My kid wants us to watch Riverdale as a family. I’m not too thrilled about this. Riverdale was never a show I cared to watch, but apparently, she’s determined to watch this.

Days of hope and panic

My boss found out this morning that she will indeed be getting a kidney transplant. She was getting pretty desperate. None of her family members were a match, and her condition was getting worse. While it was unfortunate someone had to die for it to happen, it’s a blessing for a person that needs it. Here’s to hoping her surgery goes well today.

Plus, tomorrow, I will defend my dissertation proposal. YIKES, PANIC MODE! If I pass this defense, that means I get to finally conduct my research, and it’s pretty much a done deal that I’ll finish my doctorate. It’s been such a long road, but I’m SO freaked out. It doesn’t help that one of my committee members keeps telling me I have too much info on some of my slides. I keep cutting it down and it’s still too much. Dude, should I just give you a blank slide? Would that be better? OMG!

My daughter was the victim of cyberbullying.

A group of three kids that she knew from a teen organization had this chat group set up in a game. Two of the kids, my kid knew really well and had been friends with for about a year, even spent the night several times at one of the kid’s house. She had a little bit of a falling out with these two around a month ago and has spent little to no time on the game or in the chat spaces where they would go since. But when a third kid joined up with the other two online, my child started to get blamed for “harassing and stalking” the original two. The latest incident was this new, third kid threatening to “out” my kid with fake screenshots in their social group. I know my kid didn’t do it. We have a timeline accounting for her location and activity when the supposed screenshots were sent.

Yes, we’ve approached the parents, and we weren’t believed. We’re even considering going to the police because the kid that threatened to “out” my child did ultimately do it in an attempt to shun her from her social group.

The worst part of all of this...my kid’s group are all other LGBTQ+ kids. I never thought I had to worry about my child not being safe around other LGBTQ kids, but obviously, I was wrong. We’re just fortunate that she talks to us and tells us what’s going on. We’re also fortunate that she’s not in a precarious situation like being prone to suicide or cutting. I always knew I would have to protect my kid from bullies eventually. I just didn’t know they’d come from inside our own community.
