Of Peacocks and Marketplaces | Axel & Calliope
Gaping a bit at her question, Axel scrambled to come up with a response that wouldn’t lead to him falling over his tail and end up bruising his ego. Again. “Well yeah of course. I mean if you practise a lot at something wouldn’t you wanna show people?” Sort of like gratification that the time spent into practising and perfecting if had paid off.
At her answer to his question about meeting the Queen, Axel fell into thought. The Royal Guard was well known for being full of Earth elementals whom which had a reputation for being rather stubborn and opinionated, something Axel would rather not have to go against. He highly doubted that they would believe his claims of being a dragon and he had no wish to reveal his true form to them.
“I suppose if I met her I’d….” Axel trailed off, having never given much thought to the topic itself. He’d always been so focused on actually meeting the lady, that he hadn’t thought about what he would do if he met her. “I guess I’d tell her that I support her and that not all of the rest of my kind oppose her,” that much was true at least. He just wasn’t sure of how much of the dragon population actually supported the ruler.
"I suppose you wouldn't want your efforts to go to waste, no." At the very least, he was right about that much. Shifting her weight to the balls of her feet and then her toes again, Calliope lifted her gaze to the dragon as he spoke. He was such a peculiar figure-- it made her wonder how it was that such a wondrous creature became a human being. Although she'd seen the transformation once before, it was difficult to replicate the memory, even if she could see into his.
It was obvious that he was deep in thought, and Calliope decided to leave him to it. Quietly, she nodded as Axel vocalized the request that tried to run through his mind. She'd come to learn that thought processes were a strange thing in each and every species; some were quick to come up with a response, others had to think. The variety was something to ponder, she simply hadn't had the time to do so. Taking it upon herself to consider his, the Vila blinked in reply. "I see." One thing that had always been tough for her was observing the watching imagination as it came to life. She may have been capable of watching memories and connecting their emotional ties, but as the creative mind worked, things often got a little blurry.
Perhaps that was because she was still 'young' and developing her abilities but even as she attempted to focus, Calliope felt a light strain at the back of her skull. Narrowing her eyes in a rushed effort to get rid of it, she tried for a smile and folded her hands behind her waist and took a step to the side. "I'm sure she would appreciate it." Well, it was true, wasn't it? Wouldn't any ruler enjoy having such an ancient creature's approval? Whether or not it was one of the younger ones, Axel's kind disposition was something that Calliope enjoyed more often than not. He may have been childish, but that much was quite easy to set aside. "Perhaps I could assist you in some way? In passing along the message, I mean."
