their team but hate to play against because of how hard he plays you and his attitude comes into play as well. Does not shy away from fighting to defend a team mate or himself. Projected to be a top 6 goal scoring power forward.
54. G Tyler Parsons, 6'1’’, 185lbs, London (OHL) Tyler is a highly underrated speedy, athletic goaltender who shows it by making timely saves. He builds his game around making the initial save. Went from having poor rebound control at the start of the season to solid rebound control. Pushes laterally across the crease extremely fast. The biggest thing he needs to work on is absorbing his rebounds because he too often gets himself in trouble because of a big juicy rebound that he gives up.
56.F Dillon Dube, 5'10’’, 175lbs, Kelowna (WHL) Dillon is somewhat of a hometown boy as he hails from Cochrane, Alberta. Was 3rd in team scoring with 26G, 40A for 66pts in 65 regular season games. Had 5G, 2A for 7pts in 18 Playoff games. Real skilled shooter and a quick player from the dots inward. Possesses special offensive talent, gives and receives passes very well. Gets himself into trouble when matching up against bigger competition. Projects to be a speedy 2nd/3rd liner who chips in offensively. NHL comparison? Carl Hagelin.
66.D Adam Fox, 5'10’’, 185lbs, US Under 18 Team. Adam set a single season record in the USNDPT for most points by a defenseman is a single season with 59pts in 64 games. Considered to be a really smart skilled guy. Next season he will heading to Harvard to work on a degree and hockey. Projects to be a top 4 puck moving defenseman who shows great QB ability. NHL Comparison? Stephane Robidas.
96.F Linus Lindstrom, 5'11’’, 164lbs, Skelleftea (SHL) Linus led the Skelleftea J20 squad in scoring with 14G, 30A in the regular season and put up 5G, 5A in 6 playoff games. He is the captain of the J2o squad showing his leadership ability and can use that influence to fire up his team when they are in the dumps. Projects to be a 2nd/3rd line north, South forward.
126.F Mitchell Mattson, 6'4’’, 190lbs, Bloomington (USHL) Split time between the USHL and the USHS. In 25 USHS games he scored 17G, 29A for 46pts. He is a hulking, skilled power forward who will need plenty of time to develope, meaning he is a definite project player. Projected to be a middle six secondary scoring option.
156.F Eetu Tuulola, 6'2’’, 227lbs, HPK Hameenlinna (SM-LIIGA) Big power forward who like to score, is always going to the net and the dirty areas. Plays a big, strong, heavy game in which he knows he needs to improve his skating but apart from that, he is a powerful skater. Projects to be a 3rd line power winger. He compares his style of play to that of Milan Lucic, he considers him self a Power Forward with a nasty side.
166.F Matthew Phillips, 5'6’’, 137lbs, Victoria (WHL) WHL rookie of the year; had 37G and 76pts in 72 games this past season. A tiny but intelligent play maker with elite offensive capability. Matthew is essentially Johnny Gaudreau 3.0 (since Mangiapane is 2.0) Matthew is so small he makes Johnny look like a giant. Projects to be an ultra skilled 2nd line scorer. NHL comparison? Mats Zuccarello/Cam Atkinson.
186.D Stefan Falkovsky, 6'7’’, 224lbs, Ottawa 67s (OHL) There isint much of a profile on Stefan but you can tell just from his height and weight that his a big defender who actually has decent skating for a guy of his size. Excels at forcing forward to the outside and eventually rubbing them out of the play.
