Album Review - 3.7/5 Lucifers Dreams - A tune Liam regarded as being lying around unfinished for a while. It feels like a classic opening Courteeners banging album tune, sets a great tone to the start of the album. Will be a fan favourite live. Kitchen - I’m not sure what happened here, it feels as though the ideology of the song is similar to Here Come The Young men regarding partying all night. Don’t think I’ll ever get into the music and the lyrics are some of the worst. Rarely feel this on a Courteeners album but, skip. Disjointed and trying to hard to be outside the box. No One Will Ever Replace Us - “ Trying to find a gap through the crowds with your hand in mine running under the clouds“ The first time I heard that line I was hooked on this song from then on in. Described by Liam as the feeling of meeting someone at a festival and it being you and them against the world. Chorus could resonate as a love letter to the fans. Although we never doubted it. De La Salle - Have to be honest when I first this, I wasn’t so sure. But good things come to those who wait and it’s grown into a tune. Feel like that’s a real aspect that runs throughout the album. This song really shows Liam’s ever prominent and impressive vocals Tip Toes- Initial listening, “ You are, you are on your tip toes” What’s he on about? Reading the lyrics back and listening to the song it’s absolutely golden and it all maps out. Another song seemingly born out of Liam’s time working at the Fred Perry store. A store that’s already helped to write so many bangers. A jingle jangle song reminiscent of Bide Your Time. Sexual orientations are a cleverly hidden message “ Making plans in our heads, creating history in your bed” Not For Tomorrow - A great heavy banging riff that drives right throughout the song. Heavy in certain aspects for the usual guitar sound of Courteeners. Unlike Kitchen this is something a little out of the box that works. Possibly a future album direction. Finest Hour - Slow beautiful ballad containing classic Fray lines “I’m sick of giving my favourite rhymes to the girls who just leave town” The long lost cousin of Marquee? It’s a fact. The Dilettante - Dilettante, ‘someone with a basic interest of arts’. A song brimming with love and escapism. References to Saint Martin, Paris, Bourgeoisie. Those subtle references to the song title and ideology of the artistic feel is what makes the song. He’s fell for a posh French lady it would seem. Coming of age moment as a songwriter. Modern Love - “We found solace at the Star and Garter” A song first born in the world of fellow mancunian band Hurts. Not being used it was taken by Liam and turned into what surely should be the leading single from the album. Can hear parts of Blondie running through it’s veins. Will guarantee to take off when played on the forthcoming tour. The Most Important - If Finest Hour was the long lost cousin of Marquee. Then this song feels as though it was written with a very Falcon esque feeling in mind. Reminiscent of Cameo Brooch & Last Of The Ladies. “ You may not know it cause I don’t always show it.. But you are the most important thing in my life” The 17th - “Because we’re having such a good time” Liam described the focal point of the band writing this album was to have a good time and enjoy it. This song highly glows of that. A slow burning banger that gets better and better upon every lesson. Showing Liam’s great vocal presence and lyrical talent. A great ending to an album and similar to Most Important in that it’s a possible different musical direction for a new album
Looking forward to next album hope it'll come soon
