She went insane trying to protect her children, the gems, from Cipher.
She is cruel and rash and highly reactive. She tries to hurt people before they hurt her.
With her children she is protective and tries her best to be still and loving, although she may falter at times.
She is a product of her situation of being a henchmaniac of Cipher's while she had these children.
They're all hers, she's the only parent.
She and her children have died dozens of times.
The Devil restarts the timeline and tries to survive with them all again and again, effectively trapping herself and her children in a timeloop.
The children love their mama and trust her.
The Gems were forced to evolve from the harsh conditions and the constant reincarnations.
They had gone through things ranging from not having enough food to Cipher finding out about them and toying with them until they died one by one.
Azurite, the one with the red heart, tends to be the first to die. She is the most colorful and playful one, mistaking Cipher as a friend.
In the "best" timeline, Azurite is the only Gem to pass away. This, of course, isn't good enough for The Devil but The Axolotl tries to convince her to not sacrifice what goodness she was able to promise her other children.
The Devil met The Axolotl after the Time Police raided the nightmare realm and Time Baby killed her in retaliation after learning she had eaten and "killed" the only other Time Titan left before Time Baby.
The Oracle prayed to Xolotl because the children didn't have their mother and The Oracle needed guidance.
Xolotl took them in along with The Devil's soul to try and help rehabilitate them in the Theraprism.
The Devil is a very intense patient, using her ability to see timelines against anyone that gets close. She uses peoples biggest shames, secrets and griefs agaisnt them as a defense mechanism.

Xolotl learned that she is only calm when she is around her children. They take this opportunity to try and get closer to her and help her from the angle of a friend and second caretaker of The Gems.

Theyre all based on different kinds of sea angels.
This is how the dynamic tended to be like between Cipher and Tillie when she was a henchmaniac. He named her "The Devil" and liked to ragebait and stress her.
The only reason he wouldn't kill her is because her rage was too entertaining.
They all died tragic deaths and now they live together in their afterlife, feeding off of eachother's misery. No being beyond the Tillie across all timelines are allowed in this afterlife. The Wary mercilessly devour every intruder.
She walked the seabed, allowed her body to rust and decay, for she preferred death over a life without her children.
The little sea angels are the spirits of her children visiting the grave of their mama, known in this doomed timeline as The Devil.
The Devil is from a timeline where Tillie had 6 little sea angel children while she was still a henchmaniac. Bill hurt her children in an act of manipulation, trying to get her to tell him all about the timelines she could see, which would've help him dominate the world.
The Devil has re-tried the same timeline over and over to try and save all of her children. The suffering and stress had made her a cruel woman, reserving her soft side only for her children.
Details about my new AxoBill AU where the Axolotl tricked Bill into a deal.
This Xolotl lost everything, but had decided to forgive themself and heal, wanting to be the best god of the new universe they could be.
Unlike in Divine Timing AU, this Axolotl keeps their heart, therefore, Bill Cipher never devours it or becomes said heart.
Everything that happened in Gravity Falls is canon for Bill.
Bill is put in the theraprism
Bill's treatment consists in a simulation where everything goes extremely wrong for him (reliving the death of his people and his biggest failures over and over again.)
And then everything goes exactly like he wants (weirdmaggedon, world domination, everything he's ever wanted and more) until he's extremely, painfully bored because it all just becomes a reflection of himself with no excitement.
It takes a simulated eternity, but he doesn't leave it until he's so incredibly bored he just accepts the therapy.
Xol is like "you win"
They are his therapist for a long while and it's the most exciting thing that happens to Bill in forever
They both get the hots for one another.
Xolotl decides to quit being his therapist because they want him so badly.
They fuck and The Axolotl uses this moment of passion to swear their love to Bill just as Bill swears his while they hold hands, triggering a handshake deal.
Bill LOVES this because he's fucked up and Xolotl loves that about him so they're both insane in their own ways.
Bill is like "i could betray you anytime, baby 🥰"
And Axo is like "🫦 oh noo~~"
But they can't hurt eachother because the deal is that they must love eachother purely.
Bill becomes a decent dude, if still fucked up. Would give advice in his own fucked up way and enjoy insane stuff regardless, but it is messured by Axo and his own strange amount of therapy.
Sometimes they destroy planets together, as long as it is righteous.
